  1. That's why they invented backpacks ????
  2. A quick edit on my part, as 35 stuck on the brain, but haven't paid that in a while. 39-42 baht / kg on recent purchases from Makro. Only when they over order, might see 35 baht, and rare of late. Although the normal priced, if not closer to 30 at the fresh market, which I don't visit much, and usually not for potatoes, as well stocked most times.
  3. To the title, and why I preferred to stop paying taxes in USA, as not liking what they wasted it on. Here/TH, and the tax treaty will avoid any taxes on income. As with most expats. But for some reason, we need thread after thread of 'not going to be taxed' to worry about.
  4. At 35-45 baht a kg, do you really need to find cheaper, and is it worth the journey. You're not buying a ton, as they only last about a week or 2 before sprouting.
  5. Sadly, more than a few sickos out there. Maybe someone trying to copy tiktok or yt vids, of people doing the same. Seen more than a few and wonder why they haven't been arrested for 'negligent endangerment'. Could easily blind somebody:
  6. If you can't find potatoes, you're not looking very hard. You do have to go to more than 1 vendor if you favorite doesn't have. I'm in small town, and have 2 chain stores and at least 3 fresh markets, that i pass, available during the week. Surely where most people live there's got to be one on the way to/from the barstool. ????
  7. Immigration issues, that's a tough one. Married or retired, too easy. But online working, problem with proving that is what you are doing. Job protectionism vs enticing 'honest' people to visit and work here. Sadly, people aren't honest or trustworthy, and as always, most suffer because of the few. Why they even have immigration laws to begin with. Even the married & retired can't be trusted to be honest, and how simple is that to stay here. Personally like it just the way it is, and actually wish they'd enforce the rules a bit more. Sucks for the honest nomadic online worker, but seriously, how many are there ? Can the infrastructure, already strained beyond it's ability, handle another million cars or toilets being flushed. Need to sort out the infrastructure before welcoming the masses. Brown outs & water shortages are already the norm here.
  8. Yea ... if I can't drive up to that viewpoint, well, there's another one down the road, just as nice. I don't even bother with Nat. Parks, as viewpoints are just as nice in the area to/from the park. They really do, most, lack any reason to visit or overnight in one. With very few exceptions. And with my prostate, I need a private toilet from nightfall to sunrise. Camping ... hell NO. Most bungalows are crap & overpriced.
  9. Better, as suggested, just stop them from accessing you 'kitchen' area. It's called 'chicken wire' for a reason. Actually should screen in the whole area anyway, as chickens are your least thing to worry about.
  10. Then you have a carcass to deal with. I'd suggest eating it, as above, but probably not very tender or much meat on it. Not the rooster's fault, just being itself. I kind of like hearing them in the AM, though I'm up early anyway. Strangely, none near us, or that I hear. A few next to the last hotel we were at. Beats loud motorbikes buzzing by in early rush hour.
  11. Just take it for a long drive and drop it off somewhere, problem solved, till next one shows up.
  12. Unfortunately, that will never be a reality. Why when O&A, we don't even bother with the metro areas, as hate driving in congestion, and public trans is lacking. Even Krung Thep is annoying to get around during rush hour on public trans. If not for daughter living there, we would avoid going there at all.
  13. When I was 18-25 yrs old, then all I could afford was cars 10+ yrs old. With couple exceptions, wanting an alder classic; 1950 Buick or my older Caddy. But most purchases were poverty driven. ???????? As stated earlier, only 1 new vehicle/work truck (required) in USA. Here/TH, 2nd hand are silly priced, and in many ways suspect (flooding), I simply by new, along with no desire to be stranded when O&A. In metro area, imagine diesel banned, and half of or more cars are EV, then what a pleasure breathing the air would be. And avoid a lot of health issues diesel exhaust causes. Not a big believer in MMCC myself, but local air pollution would be much improved. Very relevant depending where you live. TH, EVs will be more economical for quite some time, if not always. Even when on the road, cost to top up is less than half a petrol car. At home 1/4 or 1/5 the price of petrol, more if having a TOU meter, or solar system. Cost to buy in is the same as Japanese imported ICEVs, or even 1 decent EV (Neta V) cheaper than Japanese badged ICEVs (4cyl /1.5L) made it TH.
  14. 8 yr warranty, if still around, don't think I'll / she'll need to swap it out with <150k kms, if that.
  15. To the thread title .. Pretty much the same, though sold everything before TH was a thought. Knew I was leaving the state I lived in (TN), and the state (PA) my properties were in. And probably the USA all together. TH being last place I visited, during retirement place recons, and decided, why not. Doubt if I'd return to USA, to live anyway. Maybe a year or 2 nomadic visit of all the National Parks, but that's all. Same, Thai wife, makes RE investments (not rentals) very easy, Still have brokerage account in USA, with address (brother's), though everything else is TH (SS/DD). Keeping the properties in USA would have only made sense if I needed the income they produced (rentals), all were free & clear. RE Taxes being a killer, and investing in TH has been better. Friends & family live in an area I'd wouldn't return to, so no need for any connection in the USA. Definitely no regrets, as It's been quite fun living in TH. Same same as USA, but different ???? No real desire or thoughts of leaving.
  16. Even if not LFP battery, the others seem to be around the 1000 cycle mark, and we would even have a hard time putting 300+k kms on a vehicle. Especially my wife, and even myself, as my O&As are winding down. O&As this past year, come end of Oct 2023, will account for 40-50% of our driving. About 7k or our 18k kms already, with 1 more outing up N, and probably 2k+ kms R/T. Having a hard time finding different, interesting things of late, since been around the country so many times. Just hope the rest of the car, last as long as the motor & battery pack. If not, battery pack added to the solar system. Surely the techies will have that down to an easy swap out, when and if the time comes.
  17. I tried myself, and yea, too many links, and not the one I want. Sure I posted the source the first time I posted the graph. Some time ago. So many other sites agree, I stopped looking. edit: well done Vinny
  18. Make your own, too easy. Don't want to deal with casings, make sausage patties, or shape as links, if wanting. Make a sauce out of the pan drippings, nothing lost or wasted ????
  19. Yea ... and apparently 2500 cycles for an LFP battery is on the low end of estimates. As posted, for our ZS, that's 900k kms. If just take about 500k of those, extreme negative, that's 25 yrs of driving for us. Well, for me, as the wife won't be driving that much after I'm gone. I'm knocking on 68, and will be long gone. 25 yrs, and she'll be in her 70's, and still have 80% capacity of the battery. Not needing to be replaced and simply less range per charge. Everything she needs is 5 kms away, so 250ish kms range certainly won't impact here life. She can even make a R/T to Hua Hin with that range, and still have a nice reserve when back home. How much is a 25 yr old car worth. About -0-, EV or ICEV. At least the EV won't require constant maintenance & new parts. Try getting parts for a 25 yr old ICEV ... good luck with that one. I had 1950 Buick Special in 1975. Had to rebuild the carb, with a kit that wasn't even made for it. Since no junk yard had a 1950 carb for it, or anything close. It actually worked, but rebuilding a carb, not for the faint of heart, even if having the proper kit.
  20. Google search the text in the photo, and it should pop up. Quick attempt and I couldn't find, but most sites agree with 2500 cycle for LFP. More than a few to peek at on G.
  21. Why would 'state owned' auto makers, need to give themselves subsidies? Are people that daft. They sell cars to their citizens, at near cost, as that's how socialism works. State owned businesses are not profit driven to their own citizens, as it should be. They make up the profit line, when exporting & selling. No price gouging at home. No silly overpaid union workers. The simply provide quality vehicles to their citizens that need them, and an affordable price. All types & price ranges. The 'Big Four' Chinese auto makers are 'state owned': "There exists a grouping of traditional “Big Four” state-owned car manufacturers of China, namely: SAIC Motor, FAW, Dongfeng, and Chang’an, with car sales of 5.37 million, 3.50 million, 3.28 million and 2.30 million in 2021 respectively" - wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive_industry_in_China The ignorance of the anti EV / CH folks is mind boggling.
  22. And some folks think the 2500 cycles is conservative and quote 10k. That's a stretch. And they don't need replacement, just hold 80% of original capacity. Most if having a problem, with cells/module, simply replace the cell/module that at bad, not the whole pack.
  23. You really think she is qualified to be president ? Has nothing to do with her being a mixed race female. She's simply incompetent to hold office. And people wonder how the country got in the state it is.
  24. I know plenty about buying old cars. That's what you buy till you can buy new ones: https://aseannow.com/topic/1303105-what-about-your-first-few-years-of-mechanisedmotorised-transport/#comment-18270550
  25. Far from rich, just comfy. That's what happens when you work, plan a retirement and use common sense. Luckily no major health issues along the way.
