Thanks for the link, but it doesn't really focus on the detail of the question. I've read the same thing time and time again on various websites which all indicate it should be possible. But I've never heard anything about it being done in the manner described in the OP, which lead me to believe that there must be some reason this isn't in fact a practical solution.

Sunak ‘risks full-scale trade war’ with Brussels by scrapping EU laws
JayClay replied to Scott's topic in World News
He will. In 2028. Right now he can't. While there's now an overwhelming majority of people who understand that leaving the EU was the wrong choice, that's not the same as the amount of people who think we should rejoin which, while over 50%, is still not a "safe" majority. Aside from financial penalties ,people lost friends and family to arguments over brexit, the wounds are still healing and there are still enough people who would rather nurse those wounds and hope we can somehow make it work, rather than open up to another round of emotional trauma. If the UK had a system of proportional representation then we'd be coming close to the stage where Labour could at least open the topic for debate. But right now, there is not enough evidence that voters in the swing seats (the few million voters who actually decide the government) are yet convinces that we need to rejoin. There's no point in promising a return to the EU if by doing so it means you won't get elected. -

Unless, you know, we actually want to sell our products and services into the EU. -
I was posed a question recently which I wasn't able to convincingly answer, so I thought I'd seek refuge in the experts on here and see if I can't understand the issue a little better. I'm almost certain the answer to the question is "No, you can't do that", but I can't justify why it's not possible, other than the fact that, if it was, surely we'd hear of people doing it. So the question went something like this: "If I work remotely (ie I have a business/an income in my home country based on freelancing as a graphic designer, software developer, business consult etc...) and want to obtain a Non-B visa and work permit for doing so, I have to employ 4 Thai staff to be able to apply for the work permit. This is not realistic as the overheads of paying for the staff would be too high, and there'd be nothing for them to do. Could I not then start up a general company dedicated to doing multiple activities; 'Tommy and Noi's Bakery and Graphic Design Emporium', for example. Whereby I could easily employ 4 staff to run the bakery, giving me enough staff to then apply for a work permit, so I can then start billing your remote freelance clients through the business?" As I say, I've never heard of this happening so I'm sure it's not possible. But on what grounds would it not be possible. I felt a little silly saying "not possible, but I don't know why" (I got over it..), but I'd be interested in the actual answer. Do limited companies in Thailand, for example, have much stricter rules than other countries on what can be put in the articles of association for a company? I know in England, for example, it's common to register the purpose of your business as a "general trading company" to grant as much flexibility in your dealings as possible. Or is there some other rule or regulation which would prevent this on a legal or practical basis. Over to you, Team AseanNow.

And this lack of understanding at such an extremely basic level is why there should have never been a referendum. Others have already answered your question so I won't repeat those responses here but this is nothing really to do with Brexit, other than the fact that leaving the UK allows the government to do this unchallenged (or so they thought). This is a desperate power grab by a very small minority of Tory MPs on the far right who know that now is thier last chance in at least a generation to get the deregulated society they've always dreamed of. As Phil Moorhouse once pointed out, even as a desperate last-minute act of despair it doesn't make sense; why spend your last days in government taking power away from the people simply to give it all to the next (labour) government. The only ones who will benefit out of this are those who will inevitably be shorting the pound if it ever comes close to actually being a reality. -
How Social are the Expat communities in Thailand ?
JayClay replied to Social Media's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
While you see a lot of that on ASEAN Now, I find that the people you meet when out and about seem to be united against Russians and Chinese exclusively. And boy will you hear about it! Very often when you meet somebody one of the first questions you will be asked is where you're from. I used to naively think this was just a bit of "small talk", part of getting to know you kind of thing. But unfortunately, more often than not, it's just a way for your new-found friend to confirm you're not Russian so that they can go off on a rant about how much they dislike Russians. -

To expand on my previous answer, if you're going to use an old phone due to security concerns, then make sure you reset it first so it's not connected to any of your accounts otherwise you're going to a lot of effort for nothing ???? The two main potential security concerns are the app itself, and the Know Your Customer process. When it comes to the app, as I have said before, it doesn't ask for any dangerous permissions, so it can only breech security is by exploiting unpatched or undocumented firmware issues. This is highly unlikely. If the app suddenly asks me for access to my media, location or camera with no justified reason then it's time to reassess. I haven't gone through the KYC process yet and don't intend to do so until I have time to research the platform more thoroughly. It's not a requirement at this stage, but it will be before you can transfer your own coins into a tradable wallet. -
Is there anything like a Beelink with a remote?
JayClay replied to giddyup's topic in Audio Visual AV
Or, to expand on that, all of them! You can get a USB remote and plug it into any computer. Run some TV-friendly front end such as Kodi, and you're good to go. -

Expert? No. But I know enough on the subject to be able to make reasonable risk assessments. Yes -

I've already analyzed that risk in a previous post in the topic. My conclusion was that the security risk is extremely low at present. -
Back to the UK after 21 years - anything changed?
JayClay replied to simon43's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
I am aware of who the OP is and his history and why he is returning to the UK. Cancer is a horrible disease and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But I don't expect that the OP would want to be treated differently because of it. I would have responded to anybody else involved in making such "humor", as you call it. -

Yes that was pretty much my conclusion. Will it make me rich? ...Probably not, but you never know. Will it even make me any significant money? ... Again I'm doubtful. Will it at least one day pay for a couple of extra Changs? ...Maybe.? Or maybe not! All the time the app isn't requesting suspicious permissions, and while I can still disable adverts, it's doing no harm being on my phone so for now I'll keep up with it. -

1 - Same as it's been since I was born. 5 pound notes had gone plastic last time I was there. I guess others may have followed suit since. 2 - Some places only accept card payments, if that's what your asking. 3 - Of course not. Don't be ridiculous. 4 - No, of course it isn't. Is this some kind of hobby of yours? 5 - It depends on what exactly it is you are saying about them, of course. 6 - Of course not. Don't be ridiculous. It seems from your particular question set that you've already decided that you're not going to like being in the UK. That's sad for you. -

Day 3 of my adventure and when going to the homescreen to start the mining process for the day I got a pop-up telling me that they would be serving ads to help generate the money to run the server, but I could turn these off in the app settings. After dismissing that popup I immediately got another popup stating that they were "experimenting" with full screen ads. After dismissing this pop up, I was made to sit through a 30 second advert for some ridiculous game. Once the advert had finished playing I was able to go into settings and find the option to disable ads. My faith that this is a genuine product is quickly dissolving, but as long as the ad setting is respected, I will continue for now. -
"It's got nothing to do with Brexit"!
JayClay replied to Social Media's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Yep. Inflation is caused by the Tories other screwed up policies, not Brexit. Brexit has caused many issues for the UK economy but maybe inflation isn't one of them. Lesson learned; don't make comments on political posts when half cut at 2 in the morning ???? -

JayClay replied to Social Media's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Fair enough, I stand corrected. It does seem that the UK is doing marginally better than Italy and Hungary, and actually a lot better than certain other countries. It's still the highest in the G7. -
That looks great for a home cooked pizza. What do you use for the base?

"Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says inflation has been mainly caused by high energy prices" Indeed inflation in the UK is higher than anywhere in Europe. And UK energy prices are double that of other countries in Europe. So, Rishieee.... Why exactly *are* energy prices in the UK so high? Ah yes because you wouldn't implement a proper windfall tax because that's not the tory way. Having the rich subsidsie the poor, although the basis of any functional economic model, makes them sick to the stomach. -

Can you guys please take it to a more appropriate thread. Seriously. It's pathetic. As I said in my analysis above there's no way, at the moment, that the app can do that. Yes, they could push an update which does so but you still have to grant the permission to the app to do so. If the app suddenly starts asking for inappropriate permissions then that's the time to worry. Until then the only real risk appears to wasting a few seconds every day to press the "mine" button.
