Jomtien's gone rogue on Non-Imm O visa
foreverlomsak replied to Pattaya57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
So have I, at about 11:00am walking on the sidewalk/pavement outside a hotel that they (3 armed immigration officers) had just come out of. I had the copies you said on me but it was not good enough for them, they wanted the physical passport, as to quote them photos and copies can be altered, and other ID like pink card and DL mean nothing to them. More worrying though is the retention of the passport, as you need it for transactions inside the bank to name but one. -
Jomtien's gone rogue on Non-Imm O visa
foreverlomsak replied to Pattaya57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You mean that they kept it, which I understand to be illegal (sorry this is Thailand), leaving you exposed to a fine or worse for not having your passport on you or being unable to produce it in a reasonable amount of time if you ever stopped. Don't say nobody gets stopped in the street because I have been, and look at all the bar checks that are happening now, to weed out overstayers, etc.. -
WISE Question
foreverlomsak replied to Neeranam's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
IMO Wise have lower charges for the transfer and better exchange rates. The reason certainly matters if you are going down the "Income" route for your annual extensions as you need to show the money has come from abroad (applicable to American, British and Australians as they are unable to get Income letters from their embassies), otherwise doesn't really matter. -
I'm sure you can't convert in country, I certainly couldn't and none of the people I worked with were able to either. When I retired went to Immigration and they extended my "permission to stay" by reason of retirement, they did not put a new VISA in my passport. My last entry into the country was in 2016 on a 3 month Non-B VISA. As I see it basically Embassies provide a VISA which is permission from them to enter the country, Immigration if they are happy will then convert it into "permission to stay" with an end date (at that point the Embassy VISA is effectively dead having been superseded by the "Permission" Stamp), sometime before that date you need to extend your "permission to stay" at your local Immigration office. Most people (including Immigration) refer to extending their "permission to stay" as getting a new visa, which can cause considerable confusion when trying to unravel what problem the poster is trying to get help on.

Thai man arrested for selling fake 1,000 baht banknotes
foreverlomsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
At 100 Baht selling price for a 1,000 Baht note, and also buy 10 get 1 free how could anyone believe they might be real. There must be a lot around though, last twice I've used a 1,000 note in a 7-11 they checked the notes before accepting them. -
The school papers being out of date, might be employee numbers, i.e. numbers of Thai's employed vs foreigners. You are not allowed to work on a Tourist Visa, employers will tell you it's OK provided you plan to convert to a Non-B later, but ....... A Work Permit will not be issued to you while on a Tourist Visa or an extension thereof.

When my father was in hospital, I went to Phitsanulok Immigration and explained that it would need an ambulance to transport him there and back. Both our extensions were due at the same time, I offered to obtain a doctors certificate, but it was not needed, they waived the need for him to attend, provided I did both extensions at the same time. I had a lot more problems getting the bank letter without him, even after I explained he was in ICU they were adamant that he attend the bank in person to sign the request for the letter, after I threatened them with bringing him from the hospital to the bank in an ambulance (full lights and sirens) and have him carried inside, they relented and gave me the letter.

Can the middle name be omitted on Thai passports?
foreverlomsak replied to Meredy's topic in Family and Children
Didn't think there was an option to not show your middle name in the passport from your home country, as it should align with your birth certificate. As for Thailand I believe the name will appear in the passport as it is in the House book/Thai ID card/ Birth Certificate. Your right both passports should be the same name, if they aren't it could potentially be big trouble with airlines. -
Stranded in Thailand: Bankrupt foreign woman unable to return home
foreverlomsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Krabi News
Sorry for the woman if the story is true. It's years since I've had 20 Baht in my wallet, matter of fact, I don't even know where my wallet is living, we parted company years ago. -
In my case, employed by a school and my contract of employment was not going to be extended for another year as I was over 60, so things might be little bit different. The owners son took me on my last day to the Labor office to terminate the WP, and then to Immigration to cancel the Non-B, I was informed there that I could apply for a change of reason for staying or be given 7 days to sort out affairs. Easy for me Retirement my family are here, my wife being Thai, also I had been on Retirement Extensions before joining the school to fill a gap that had occurred. I was required to write a letter to Immigration explaining why I wished to change from Non-B to Retirement. Out the door with an extension to my Permission to Stay in 20 minutes. Don't know if this will help in your situation.

Why create a new one, it's just another string of 15 characters to remember or write down (and possibly type wrong - why I use copy and paste) when the provided one is right there on the e-mail next to the working link. What harm does it do to keep the original password, it's not like giving access to bank accounts.

Man brutally kills 4 stray dogs in southern Thailand
foreverlomsak replied to webfact's topic in Southern Thailand News
a plague in Thailand - probably so should follow his example - don't think so, there are a lot of less brutal ways of controlling the numbers and bear in mind a lot of breeds were trained as attack to dogs to protect people and their animals so they are just obeying their "human programming" you could even eat them - it is only in recent times that eating dogs in Thailand has been curtailed, eating rats is a norm here if not a delicacy - who eats more trash dogs or rats or .... -
There appears to be a lot of comments about the on-line system, like doesn't work, etc. So thought I'd impart my experience 1. Sunday 7 May at 01:00 am received e-mail 15 day reminder. 2. Sunday 7 May at 01:26 pm submitted application, note 19 April renewed extension so date needed to be updated (I know I've 15 days). 3. Wednesday 10 May at 08:59 am received approval and receipt to copy and keep with passport. This is the longest I've had to wait for approval with the new on-line system (3 approved 1 day after submission, 3 approved same day, then this one) , and unlike some others I did have limited success with the old system. I have retained the registration e-mail where they provide your password and a link to the app. Have always gone in through this link, use copy and paste for password, insert passport no and nationality, select magnifying glass (for autofill), check for any discrepancies and submit.

Usually it is delivered to the mail box on the gate post (I'm not in Bangkok by the way), I still get monthly bank statements, usually they come 2 or 3 at a time, as does the CAT Wi-Fi invoices, I'm always paying the Wi-Fi bill with 1 or 2 previous months receipts attached to an old invoice. I like the 4 days for delivery for UK pensions stuff, I just forwarded my claim last week, but excuse me if I don't hold my breath, based on the paragraph above it'll probably be 4 months not 4 days.

Mom & Pop shops are nearly always happy to take small change, (I'm often asked by one if I have any), say in amounts enough for 2 or 3 bottles of beer at a time. OK so you need to get small bags or a container and count the coins yourself first. To me, not having to get my wallet out and break larger notes, it feels a bit like free beer.

I had an account with them prior to moving out here in 2005, as I knew it would not be possible to maintain a UK address, I went to my branch to get them to use my Thai address for correspondence. The answer even then was a categoric NO. Only suggestion that they had was to open an offshore account.

Non 0 retirement renewal 65k method
foreverlomsak replied to DickThrust's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Lucky you, in Phetchabun I have to copy every page of the bank book, tried one year (2020 I think) to give only pages with current year (incidentally went back to 2018) not good enough had to be all pages of the book, meant submitting copies back to 2014 when the book started. Same with passport need copies of all pages, other offices need only face page and extension stamp. -
Police raid condo of German tax fraud suspect hiding in Thailand

Kind of implies that not all the rooms were searched, doesn't it.
