Hua Hin was voted 3rd best place in the world to retire last year by some website. Maybe Forbes. Very subjective but I personally think Hua Hin is pretty nice and not yet ruined by over tourism and over development like Phuket and Pattaya have been imo. Still has the benefit of being relatively close to BKK, just like Pattaya. I started doing this last year. The visa thing was a bigger hassle than I expected so I was seriously thinking of going somewhere else this year. The new 5 year DTV lets me stay for 180 days without having to worry about travel dates and questions from immigration officers and dealing with more paperwork and bureaucracy, so it should be much easier now with that option.
