  1. I think you will find Afghanistan quieter
  2. the only thing that has changed here in Phuket in the last 20+ years the roads have got wider and bigger and the invitation to go faster, so i guess speed does kill. surely there is a need for speed cameras, i can hear in the night big bikes using it as a race track down here in Rawai, That has always made me laugh when the police stop you at their road blocks, no helmet, no license fine you and let you ride off, the bike should be taken off them, the rental shops should be taken a look at, I recently spoke with a farang tourist who had rented a car without a license, not a very smart move by the rental company,
  3. I recently had my daughter and her husband, baby and his parents here for holiday and we eat out for 2 weeks in Phuket and i have to say i was totally disappointed about most of the places we went to, mostly around Kata and Karon thats where they were staying, Most of these places are geared up for tourist first i noticed was the small portions they wouldn't dare serve that to Thai's, the only decent places were the farang owned places, We went to a well known restaurant here, one ordered a burger it wasn't even cooked, There is a Turkish place in Karon was pretty decent or as good as it gets when you have Burmese working in the kitchen My daughter wanted to order some pizzas one night at the hotel they wasn't even cooked. I can imagine if tourist find a couple of places they like they will feel safe
  4. were i live it's well know where the gambling dens are and i have known a few Thai women addicted to cards, and lost a lot of money, two that come to mind both had farang husbands in the end the only way out was to get out, the one farang done one back to Australia and the other one back to England never to be seen again, one of the poo ying is still here but living in a room after living in a nice 3 bed pool villa, the farang managed to sell that, the other one her husband just bought a brand new truck and he must have put it in her name within a few months she sold it or it was taken off her to cover gambling debts, I was told she would go around renting motorbikes and then losing them to gambling, I think she had to get out of the area she owed that much money, It's not just women I knew a Thai guy who used to buy 10 to 15k baht a month on the lottery and play cards My wifes mother died and left the kids with a load of debt, thankfully the wife doesn't gamble.

  14. The Valentinos was an American family R&B group from Cleveland, Ohio, best known for launching the careers of brothers Bobby Womack and Cecil Womack. Bobby went on to find greater fame as a solo artist while Cecil became successful as a member of the husband and wife duo of Womack & Womack with Linda Cooke. The group was well known for R&B hits such as the original versions of "Lookin' for a Love", notably covered by the J. Geils Band and later a solo hit for Bobby Womack, and "It's All Over Now", covered by the Rolling Stones.
  15. I was around them days in the early 60's soul and Motown I would say they was more popular in the UK than they ever were in America, one of the main venues for them was in Manchester at the Twisted Wheel, 1964 i saw Stevie Wonder playing in Manchester then known as "Little Stevie Wonder" Marvin Gaye we all remember him "Heard it through the Grapevine" that first got played on a demo disc in a night club in Coventry by a DJ i used to know, true story that demo disc could have ended up in the bin,
