  1. With exception to entering 7-11 or Makro locally, I haven't worn a mask since day 1 of the 'situation' during my normal daily routines. Only when visiting Krung Thep, and the same, to enter vendors or ride public trans, though always with nose uncovered. Never felt at risk, to myself, or others.
  2. Free market, capitalism, competition ... it's a beautiful thing.
  3. It's better now, but still not something I'd take the family to. Phuket wins hands down for family seaside holiday, just not Bangla rd, which is a very small part of the island.
  4. My thinking also, if knowing you'll be there. At worse, sell for cost, and you've lived rent free, which is one of most folks', largest monthly expense. ???????? If making a profit, well then, all the better.

    Double Glazing

With today's tinting tech, not sure double is necessary. Agree with the fresh renewing post, avoid the sun is best to begin with. Should be first consideration when practical.
  6. It's all relative. Quite sleepy compared to Patts and Patong. But busier than many other seaside towns. I still wouldn't consider it a vibrant holiday location, since more family & geriatric people holiday there. News-blip does point out; "Hua Hin isn’t, and probably never will be, Miami, Ibiza, Phuket or even Koh Samui." A very good thing, as the infrastructure can't keep up with the present congestion.
  7. To the news-blip, these are contradictary statments; "It remains one of the world's 'fastest-growing economies' and owning property in Thailand has been a fashionable way to profit from the nation's rise." "Thailand Property Market Index, the Price Index of Bangkok 'residential property has been decreasing' since Q4 2020." "This year, developers will 'cautiously consider new projects' which have to cater for domestic real demand." ????
  8. You may want to look in the mirror. My original reply, about the OP, was OT. My other replies were to folks, including yourself, on off topic replies brought up by yourselves. Have a nice day...Peace Out
  9. Point out my rant about the USD. My reply to dj230 was about the govt's mishandling of the budget. Someone else, IamFarang brought up the USD. Now you bring up assets vs USD. None of which I mentioned, or even care about. Back OT ... IMHO, btc has peaked, and is simply on a roller coaster ride due to pump & dump. As seen in this thread. On a downward spiral, while all invested, trying to convince everyone it's a good future investment. 44k to 30k in 3 month & Loss 33% since OP posted. Down 50 % from it's high. Would have to go up 100 % to recover. Good luck with that. From my experience in the markets, that is very rare to happen. It is on a down curve, so may gain a bit, but if someone like Elon Musk comes out again with a negative opinion or statement, it will drop once again. High risk investment IMHO. After it gets back down to its 10-15k range, where it was for a few years, then it might be worth taking a look at again. Reading the chart, and that appears where it's headed .... IMHO
  10. Haven't a clue, as don't really follow the markets any more. I know land in Thailand is the only asset for me & wife to invest in. It never goes down. "Buy land, they're not making it anymore." - Mark Twain
  11. ASEAN doesn't care what the USA thinks or wants. Never did, never will. ASEAN needs all that China provides, and nothing that the USA offers. ASEAN will assure the USA of their cooperation, take their money, then do nothing to offend China.
  12. And ... ... people will believe anything they are told. With a debt that high, and more going out than coming in, that's called bankruptcy in my world. Since I'm a Yank, and they want to say the USD has value, I'm happy, but not ignorant. And my comment had nothing to do with the USD, just that the govt is run by self serving idiots. They borrowed from and depleted a self funding Soc Sec fund to the point in insolvency in 10ish years. Then what are they going to do ... borrow more money to pay their debt. You try that at the bank next time you can't pay your mortgage. See if they extend you more credit, or foreclose.
  13. You mean a Govt that doesn't know how or care to balance a checkbook.
  14. I was curious, OP posted 15 Feb 2022 ... in CADs, but USD chart
  15. Yea...all those Thai reports of faulty Ora Good Cats, and how many have actually been delivered ? Same with the new MG EP Pluses ... how many delivered in Thailand ? Can't be that many 'true' reports out there. IF ANY Always that friend of a friend's cousin who read it on the internet. Why would anyone buy a Tesla, I hear the owners are blowing them up, they are so frustrated ????
  16. Here's the not so fine print, from another news-blip. Why would anyone who fits these, even consider living in Thailand:
  17. Thanks ... Sort of on hold, till new house is done. Drone laws are a pain, and rental is too residential, along with too close to an airfield. Get out there once in while.
  18. Actually OT, sort of, as cookie cutter houses in gated communities, you get limited selection or options. Plenty of photos of the build here: https://goo.gl/photos/69JVYh4LtQF8rixM6 Practical part of our house was, rectangle, built longwise, E-W, and with patios on both side, no sun exposure on house walls. Open second 2nd floor, shaded, again, limited sun exposure. Main reason being, we didn't need the space, but having daughter, and JIC, coming home with child, could easily throw up some walls, drop a ceiling, and she would then have her own 160 m² living area. Mostly glass wall was N, so rarely had sun exposure, and for limited time, and only due to earth's axis part of the year. South wall, can't see was protected, as a storage & outdoor kitchen ran the length of that side of the house. None of that, you could do in a gated community. No neighbors, so we could burn whatever, when ever we liked. Anything not going to the compost pile.
  19. I couldn't live in a gated community, with an 'association' dictating rules. Or simply have a cookie cutter house. My last house wouldn't have been approved anywhere with such rules. Nor would our present build, though not as unique as last one, pictured.
  20. Why I left that nanny <deleted>hole state. Borough actually telling me how high I'm allow to grow my lawn. I'll mow the lawn, when I get around to it. This a single house with NO neighbors on the same street, both sides for 50+ meters. They actually came out to cut it, twice. Wasn't a third time, as I hammered a few pieces of rebar in the lawn after the first time ... ????
  21. ... highlighted best with masked drivers of MBs & no helmet ????
  22. Take a stroll in Global House, and you'll see the Thai standard. Our new build, I think most windows & doors are custom made. Countertops, I prefer a little higher than average, since having a not so good back, to avoid bending as much as possible. But have to consider the wife, as using also, and much shorter than myself. I'm only 175cm / 5'9", and closer to 'average' yank. At 6', I would definitely go with custom doorways.
  23. Actually sends out the correct message ... pick another school.
  24. Didn't state or imply that at all or see how you even read that into my reply. Just find it a bit coincidental, that they announce a new law requiring car seats soon, and then we have a headliner, highlighting use of, or lack of car seat. First one/headliner I've ever noticed. What is sad, is parents need a law to require a car seat, or use of seat belt.
  25. No, the King's song. I'm actually glad people are waking up to that silliness. Though worthy of it's own thread for thoughts on.
