China Halts Critical Exports as Trade War Intensifies
KhunLA replied to placeholder's topic in Political Soapbox
Actually, there really wasn't any need for USA to get involved in the European part of WW2, as Russia, and the resistance of the other countries was finally taking it's toll against the Nazis. USA involvement did speed it up, just a bit, but really wasn't necessary. June 6 1944, a bit late to the game. Not to mention, USA supported Germany in the early days. Europe WW 2 over May 8, 1945, and less than 1 year later. Less than 1 week after Russia took Berlin to end it. Russia had it well under control, and defeated Germany, not the USA, not the British, but 'evil Russia'. Did help of course that Germany was dumb enough to try to fight 2 fronts ... oops. Y'all might want to stop watching the propaganda movies. They are for entertainment, not documentaries. -
Thailand’s Songkran Road Death Toll Reaches 100 After Just Three Days
KhunLA replied to Georgealbert's topic in Thailand News
3 day & 100 dead ... simply proves holiday driving deaths 'on average' daily death count, is safer than the rest of the year Possibly dated info, as 18+k seems a bit low. But average of 33 a day, is actually good, sadly -
A cry for help, to the Universe, from Planet Earth.

In my Universe, don't seem to have any of those problems. Read about all those problems, but don't experience them in 'my world'. Just another beautiful day ... -
China Halts Critical Exports as Trade War Intensifies
KhunLA replied to placeholder's topic in Political Soapbox
When someone invades your country, that's the only war worth fighting, dying for. As a Yank, that hasn't happened in over 80+ years. So can't think of any war or conflict, of late, that the USA was involved in, that was worth dying for. Or simply wasn't about money -
China Halts Critical Exports as Trade War Intensifies
KhunLA replied to placeholder's topic in Political Soapbox
Big profits for big business is never worth dying for. That's what most of the latest conflicts are all about. Starting wars to sell weapons, to have fake oil shortages, to drive up prices. Nothing but more profits, at the cost of misery & death for those in the crossfire. War because another county doesn't want to export to you, or because they compete on the world market with cheaper & better products. Oh yea, lets all go to war to protect their profits Send the CEO's family and the politician's family to the front line first, and see all wars stop, or ... ... never start 😎 -
Dread air travel, and had my fill of long flights, as anything over 2hrs. Add the hassle of to and from, along with hours needed to arrive early for check ins ... NO THANKS We stay local, 1 country, as 15+ year of plane travel was enough, and most before 9/11 security BS. Only flew international 2X since 9/11, and what a nightmare, 3+ hours from arrival at airport to take off. Crap services now, and silly pricing. Limited allowed checked & carry on luggage. No place, now, is worthy of the hassles of air travel to visit, for me. Aside from the expense, as airfare alone, to & from is more than we'd usually speed for our week long outings locally. The added convenience of self driving vs more hassles of hired car or relying on public trans ... again, NO THANKS ENJOY whatever & where ever, just int'l travel isn't for us. HAPPY TRAVELS

China Halts Critical Exports as Trade War Intensifies

Keith Bradsher has been called out before for 'fake news'. And every news source that is reporting the same, seems to cite the NYT for the info source 🙄 The 'Echo Chamber' at work. Until China reports the same, or supply chain is noticeably affected, then I take this as just more 'FAKE NEWS' Saying that, I'd love to see China do just that -
@jacko45k just seems to be one of those rest stops without vendors. Good for a P & nap. https://www.google.com/maps/place/จุดพักรถ+มาบประชัน+1/@12.9479624,100.958206,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sCIABIhAGbzzgIgns92fQc9wABI-4!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh3.googleusercontent.com%2Fgps-cs-s%2FAB5caB9pQ1XuHx_dVhWVuGNGGwOhO_t6_4RDZtbr6fqWkegj5-FEoXYmNRblAbQiCy_ZLkoo4Q7RWg6Nf-z4kl1kF__0mXwjQOU8OQTU7IGCZNMaILZhpi9hd4s9xHCa6zzE4JSsoDX7zI4LTMgX%3Dw86-h86-k-no!7i2448!8i2448!4m11!1m2!2m1!1smabprachan+1+rest+stop!3m7!1s0x3102bf0009337359:0xbe79c66f61cf4015!8m2!3d12.9479137!4d100.9582772!10e5!15sChZtYWJwcmFjaGFuIDEgcmVzdCBzdG9wkgETdG9sbF9yb2FkX3Jlc3Rfc3RvcOABAA!16s%2Fg%2F11w35v8c2t?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDQwOS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

Sauerkraut is easy. Go easy on the spices in kimchi, as the flavor intensifies quickly over a short time. Make a smaller batch of the latter, to start.

SUVs, choices and reviews please. Haval H6 thoughts?
KhunLA replied to planemad's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
No experience with H6, but really nice specs, and looks damn nice. If not going full BEV, something to consider, then H6 would be something I'd be looking at. From your post, (1,8 or turbo), then I assume you want a bit of performance. A hybrid or BEV will definitely give you that, as instant torque with electric motors. Since having a Camry now, guess you don't need a full size SUV, so again, BEV, might want to take a peek at BYD Atto3, daughter and very nice. We have MG ZS EV, and very happy with that. Options abound as of late. BYD & MG with well established dealer networks. GWM / HAVAL dealers expanding quickly. Lots of hybrids & BEV. HEV, limited all electric, more for performance & fuel economy. PHEV, plenty of electric for local running around. BEV .. never buy petrol again 👍 -
To the Title ... ... ask me next month, as planning about a 10 day O&A. Southward, Phang Nga & Krabi areas, so far. Pit stop at Surat Thani, as like to keep the 1st day under 5 hrs, then 1 - 2 - 3 hrs stretches of driving afterward.

Except last time I added money to it, I think they asked me for my passport, ID. May be because my last name (legal) is a Thai name, as I changed it to the wife's when I got married. Probably thought I was using someone else's already.

I used to hop on every new line, or extension or, for just sightseeing. So crowded now, I don't using at all. @impulse I'll need to have my MRT card reauthorized again, as haven't used in a while. Also grandfathered in. Though would prefer the cancel it and give me a refund. I'll probably give it to my daughter, and she'll have to use, incognito, till it's empty.

Nestlé Wins Legal Battle Over Nescafé Rights in Thailand

That stuff is vile. Switch to Moccona, Birdy, Super ... anything but that. Prefer their Hazelnut flavored when making a pitstop at 7-11 when O&A ... tasty stuff -
Credit card fees
KhunLA replied to CallumWK's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I also have a 'cash management' account card w/Fidelity. Been with them since the 80s. That's where my pension goes, and actually lived off that last yet, while banking my whole Soc Sec DD @ BBL, actually wife's BBL to avoid filing FBAR. SS is more than enough for ret visa extension. Daily limit @ $500, which is fine, since pension is only $357, since I took it way early Strangely, haven't touched either yet, and still living off some leftover baht from last year. Also haven't taken any long O&A this year. After Songkran, out the door for a nice one, planning now. -
So this thread is just total BS. As nothing in the news blip states 'triple' fare. You obviously never use the rail lines, or you'd know there is no 80 baht fare. Until recently, with the expanded lines, the highest fare was 45 baht. Seniors like myself, (60+) got half fare on MRT line, which I think has been discontinued for non Thais. Highest on BTS is 62, MRT is 71, I think. Unlimited day pass for all is still 150 baht. Use to get that, no matter where I was going, then give it to a Thai person, at the end of my journey day. I don't use them myself any more, as simply too crowded. Gave my BTS card to daughter, still have MRT card, and will give that to her next time I see her. A 20 baht fare will really make them too crowded, and a good thing, as some may benefit, instead of being on the roads.

You first ... 😎 or do you already walk everywhere ?

Crystal clear down here, PKK, though no mystery why. Had about 2 weeks of rain already, some of it, major downpours. All water tanks (12) topped up & beyond. No drought worries this year. Since always concerned about our carbon footprint ... Wife took the 'no open fires' warning a bit serious and beyond. Oh no, not a block or stone circle, or even barrel, to burn our trash. It deserves it own oven / kiln. Even without the finishing touches, door & chimney, it burns damn near smoke free. For others, if caring, Google 'smoke free barrel', may be an easier option. At very least, burn your plastic bags ... Save a Turtle From surfside about an hour ago ... VS a bad day, and thankfully we don't get too many of those, compared to most point North of us. 5 Feb 2020

This is spot on how most Yanks think, and the reality, being under 50 years old, and trying to raise a kid or 2, while simply being an employee for a company that really could care less about you. Why only half the income earners pay less than 4% income tax, and what govt, the markets do, they don't care about. Everyday life and what's left over in the pocket at the end of the month is all that matter, for far too many. Sadly, their 'education' has done nothing more than teach them how to be an 'employee' The 30% above that 50% of income earners, simply have a bit better job, and might actually be able to 'own' a home, or a new car. Still trying to save though, since probably owning to many 'look at me' things. Tope 20% can relax, and can even afford to be sick https://www.facebook.com/reel/1162876258491776

If there was an election outside of the USA, would you care ?
KhunLA replied to SLOWHAND225's topic in Political Soapbox
I'm a Yank, and I don't care about elections in the USA, or anywhere else. They have very little effect on my life, though good to simply pay attention. When Bush 2 got appointed, I moved my stock buying to speculative oil stocks. Bit of no brainer. Aside from info to use while investing, they're irrelevant to everyday living.
