Shocking Incident in Jomtien: Man Chases Tourist, with Large Knife
KhunLA replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
Shocking ... I think not, as doesn't it happen about once or twice a month. In the news anyway. Any luck it will happen more often, then maybe the tourist will start behaving -
If I'm still above ground, nothing will be different. And all the items in OP, good for headlines, but nothing will change, and none will affect me.

Bangkok Bank Now Doing FATCA
KhunLA replied to kingstonkid's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Probably already stated, but nothing new about that, along with the FBAR reporting, if you let your account total $10k at any time. Why I put it in the wife's account every 3 months. One less thing to file and be bothered with. Although still poor enough, not to file anything at tax time off topic ... I filed a FBA in 2020, with a notation (which I should have omitted), stating too poor to file a 1040 ... but feel free to verify. Should have left that part out. They did send a notice, they were going to file 1040 for me. 2022, got a letter stating, processing the 1040 was delayed, and will advise. 2024, got a letter stating 1040 completed, and yes, you're too poor to file. Four years for them to complete a 1040, and people wonder how they are so inefficient and a waste of tax payers money. -
You can always pay more, but not necessary, or possibly any better quality. My kid got a decent education, at what I thought was terrible private school (grade & high school) at Udon Thani, although the better schools in that area. If living in Udon, the best value probably. More than enough for entrance exams for Unis, and she had her pick of any one that she applied at. Went with Thammasat, as having good marketing department. Paid off, then interning & then working at Lazada on their premium accounts. Then to another company doing the same, and now at a better company, being compensated much better, for doing the same. All on her initiative and drive, as she applied herself during covid, when they suspended students doing mandatory internship for grades. She did it any way, and at the company she wanted to work for. 6 or 9 months of 'unpaid' interning. 12 tto 15 hour days, between school & work/interning. You can pay as much as you want, need as much impressive income as required for your kids education, but if they don't apply themselves, it wasted money. They had elementary international kindergarten at Udon, for some silly 100k price, I think. 100k, to learn alphabet, numbers, maybe, sing & nap time Her Uni only cost about 40k a year, but living expense was 30k a month. She was actually spending more money than wife & myself per month. Mostly due to condo rental & transport, till we gave her the car, as not worth selling, when we upgraded. As stated earlier, she makes enough now (100k month) to buy housing, car & save. Not really impressive income, middle class, but add her partners, (100k) and their sitting pretty good, for DINKs.

Seems OP bought a scooter he can't handle, or knows how to drive, let alone drive defensively. Although if even close to factual, more than enough distractions while cruising through soi 6. Maybe a 3 wheel mobility scooter in the future, you won't fall over, and bruise your ego as easiy ... after you wake up from you fantasy dream.

I can relate to that ... when living Udon, school aged wee one, and was out of town as much of the 3 months of school break as possible. Even now, just the wife & myself, every month I need to go somewhere for a long week. During the week even, need to explore locally for a new coffee shop, restaurant or view.

We're talking salary & living expense. If you have the visa already, that doesn't figure into monthly income & expenses, or monthly salary needed to be impressive. Definitely not needed to live in TH, unless paying a large mortgage, and new cars every year or 2, financed. Is this just another thread for you to tell people how fortunate you are ? Not that others are not, but just don't repeat it over & over. We're far from going native. Just don't need to disclose our finances, besides what is asked. Stating a kid need 100k a month to live on is silly, and simply self serving your ego. IMHO Have a pleasant day

Good Company For Moving From Thailand To South America
KhunLA replied to LOG54's topic in General Topics
Since really vague query, I wouldn't expect too many replies. Where to in AR, or is that not decided yet. Door to door, and shipping dock to shipping (storage) dock. When is the move, definite time, as I won't pass shipper info along if their time is going to be wasted. -
Put my daughter through Uni ... if that counts. Which in TH, is quite inexpensive. Raised 2 kids (GF's) in USA, for a few years, involving paying for a private school, since govt school sucked. Uni was cheap in TH, and only real cost was housing & living expense, since Uni in BKK, and wife & myself at PKK. Until Uni, you simply feed & clothe the wee ones, and very inexpensive. Certainly not 100k a month, and more like 10k, if that.

to the topic ... is that even possible ? If your lonely in Patts, then you'd probably be lonely where ever you are. Too many people speak English in Patts, for anyone to be lonely, as language barrier shouldn't really be an issue. If referring to expats, I really can't see an introvert, leaving their comfort zone of home country, to live in a foreign country. Unless it's only about sex & P4P, and no social or relationship skills to get their freak on without paying. Lonely and living alone are greatly different. I'm far from an introvert, but also, not a very social person. Simply don't have a need to be around people, and function much happier in a quiet, private relationship, or alone.

MAGA, has nothing to do with me, or my state of mind. Or that I think people should just use a little caution while on holiday. Or that PoPo can't really investigate a pickpocketing event. They really do have better things to do. Me & MAGA ... I don't live there, left 25 yrs ago, and could give a sh!t what happens there. Matter of fact, Keep America Crappy works for me, as the worse it is there, the better it is for me. So your statement made no sense on a few issues. Trump & MAGA are just a wee bit irrelevant to the topic, and only spewed from the deranged folks, filled with hate. You have yourself a wonderful day

Steak = beef, chicken, pork or fish ... and yea, beef wouldn't be my first choice 😄 Your experience seems to be unique. The few times I've been to, I'm amazed how much Thais can pile on those little plates. I've even heard .... some folks order an meat entrée, then pig out on the salad bar, and take the meat entrée away. Now that's thrifty ...

After Krung Thep, an overnight pit stop at Samut Songkhram after a Chiro visit, then Kanchanaburi, to chill a bit, before some more chillin' at Kaeng Krachan. Taking the scenic route, after a munch & shopping at Hua Hin. Hit a nice surfside place at Sam Roi Yot for sweet tooth fix & coffee. SRY.mp4

Location dependent of course, but ฿100k a month (BKK), would allow for decent mortgage, car payment and ability to save a bit. Using daughter as example .. ... her out of BKK townhouse is ฿15k all in, so in BKK, ~฿30K ... her car payment is ฿15k (Atto 3) for 4 yrs, then no cost for transport afterwards, except minimal charging at home. So ~50% for basics, the rest is just common sense living within her budget and saving/investing. Has a partner with like salary, so sitting pretty, as DINKs. He doesn't drive, and she doesn't drive to work.

That's her goal, follow my plan, and a chip of the ol' man. Got her own online business going, and started RE investing, with 2 rental properties already. Her partner has a nice salaried job also, he's in banking. Shooting to retire around the 50 yr old mark. Another 25 years and the mortgages will all be paid off by then. -
Yea, same with GT, been there, don't that, nothing really new to see, I think. Last time there, 2009, didn't do the slow ride, journey more important than destination, like we do now. Seen the White Wat, want to peek at the Blue one. Brother was there last week, and some nice snaps or. Hit some nice viewpoint guesthouses along the way. Saw a 'Micky Stotch' YT vid that peeked my interest for a revisit to the area. Did CM a few times during covid & last year. Passed up on CR when doing Nan area, so will peek at CR again soon. Don't like being away from the house for more than 10-14 days, so will just be slow ride up to & back CR and GT. Least time along the border towns. Though haven't done much research yet.

Tuesdays 2 for 1 scoops, doesn't get any better. Was a regular, till last year, when didn't renew member card. Will renew soon, as miss it, and just try to keep my visits monthly, instead of weekly. Along with 2 scoops instead of 4
