I don't know the answer to that. But how about this, would you like to live without GPS? (Although admittedly many Bangkok taxi drivers live without GPS.)

Couple Killed Instantly as Big Bike Slams into Lorry in Bangkok

Certainly a failure on the part of the motorcycle rider isn't it? He struck the truck. -

27 amendments including the first 10 which were approved immediately. So 17 over the life of the nation, hardly constantly. If you look into the procedure for amending you will see that it is in fact a big deal and not easily done. More difficult now with 50 states than it was with fewer states.

" corruption and theft of trillions of tax payers money, " Didn't they say "gazillions"? I know Musk said that Social Security was the biggest corruption in history but they have not documented significant corruption in SSA. They talk a lot about fraud and corruption but just seem to be attacking agencies based on getting culture wars politcal headlines. Do "use" ever follow up on their claims of large amounts of corruption?

Russell Brand criminally charged with rape...

Tragic what happened to Andrew Malkinson. Hopefully Brand will have competent legal representation and will get a fair trial. -
Musically - Is this as good as it gets?

I don't care for Frank Sinatra's singing, just doesn't appeal to me. But I am not foolish enough to denigrate one of the most popular singers of all time. We all have our likes and dislikes, some things are better left unsaid. -
Drunk Foreign Woman Flips Car, Dances at Phuket Crash Scene

I am curious about her nationality. News reports often indicate where these goofballs come from. I was surprised that Prince Charming had no tattoos. Both smokers, so does that make any nationalities improbable? -
Russell Brand criminally charged with rape...
cdemundo replied to FriscoKid's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
He was funny comedian, he was very quick witted and reminded me of Robin Williams in the way he could take off on a verbal riff at any time. Of course his flamboyant clothes and hair style are off-putting to a lot of the elderly fuddy-duddies (gosh, can I say fuddy-duddy on AN?, can I say gosh?, oh my) who have taken a dislike to him. Sounds like the CPS doesn't charge unless they are very confident of conviction so he will no doubt have a tough time at trial. Sounds like he behaved criminally and hate to see famous and prominent people get away with that. -
You know that was a movie right?

I probably should have paid the money.

"I'd suspect his son will remember a bossy mum that was trying to ram things down his throat that he does not want." You might be right but the OP said: "It's now going round on group chat's that my son's father is tight and stingy and not good." So the drama did not go unnoticed. "I would not dream of going to an arranged party and then taking over what had been arranged, would you?" As I said "Sounds like the lady was an annoying old hen and I understand your desire to stick it to her.." -
I probably should have paid the money.
cdemundo replied to Packer's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Wow. Maybe you can't afford $50 once a year for his birthday, but I am guessing you probably can. So why not be the bigger person and pay the whole bill to keep your son happy? Sounds like the lady was an annoying old hen and I understand your desire to stick it to her, even still ... Birthday is once a year, what will your son remember, a fun party or a drama over the bill? I guess it's "the principle of the thing". -
Opinion piece from the NYT contrasting US approach and Chinese approach to technology etc. Interesting, although the prediction of China's ascendancy has been made before without it materializing. "It’s downright scary to watch this close up. President Trump is focused on what teams American transgender athletes can race on, and China is focused on transforming its factories with A.I. so it can outrace all our factories. Trump’s “Liberation Day” strategy is to double down on tariffs while gutting our national scientific institutions and work force that spur U.S. innovation. China’s liberation strategy is to open more research campuses and double down on A.I.-driven innovation to be permanently liberated from Trump’s tariffs." https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/02/opinion/trump-tariffs-china.html Chinese products never seemed competitive to me in the past. It seemed like Chinese business hadn't gotten past the mindset of trying to win by cutting corners rather than outperforming their competition. I don't remember seeing Chinese products that seemed superior. Maybe I was just prejudiced but Huawei's offerings always seemed like also-rans to me. I have recently ridden in a few Chinese automobiles which on first inspection seem to be quality vehicles. Have some BYD Seal owners on AN I think and it seems like a winner. The Chinese AI platform is apparently a shiny new object among the many AI apps. Has Chinese technology turned a corner? The article is a very interesting discussion of what is happening in Chinese technology.

Top 10 Reasons People Spend Time on the Forum
cdemundo replied to JK-Trilly's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
The character Sheldon on "Big Bang Theory" was arguing at the Department of Motor Vehicles that their test questions were incorrect. His friends tried to discourage him. He said "How else are they going to learn?". This is how I feel when "correcting" AN members. "How else are they going to learn?". So I guess you could say I participate for humanitarian reasons. I post an average of 1.4 posts per day, which I think reflects badly on my ability to find constructive activities. When I see that some post close to 100 times per day I think there must be something wrong with them. -
"Deleting blacks, women and Indians from history." This is the one that seems ominous to me. I seem to remember from history that autocratic regimes in the 20th Century altered photos and changed records to eliminate unwanted people and things from history. Creepy to think it's being done in the US.

I said absolutely nothing about Islam. I was talking about the American system of government, something (along with truth) for which you clearly have no respect. -
