  1. Unless you have lifetime driving licenses (both car and m/cycle), but unfortunately no longer available. Lifetime licenses stopped more than 30 years ago. My licenses were issued at Rayong, process almost completed, suddenly the officer said, in good English 'will you live in Thailand for a long time?'I responded 'Yes', he continued 'do you want lifetime licenses?' I didn't know they even existed. I quickly responded 'yes please', 10 minutes later I walked out with a car and a m/cycle lifetime licenses.
  2. Searching for negatives... Perhaps the local 7/11 management (CP the franchise holder for Thailand), or perhaps the parent company / the ultimate owner of the brand, in Japan, which is quite active to explore any activity which might cause an issue and fix it by instructing the local franchise holder to take a specific action have already realized this could be an issue and have taken. And keep in mind that the brand owner (in Japan) have every right to insist and they do insist that franchise holders follow master instructions promptly. CP in Thailand have way too much to lose by failing to follow the rules / regulations/ dictates specified in the franchise agreement. Another point, if the franchise was withdrawn from CP there's several other local Thai operators who could / would apply instantly to take over the franchise and be well capable of success. On the other side of the coin it's well known that the 7/11 brand owner in Japan do continuous monitoring of franchise holders regarding : 1). revenues etc., (brand owner gets %) and 2). totally following the very detailed rules in the franchise document, have arrangements in place to very quickly replace a franchise holder (small or big) if needed. Like similar brand owners they have regional teams across the world to check everything. It's very possible the Thai lady / man just before you in the queue at the cashier point is actually a plainclothes 'secret shopper' who goes outside and on a tablet streamed to Tokyo instantly completed a very comprehensive survey. Also possible the secret shopper will cause an accident to happen and get abusive or whatever and report the response to Tokyo.
  3. I'm not aware that this is a regular problem. Have other members seen this before? Who creates the 'ticket' that is slipped into the clear plastic holder on the shelf? At 7/11 it's always printed by a machine (not hand written), so I'm guessing the data to create the small ticket (with barcode and price) for the shelf comes from a main database (the 7/11 franchise for Thailand is held by CP, their systems are very modern and very sophisticated). I'm guessing that after the cashier has scanned the barcode on the actual product presented by the customer at the cashier point, the price then goes into the cash register for the creation of a total to be paid by the customer. In other words the data for each item for building a total price comes from the main database, the same database used to create the small ticket shown on the shelf. How can they be different?
  4. I have used used Samsung Android phones forever. I have no difficulty to get into Mygov, the 'code' appears quickly in my messages on my Samsun phone, entered on my notebook, sign in complete.
  5. I wonder how many Thai folks cannot work from home? e.g. staff at 7/11, supermarkets, hypermarkets, many government offices which require citizens to come to the office to do many transactions, and more ...
  6. ABOVE: "Surely forcing them to remain part of socialist Denmark, against their will, would be more "Putin" like?" Strange comment: a google search says that the danes are quite happy with their lot and in fact like the socialist aspects of the way things work. And who said any change would be against their will?
  7. All pointing to the reality of Thai family life where most parents don't talk a lot to their kids. E.g. My Thai son often brought 1 or 4 uni buddies home to our very large condo in Bkk to do team case studies. If I was home my son (rugby player, perfect English) would come immediately to me and give me a kiss on he cheek, as he had done all his life with me and his Thai mother. Often I noticed the other uni boys seeing me son kiss me on the cheek and a bit surprised. Then my son would chat to me for 15 minutes while we made a big plunger of coffee for all. Many times my son and his buddies had planned an all day session / 4 hr session etc., so i would go outside and buy a lot of fresh noodle dishes and more, bring it home and put all the bowls on the big table where they are working. Several times I overheard one of son's uni buddies whisper to my son "xxxx do you talk to your father?' He would respond 'yes of course!' Also often enough they weren't sure which way to go in a case study. My son would sometimes say 'Dad, please sit down and give us some advice. he would explain the case study / the point at hand in English, doing Thai translation as he proceeded. I would respond with some options and giving reasons for each option. My son had ben to the homes of several of his class / team buddies and had mentioned to me. 'My friends are shocked that we (son and me) talk and discuss, at their homes they give a polite greeting to their fathers but nothing more'. The point, They don't learn right / wrong, etc., at home.
  8. Adoption as a single parent (M or F) is also legal in Thailand, has been all along.
  9. Do you still have to register and wait for about 24 hrs before you can access the free wifi?
  10. Did you ask about membership?
  11. OK, but I have a Thai son, married and 4 kids. So I feel obliged to watch what's happening and if needed a couple of time I've mentioned my worries to my Thai son. Each time I quickly discovered my son concerned about the same item(s).
  12. Also unfortunately in the picture, the policeman who was killed was a no-name / long-time / low ranker. Sad.
  13. My Thai will bequeaths everything to my Thai son. For several decades whenever we opened a new bank savings account: - it was with the same bank and was specifically set up as: - a joint savings - either party can sign.
  14. You think that will force head men to take action? Think again, the big players would make mince meat of any head man who tried to get tough. This is LOS.
  15. Wrong country. Baht doesn't smell of curry.
  16. And will anybody listen / act? Not holding my breath, because the farmers have strong support from the giant food manufacturing companies etc., who can easily override / ignore Anutin.
  17. Sorry I can't answer whether you can obtain an Exit / Re-entry stamps (in both books) at Pattaya immigration. For the last 10 years I got the stamps at Chiang Mai Immigration. Before that it was all done by an agent used by my employer. Pure guess but I can't see any reason why it couldn't be done at Jomtien Immigration. Do they give clear answers on the phone? (I asked the question in that manner because at Chiang Mai Immigration (a big Immigration office), there's a small team, about 2 of 3 staff who only handle PR matters incl. gaining Exit / Re-entry stamps, but asked about this at the main walk-in counter and they will very likely say 'not at this office, have to go to Bkk. I had this situation one time, but luckily one of the dedicated PR team noticed me and quickly came out of the office area and greeted me and immediately took me to her area. The boy at the walk in desk objected saying NO NO, Bangkok only. The PR team leader pulled him aside, sat him down and gave him a polite education about the subject).
  18. So there is a team meeting every day / every hour to decide the next strategy etc? You really think that can work, product still has to be scanned at the cash register. You need a very simple hobby, back in your home country
  19. How does that work? The shelf has a ticket clearly showing the price, and then the product is scanned by the barcode reader...
  20. Mine is signed and witnessed with date and time at the top and bottom of every page. Ys it can be in a sealed envelope and registered and stored at the local tessaban office and you should have a receipt. But storing at the tessaban is not compulsory. The tessaban office and some local amphur offices will claim they can assist you to write the will but beware of this, these folks are not lawyers and are not trained. QUOTE FROM ABOVE: "I am a single farung and my will leaves everything to another single farung, which at first, the clerk said could not be done. Then she asked some other clerks and they said ok." NOTE WELL: The staff at such offices who 'handle wills are not layers and have no legal or other training in regard to wills.
  21. Do some research on this. First read my post immediately above.
  22. ".... business/ profits." Interesting, his family own SC Asset, a very big housing development company.
  23. Google says: "TM 13 is the application form for a Thai Certificate of Residence, and TM 22 is the application form for a Non-Quota Immigrant Visa" Did you get a letter indicating that your PR (Lifetime Residence) has been approved? Did you Get a letter indicating that your Thai PR had been approved? Did you take that letter to an appropriate gov't office (often a bigger amphur office but other offices can also issue the book) to get issued with your dark blue Certificate of Residence book? Also they should record your name and your Thai ID number in the Tabien Baan book for the place where you reside. Twenty seven years ago I did all of the above at the Pattaya city Hall. A long time ago so I don't know if they still do it. The dark blue Certificate of Residence book is your official proof that you hold lifetime PR for Thailand. This book is your official document to prove you are a lifetime Permanent Resident of Thailand. It's your document for life. The Certificate of Residence does NOT show an expiry date because it's for lifetime. It does not need annual REVIEW OR CHECK. Before you depart Thailand for a holiday or for meeting etc., you must go to an immigration office* and get an Exit and Re-entry stamp in your PR book and your passport. * You might read that foreigners can get the Exit / Re-entry stamps at the airport after you check in. That's true for some other types of visas but NOT TRUE for PR holders. PR holders must get these stamps before travel at an immigration office. Getting the Exit / Re-entry stamps in both books does not involve any recheck or review of your PR status, it's a no pain administrative process. On departure from Thailand you must present both books (Certificate of Residence book and your passport) at the immigration desk and they will add another stamp (usually close to the the Exit / Re-entry stamps placed in both books at an immigration office.) to indicate that the Exit / Re-entry stamp issued at the immigration office has now been used for the departure leg of your immediate travels. CRITICAL: If you don't follow these steps correctly there is a risk that you could lose your PR status. If you do lose your PR status there is no 'quick fix' and you will need to start again to apply for PR. CRITICAL: You must get the Exit / Re-entry stamp in both books (Cert. of Residency book and passport) before going to the airport. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Another AN member can answer your question better than I can about visa. I got PR 27 years ago so I'm not up to date about PR and visas. Good luck.
  24. I got PR 27 years ago ago I'm out of date about form numbers. What is TM 13 and TM 22? Then maybe you'll get some responses.
