  1. All depends how old the OP is, and why to invest. If 65, and expect to live till 80, just spend an extra 10k on what makes you smile every month. And with no interest, the 1.8m will last you 15 yrs. Or park it in a nice, safe 5-8-10% return, and play with that every month, after the 1st year. Can't take it with you, spend it.
  2. You can do your 90 day anywhere. Does Patts imm require a test for 90 day? That's enough reason to leave Patts.........forever.
  3. As do we all ... ???? All kind of simple to me ... if you want and EV, go buy one. If you don't, well then that's simple, don't buy one. Save the excuses / reasons to buy or not to buy. You definitely aren't going to talk anyone into either buying or not. Financially, post some numbers, as might help some decide, cost analysis, pro & con, although since a new market, resell / trade in value after 8 yrs is still a question mark. I'm in the wait & see, before springing the extra 5 or 600k baht to change car into EV. If I live long enough, as at least 5 yrs away before resale value of EVs will be known. You can't talk about your morality, care for the planet, but not if you drive more than the bare necessity to live, or if you drive at all. Did you drive on holiday, fly to other side of the planet for holiday ... stop being a hypocrite, you don't care about the planet. And it doesn't care about you. If arguing 'save the planet' or energy to charge is not green, or batteries produced not green, then yes or no, depending of 'opinions' and BS from vested interests, and frankly, none can be trusted. The planets fine, been around forever, and will be here long after the human parasites self extinct. If and when the industries go 'green', probably not until they run out of oil ???? then our great great grandchildren can argue about which is better. By that time, the fake MMGW may have gone up 1/2 to 1C .... maybe, but doubtful. Not that I care. But for us, it's a work in progress, or stalled progress, until fossil fuels are extinguished, whichever you believe, but, it's irrelevant, because none of us has any control.
  4. Yep, lack of their ignorant tourist customer base destroyed their market share. Along with all the other vendors that price gauged and lived off the overflow of better, well priced vendors.
  5. Or terrible, as nobody in the family has a clue how to cook or run a restaurant.
  6. That would be my choice. If I get the flu or any contagion, I don't go out and announce it to everyone. Though won't socialize or risk passing it on, if knowing or suspecting. That's rude.
  7. You're living with her parents, and you want to go back to the USA and live with your mom ? OK ... and you are how old ?
  8. To test yourself before getting an 'officially requested / mandatory' test, so you are not surprised by a forced unscheduled expensive private hospital holiday.
  9. You might want to lead with that next time. Bank won't transfer the loan, unless buyer (minor / don't think so), or guardian qualifies for the loan. If they'll do it at all. No matter, the kid will have no control of property till 20 yrs old. If trying to avoid mother having control, you can't.
  10. Land office has the info, and will provide it. That info being what they will assess the tax on, land, house, size, 1 or more stories. It's actually fairly accurate, and ballpark value of land/house.
  11. In the comments of linked 'explosion' vid ... adds quite a bit to the story, and no wonder Tesla didn't want to touch it, or the 22k price tag to repair ... "Hydraulic Press Channel 8 days ago (edited) As an part of the team who delivered the "explosion and filming service" to the car owner I can confirm that the owner didn't have any monetary goals with this, he was just <deleted> ????The whole explosion + clean up + filming then on the other hand motivated and paid by clicks and seems that it's going to make more money than the car was worth. after batteries + motors were sold off. Which is crazy but something that I was pretty sure about. And to be honest the Pommijätkät version of the video, that has gotten the most press coverage, didn't have all of the story. The car's battery was already changed by third party repair shop and there was a water leak on new battery. So third party battery that has been compromised isn't probably the best case ever for Tesla service. But I am not sure how much that would been affecting the repair bill or Tesla's willingness to repair the car. Also the car was imported from US to EU that might also lower the support from Tesla. I had the whole thing on my video but I think it wouldn't make any different on news articles since it's too long and complicated for average reporter and consumers ???? I am not sure what I think about the whole thing. My goal was just to make good entertainment and I think that we succeed on that goal. I had some fears of video generating lot of fake news but the coverage has been quite honest and good so far and I think it's good to get some visibility to the problem of repairing the batteries now before we have lot of EV's that start to be so old that there is more battery related problems than new cars have. Also I want to point out that I don't have anything against Tesla or EVs in general. I drive 2020 Model S and have owned quite much stock for some years. I am really pleased on my car and even more pleased on returns that the stocks have got so far ???? "
  12. How many times are people going to post this. A guy buys a used, old, out of warranty, c r a p Tesla, drives it for all of 1500 kms, then blows it up .... and surely his YT channel didn't suffer from that. Gets a price to replace the battery, instead of replacing cells needed to be. Think he bought the car for 1 reason, and wasn't to drive it for a few years.
  13. Tricky for an inexperienced Thai driver. I can handle anything, and nothing could surprise me. I used to excel at trying to kill myself on 2 wheels.
  14. From BKK, first 4 hours are boring as hell, until getting to Sam Roi Yot area, then some nice view of the hills to the west and limestone karsts. Rest of PKK province is nice, and beyond. Taking a few days, or a long week, makes it quite enjoyable. Use to have 3 months off a year, school breaks. Then last 4 yrs, kid in Uni, so truly retired, to go anywhere, anytime. Took advantage of covid & no tourists on Phuket, as would never have returned without covid. Should remain nice for next 3 yrs, I'm guessing, before mass tourism even has a chance or returning, and that's without any further oops. I suspect it will be a very long 'war on viruses' ... great for me, bad for tourist area vendors.
  15. Got fired from a few jobs, though didn't stick around most long enough to get fired. Fired from one, so HR guy could hire his nephew. Was talking to my replacement, without realizing, and 'told me his Uncle hired him'....next thing I know, I'm in the office, and told work to slow, so I'm done. Know that's false, but I was the newest hire, less than a week, so wouldn't stir up a fuss with other workers. Fired from 2 other jobs, because I wasn't there ... out looking for better job ???? 1 job, supervisor asked buddy working there, and he wasn't thinking, as thought the boss was a friend, 'where's LA' ... 'out looking for new job' ... 'tell him not to come back'???? Other one was, my boss so impressed with me, recommended me for top job, more senior people wanted and I got it. When him & his boss flew down to tell me, I wasn't there and the place was a mess. So he had to fire me to save face. Hated doing it, but I asked if I could make a long distance call, after we got done our friendly chat. "Hello, this is LA, I can start next week" .... he couldn't stop laughing. Doubled my salary with that move.
  16. EVs ... Tesla, top selling model car in the EU, whether EV or ICE. Say quite a bit, since Tesla does virtually no marketing.
  17. Depends where you're visiting on Phuket. If Patong, then maybe. Not where the OP holidays at, as a bit HiSo on the northern part of the island. Much better than what I see walking around HH at times, and HH being a bit of a slum itself, w/mediocre beach, which I wouldn't swim in.
  18. About time they concentrate on the domestic market ... Seems the only businesses, countrywide, that survived during the 'situation' were the ones savvy enough to target the local market all along.
  19. Actually they're all kind of big, meaning the platforms are a little wider than I expect (never owned scooter) since use to H. Sonic & Wave. So your legs are spread a bit further, which for some Thais, would definitely kill a sale. I almost didn't buy mine (SUSU) because of that, and sales rep noticed my apprehension, so wheeled one out to test ride. SOLD ???? and all I did was run around the parking lot with it. That was enough. I'm 175cm, not the longest legs, but comfy at stops. Wife has to extreme tippy toe. SUSU is their 'largest', but sitting on the rest, and not much difference. They all feel like they sit 'tall / wide', and not what I was used to. Use to legs hugging the motor, and straight down when stopped. Being in a seated / chair like position took a few kms to get use to.
  20. Nah, no need, though am curious if ever infected. Probably waste of 49 baht, as haven't had a sniffle in years. If positive I could do a "Got Covid & Survived" t-shirt, or, "Got Covid & Never Knew" ????
  21. This, last, and next couple months are 'high season', and the Phuket surf is lovely. May to Oct, not so lovely, to downright deadly, if swimming in. Unless you surf, then might get a 10-20 second ride. I live on the Gulf side, about 1 hr south of HH, and TBO, rarely swim in. It's c r a p compared to Andaman Sea. Lovely to look at though, most times, and gets rough also, like now and all of last month. I go surfside every day with the dog. Yea, it's a bit of a drive, HH - N. Phuket, about 10 hrs, but lovely once past PKK province into Chumphon & Surat Thani. PKK, southern end looks nice also. Easily broken into 3 days of driving, w/2 overnights. One overnight at Thung Wua Laen beach (#2 favorite swimmer's beach), with pitstop at Ban Krut beach (#1 Gulf beach) on the way to TWL beach, maybe a lunch stop, 2hr S of HH. Second overnight at Ratchaprapha Dam area, or longer if wanting to overnight on the lake. Breaks it up, less than 4 hrs driving each day. Roads are excellent, and wife would have no problem driving them. Very relaxing way to drive down. Actually road time, not much different than flying; 3hr to airport, 2h check, 1.5 hr flight, short hr out the door to hotel on Phuket, knocking on 7 hrs vs a great adventure to Un-seen Thailand or shy of 10 hrs if driving straight through or fly ???? Change it up every year. Been doing it for 20+ yrs myself. Udon Thani - Phuket 2x, for 12 ish years, w/pit stops along the way. Last 10 yrs avoided Phuket, too many tourist, though revisited 3 times this past 1.5 yrs during Covid and the best ever. Last 10 years, southward, usually didn't make it past Thung Wua Laen or Ban Krut. A few times looping around Phattulung, Satun, Krabi, Surat Thani, Ranong, and avoiding Ao Nang, Krabi & Phuket due to mass tourism. Been great since covid though. You definitely need to get out & about, if based in either HH or Phuket. Again, roads are excellent, and your wife will have no issue. Plenty of coffee / pastry stops with a view along the way. Mine handles them, the roads just fine, and didn't drive a car till she met me, and about same age as your wife (45).
  22. If you're going to compare, used vs new is a poor comparison. Lets go new Super Ace & Honda Wave 125i, about same price ฿53,000 @ 50 kpl and drive 30 kms a day. (my daily routine) ICE @ ฿30 a liter, that's ฿6500 a year for petrol. EV @ ฿5 per 100 kms = ฿550 a year ฿6000 savings a year X 8.8 yrs = ฿52,800, and the EV is free. 30 X 365 = 10,950 kms X 8.8 yrs = 96,360 kms EV battery good for 1200 cycles 1200 X 80 kms = 96,000 with still plenty of battery left at 80% capacity
  23. She wasn't attacked, or she'd be dead. Just accidently stepped on. Pretty cool adventure if you as me. No need to close the trail, just warn campers. Wild animals in the wild ... go figure.
  24. A New Year, and a new 'flavor / virus' of the month. A hybrid ... exciting stuff ..... Flurona .... Let the fear monging, and another shot sales promo begin ... ???? OK, not a new virus, just a 'dual' infection ... surely they'll milk it for all the profits they can. Booster # 5 - 6 - 7 Falls in line with whatever they can come up with to increase sales. This follows “Delmicron,” Another snappy name, another reason for another booster.
