  1. Wow! Farangs that live in Phitsanulok seem to have made a very bad impression on the local Thais. Glad I don't live there.
  2. Also be aware that they will take 15% of the interest you earn for tax. You may be able to get a refund of this 15% if you get a tax ID and do the paper work.
  3. I would suggest a little more thought should go into picking a title to your post but maybe this old post will provide some help.
  4. I think the trip to go get the $20K would cost me a lot more than the tax but sounds like a good plan if you go home every 2 years anyway. Not sure if I will be affected but to be on the safe side I transferred some money to Thailand so I have enough to live on. Hopefully there will be some clarity on this change prior to needing to do another transfer.
  5. You may want to look at one of the threads on the tax change in 2024 on money coming into Thailand. I am not clear what this means at this time but just think you should be aware of it if you are planning on moving a large sum of money into the country in 2024.
  6. This was in the news a few months ago. The link I found is from a site not allowed on here so just a bit of the text. British expat James Lee Valentine went on a 1,000km journey to raise money for children. Valentine, 59, wanted to raise 1 million baht for Take Care Kids, a children's foundation based in Pattaya. The walk from Pattaya to Phuket covered 1,050km. The 48-day walk ended on June 6.
  7. Kindness for me rarely has to do with money. It is helping some one when they fall, it is holding the door open for someone when they are carrying something. It is a smile a nod or a wave. It is pointing someone in the right direction when they are lost. I have received so much kindness in my life life from other people that there is no way I can ever replay what I have already received. Is it something that works in life? I have no idea but it would be a miserable world without it. I will keep trying to be kind to people every day no mater if it works or not. I feel good when I am kind to others so I guess it works for me.
  8. Reading this post and what pops in my head. "We don't need no water let the Mother F-er burn. Burn mother f-er, burn." I guess this just shows my age and bad taste is music but the video put a smile on my face today.
  9. I find the problem is that there is no information on how it will be implemented. I do not currently have a Thai Tax ID and still not sure if I will need one. I hope this will be a lot clearer by the time I do my next extension. I have enough money in the country to live on until I extend my stay. After that I will have to decide if I want to bring more money into the country or start spending my 800K.
  10. DrJack, I know this thread is about Bangkok but is it still the case that the one exception to this is Chiang Mai? I had read in the past that if your home was in Chiang Mai and you traveled within Thailand that Chiang Mai immigration wanted a new TM-30 on returning home. Thanks as always.
  11. Could you provide a report of how it all went at immigration once you have gone?
  12. You keep saying 30-day report. There is no "30-day report". A TM-30 is a "Notification of Residence" and should be done within 24 hours of moving to a new place. It is also required if you leave the country and re-entry under a new visa or visa waiver. When you got fined the 800 baht you should have received a "Notification of Residence". Look at the paper work that they gave you after you paid the fine. If you have not left the country or moved since this fine that paper work should be a valid TM-30. Just take the papers you received before and go to immigration to file the 90-day report. You should not be fined again. I would take a copy of your valid lease and a copy of the landlords ID with you as well and of course your passport. Also the form for the 90 day report is a TM-47 not 48 which you have the title of the thread. If you go 7 days past the 90 day date I think the fine is 2000 baht. Good luck at immigration.
  13. My answer was correct to your question. You seem to ask a lot of silly questions. That may be why you get some silly but correct answers.
  14. Ask a stupid question!
  15. One has the Andaman Sea the other has the Gulf of Thailand.
  16. This may be true for the Non-Imm O visa but the insurance requirements for the O-A was changed just last year. I think you have been here a long time so assume you were here prior to the O-A even requiring insurance. I just wanted to point out that there have been recent changes to one of the retirement visas and some people have been impacted by the change.
  17. Thanks for the link. I think the OP might be better planing the route and using grab. For 399 baht you could take a number of taxis and I assume you will be 2 people so you are looking at 798 baht. Haggle with with a tuktuk to get one ride and see what it is like and the rest of the day use grab or bolt. That being said I looked at Trip Advisor and most of the reviews are positive. https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionProductReview-g293916-d17823777-Bangkok_Old_Town_Tuk_Tuk_Hop_On_Hop_Off-Bangkok.html
  18. I did a search and got that google withholds taxes. Could this be the issue?
  19. You didn't meditate prior to that reply.
  20. No need for a retreat. Next time you think about posting on the form meditate for 20 minutes. Repeat this each time you think about posting for a week and you have saved a lot of money on the cost of a retreat.
  21. You know that retirement in South East Asia is not for everyone. It may be better that you accept South East Asia is only a holiday for you and plan on staying in Oz. If you plan on living to 100 it is the safer choice.
  22. Go for it Bob we need another how BS does Koh Chang story.
  23. Thanks for your reply as well as replies from other members. I have brought a bit more of my savings into the country. I want to have enough money in the country to live on until I understand how the new tax is implemented. Once I am past my 2024 extension I have a year to decide if the new tax is something I can deal with or time to leave Thailand. It all just seems unclear at this point and I don't have as much faith in a tax treaty as other people. I want to avoid being in the middle while people talk about the wording of a tax treaty.
  24. Thanks for this. I assume in addition to the 71,000 tax I will need to get a Thai Tax ID and be expected to submit a Thai tax return yearly? I come from a country with a tax treaty but my income is below the standard deduction there so am not currently paying any tax. I am living mostly on saving which I believe will be seen as income when coming into Thailand.
  25. I went in and talked to them. They refunded my last charge and did the same thing I do with the *137 and said it was resolved. Since then I have been resubscribed to an SMS service twice and the 1st time did the *137 after a five baht charge. The 2nd time I had a balance of 4 baht and received a SMS that I was subscribed to a service and then an SMS which cost 3 baht. Not much money but frustrating. I only use True for data and have an unlimited data package that I need to load 150 baht a month. I have had this SIM for 3 years and read about the *137 to disable subscriptions on here after first getting the SIM. After finding the *137 I had no issues for at least 2 year but now the *137 only seems to temporary stop these subscriptions. I plan to order a new sim with a 1 year data package so I can keep a 0 balance and only have to worry about it once a year. There a number of threads like the following about true SMS subscriptions.
