  1. As stated, many (all) of us EV owners, have stated, they are not for everyone, though as you point out, does fit the OP's profile on planned use. Especially if owning house & going solar. And yes, agree there are a few, very few areas of TH, that CS may not be available, or need to plan ahead to verify. No argument with that, though would affect very few people. I've stated they definitely are not for 'working' over the road folks, or simply extremely impatient people, who need to be somewhere as soon as possible. I myself prefer to smell the coffee with a view on my journeys. Usually enjoy that, more than some destinations. "EVs ARE NOT FOR IMPATIENT PEOPLE: ... driving 100+ kph, range factor ... 5 hrs driving/petrol/5hrs driving, 30min-45min CS stop2, ever so often will not be for you." https://aseannow.com/topic/1276247-ev-owners-…-real-life-experience-help-thread/page/4/#comment-17756935
  2. I simply would not respond to them. Guessing it was so long ago, your card has expired, been reissued, so they probably can't process it. Even if not, you'd have to authorize, I would think. Just ignore them.
  3. I hope the OP listens to current EV owners, instead of the BS coming from anti-EV'ers.
  4. I feel safer in my EV vs ICE version of our SUV, as pointed out in the article below. Yet to see an EV on fire, or many reports of. ICE s are in the news quite often, in flames, and I've seen my share on the road. Here's a Tesla, after a horrific crash ... ... SPLIT IN HALF ... Didn't catch on fire, didn't blow up, didn't even compromise the battery pack. "The driver of the Model X walked away with a minor injury to his leg while the occupants of the other vehicle were brought to nearby hospitals for treatment" https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-model-x-splits-half-crash-nissan-gt-r-runs-red-light/
  5. A few thoughts ... Solar is good idea, but, do you own the house and not going any where in the next 10ish years ? If you plan on buying a new car next couple years anyway, then EV would be a good choice. Buy in prices aren't much higher than top end popular sedans made in Thailand. Example: MG EP is ฿771k, new top end Vios is ฿789k. Gov't incentives for EVs expire late 2023, I think. That's quite an incentive to buy before they do expire. We picked up the MG ZS EV, for ฿949, and insurance value now if totaled, is ฿960k, due to the govt incentives we received. Instead of losing 25% when driven off the lot, we gained a few ???? If you keep your present Vios for few more years, 3-5 yrs, then it won't be worth much at all. Operating cost is substantially less with an EV. MG estimates over 8 yrs, maintenance cost is about ฿16.2k. Having the ICE version of the ZS, cost shy of ฿10k in just 2 yrs/40k kms, and just oil changes & filters, w/ free labor ???? Petrol vs charging at home, w/PEA, at full rate/฿5 per kW, over the 8 yr battery warranty / 180k kms ... petrol from ฿600k @ ฿35 per Liter. EV about ฿112k, if paying PEA @ ฿5. T.O.U. Meter would cut that about half. Those number are exact cost, comparing my MG ZS ICE vs MG ZS EV. Actually I get more kms per charge than I calculating, when doing. For us, electric is free, as we already had solar at the house, and plenty extra for the EV. With the MG EP or ZS EV, 200 kms shouldn't be any problem doing 90 kph, as we are getting more, and still have a 20% battery reserve. First test run, we drove 240 km, and car stated we had another 60 kms to go, before draining the battery, which you never want to do. That was in 'normal' mode, and we get more kms per charge now, in 'eco' mode. No noticeable difference in performance. Driving < 60 kph locally & 90 kph on highway. The cost analysis I did, at the end of 8 yrs, with buy in cost, no down payment or trade in, Cost to buy-in & operate, w/ both cars costing new - ฿771k: ICE was ฿1.500,000 EV was ฿900,000 Continuing after 8 yrs, for another 8 yrs: ICE ... fuel & maintenance ... ฿740K EV ... electric & maintenance... ฿129k Considering petrol & electric remains the same prices; ฿35 per liter / ฿5 per kW, if oil goes up, so will electric. If staying in your house, then solar is an excellent investment for house & EV.
  6. I guess walking across the street and grabbing a gurney and an intern was beyond anyone's thought process. Beyond that, I would have called police, said 'officer down, GSW, @ said address' ???? Simple solutions to simple problems ????
  7. Surf was pristine, with more than few fish. Even put my head / ears underwater without fear of infection ???? All those toilets not being flushed ... no worries ????
  8. I think a few may want to actually read the 'op-ed' ... ... "Donald Trump and his family were not charged in this case,"
  9. Not a peep from me, it was bliss ... no tourist. Locally ... lockdown ... what lockdown ???? O&A ... CM, Ao Nang, Phuket with no tourist during peak high season ... ... nuff said Phuket beaches ... Feb 2021 ????
  10. The other morning I was enjoying them chit chattin' away, as they do everyday. Not in the garden, but saw my first Kestrel, actually 2 of them, a few kms away from the house. Saw the 1, turned the corner, then another on the hunt.
  11. Reference to Whelan bio ... unfortunately, it's hard to believe anything any more. CIA wouldn't leave him hanging ... ???? Devil's advocate ... wouldn't he be the perfect one to pick as a 'double agent', as on paper, disgraced and unhappy with USA ... good cover, then gather info. Totally irrelevant ... as the trade was a bad deal ... period. A doper for an arms dealer. Surely Victor's talents will be utilized again, maybe to assist Putin's fight with UA. Not a bod thing, depending who's side of that battle you are rooting for, UA or RU. Prison Exchange score: bIden - 0 Putin - 1
  12. Hard to argue with the amount of food that is wasted and mismanaged, while other areas in the world simply don't have enough.
  13. ฿100 and that was a tip. As he didn't charge me anything, as there was nothing wrong to fix. Took it in because it was shutting down. Shutting down ... yea, embarrassing, the fans were that clogged up ????
  14. Some of my best O&As were during the past almost 3 yrs, and I took advantage of it. As I know it will never be that good again. Had to hang around the house build for late 2021/2022
  15. Mixed bag with that one. IN or AT the house ... or not at all. Photos from back & front porch. Drone flying from the house, and can actually do it from inside w/ AC if I want. Lots of glass, so inside w/ AC isn't much different than looking off the back veranda. Other times, I'm not at the house for weeks ... ... out exploring ???? Walk the dog 2 or 3 times a day, locally, at the park, or at the surf. Do spend more time in the house than out. Been lovely temps lately, and the rest of the week, should be < 30° Cooking from scratch can be time consuming, and reminds me, I need to bake some bread today. Watching the wife garden and harvest me some figs is a great home past time ... ???? Before the squirrels get 'em ... little basstards.
  16. Along with an inspiration for all the youngins thinking ... ... hmm ... drugs or sports ... oh hell, I can do both ????
  17. To EV or NOT ... as with all things, housing & wives. Sometimes better to rent first, to see if it's for you. "Rent a Hatchback, Sedan, Executive car, SUV, Pick-up truck, Van, E-Scooter, E-Bike, EV and many more models for you to choose from to meet all your lifestyles. You can rent and pick up your car 24 hours a day at more than 1,000 locations throughout Thailand." https://www.haupcar.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwyerpBRD9ARIsAH-ITn9Df5wUUeC9_TfhEJPVGJfUtI_T8HZYOFQRzEOxlQt2M4Guo0qWCREaAkvqEALw_wcB&https://www.haupcar.com/&gclid=Cj0KCQiA1sucBhDgARIsAFoytUvDEsF4YNu-xpfybFsj4HIfp687H3cqVYUNEIeTTkkFA1MzJ2SbvJgaAji_EALw_wcB
  18. EV Station PluZ (CS app) is CC payment only. EVolt, & EA Anywhere are also CC payment only. So we'll be giving them a pass. Didn't realize EV Station was CC only, till we got there ???? along with a crappy lunch. Oh well ... everyday can't be bliss ???? MG & PEA Volta will do for now, and plenty about. Surprisingly, easier to find than petrol station w/ E85 ????
  19. Talent & drugs don't seem to be an issue for many... Mike Tyson Robert Downey Jr Jimi Hendrix Keith Richards Benjamin Franklin Vincent Van Gogh Darryl Strawberry Andre Agassi
  20. Yes ... follow the science, as so many on AN have stated the past couple years ????
  21. Actually there is plenty to do, just like any other country. Doing it us UP2U NO ... there's no real amusement parks, zoos, theater, western music concert. All of which I stopped or wouldn't go to anyway, in the USA, since a Yank. Did that as a youngin', didn't bother with the t-shirt. Left that silliness behind 22+ yrs age ... now here in TH. Other considerations, what is your retirement. My first 16 yrs was raising my daughter, so O&A were only possible before she was 5 yrs, and during school breaks, 3 months a year. Simply living kept one busy. Others don't have a family, so more time on their hands, which without more funds available, may require one to self entertain to keep expenses low. Some hobbies are easy and inexpensive to have, some not so. Doing the same everyday, would be as boring as doing nothing everyday. Some are quite happy just chillin', others need to be busy most of the day/week. Some, depending on age, health, are limited to less physical things. Some have addictions, alcohol and or sex, or that is their hobbies, and are their vices or pleasures to deal with. I've enjoy sitting around doing absolutely nothing at times. Other times I'm scuba diving, bungee jumping, trekking, cycling. Earlier days of retirement, though still cycle, locally. Now more photography, from car, on foot, or from above, operating drones. Throw in some farming, gardening, more watching the wife do most of. Cooking from scratch, is extremely enjoyable, delicious and damn healthy as a bonus. All time consuming, planning & shopping. Then there's the O&As, local & over the road, along with visits to daughter, now living in Krung Thep, since no real work for her locally where we are. It's simply called living ... and enjoying what YOU enjoy.
  22. News Flash folks ... BG was NOT charged with simple possession. She was charged and found guilty of smuggling (attempt to). Simple possession, is a fine and slap on the wrist in RU. "In August, a Russian court found Griner guilty of attempting to smuggle illegal narcotics into the country" https://www.thecut.com/2022/12/russia-arrests-wnba-star-brittney-griner-on-drug-charges.html#:~:text=According to the New York, years in a penal colony.
  23. 1) not good for USA defense contractors' profits 2) not good for USA fossil fuel corporations' profits 3) not good for USA int'l air carriers' profits Politicians have puppeteers / corporations they MUST answer to.
  24. Yea, but does Krung Thep ... oops, sorry, I'll dumb it down.... Does Bangkok come with mash ? ????
  25. UK = United Kingdom ???? If you have any interest in EV (Electric Vehicles), the kWh (kilowatt hrs/hours) & TOU (Time of Use), meter that charges different rates at different times of the day, then you would, should already know those terms. If all else fails, Google is your friend. kWh = kilowatts per hour, charged by PEA, that would be the same on your PEA bill, or units used. Unit being 1 kWh. Usually between 2-3-700 kW or units used. To calculate how much, without TOU meter, normal charge, this calculator comes in handy, and very accurate: https://eservice.pea.co.th/EstimateBill/ Just type in how many units (kWh), and click to button, and scroll down to see the damage. Something like the MG ZS or EP, comes with a 50.3 kW battery. So if about a ฿5ish per kW/unit of PEA at the house (not having solar), then about ฿250 for a 0-100% top up. If having a TOU meter, then can cut that cost almost in half, by charging 'off' hours. Which I haven't a clue what those hrs are, or care, as we have solar.
