Walking around the old quarter going into eateries, curbside restaurants and cafe's would kill a day. To many to list. Get ready to rock n' roll. Visit the old prison where Jon McCain's flight suit is displayed. Walking distance from Hoan Kiem Lake.

Isn't there still an old school cinema right across the street from Kad Suan Kaew in that complex of buildings? I saw a movie there back in 2005 called 'An American Haunting'. I remember it being a private screening. There was nobody else in the entire theater. My Thai Gf hated the movie so we left in the middle. There was also a language school in there where I signed up for classes to get an education visa. I ended up just dropping out and going to Hong Kong if I remember correctly.

Could also be people spending down savings or loans. A lot of business owners hold out thinking things will improve one day. Overconfidence and too attached to the business to make a change.

I used a doctor in the USA that billed the state, even though it was blue cross coverage. They view it as a type of welfare and are paid very little. I think they have to pay to be on the referral list just for the privledge of getting patients from the program. I got substandard care. Just a rushed exam that was a joke and billed for anything possible, including a bunch of blood work tests I did not need. Private insurance is much better. If I had something serious I think I was at risk and would likely die.

Was my favorite in CM. Old school mall. Also had one in Pattaya I liked, Harborland, where I would go to sit and work on the laptop and have a Pepsi. Felt like I was in high school again. Many of them are becoming obsolete as you have mentioned. There is a particular feeling and vibe to them that's hard to explain. They remind me of the 80's. Also they are usually empty and quieter which I like. Thai's don't like them generally. They view certain quiet non-crowded spaces as haunted, or just won't go where lots of other people are not going for some reason.

I wanted to be a rock star or famous artist when I lived in the USA as a man over 50 with no obvious wealth of means... Getting laid was like winning the lottery. Dates were an interview, with the first question being 'what do you do?' and the associated financial means undertone. Approaching anyone in their 20's was a big no-no and likely to lead to arrest. Lots of single guys stroking their pud most of the time around were I was. Some moved, some expatriated to places like Mexico. Some are probably still there watching the years dwindle away their sex drive to the point where it's not a primary concern any longer. I don't hear much about guys getting happily married and moving off, but I think it still happens if they are coming out of college and what have you.

Many of the freelance girls see themselves as a type of guide. Almost like a tour guide. Very similar to the tuk tuk guys that want to drive you everywhere. Nobody from Thailand wants strong independent foreigners here. They want people that need to be shuttled around, catered to, and driven everywhere. It's so extreme that I get looks even doing some yardwork or watering the plants or regularly walking independently around the city. That's how bad it is.

A lot of them may actually be lesbians... The last time I visited California in the USA there seemed to be a lot more gender identity/gay/lesbian/whatever stuff going on. Stuff that was so strange that I have never come across it before. Like women who were having sex changes into men, but wanted to not be addressed with male pronouns because they were really both male & female and a bunch of head games and convoluted stuff like that. The more complicated it was the more they seemed to be into it. More then any time in the past I was asking myself if someone was lesbian or gay or if they had some odd identity issue that I needed to take into consideration in order to not offend, or even how I greeted people. It's not the same space I grew up in during the 70's/80's. I also seemed to be encountering a lot of gay guys. When I grew up that was an oddity and way out there in left field. These days it seems almost 50/50 someone is gay.

Sounds strange, but I have a hard time envisioning Thai guys like moto taxi guys or street shop guys having sex at all. It seems like they don't have sex 🤣 They never seem to check out females visually or approach women. In fact, I never see then even talking to women on the street during daily life unless it's a customer 🤷🏻‍♂️ I could be wrong I suppose, somebody must be doing a lot of it. I think that guy is pretty tired though.

I did that for awhile in the USA, but only for the government surplus distributions. Also, I went later in the day (the real needy people always line up first thing right when it opens). The government food is paid for by your tax dollars, not donated, so there is no reason to not partake (it never really runs out). There was some shame in the scene though, being near a military base and all and seeing military families there was a bit off putting. Of course, they may have understood it was government supplies. Either way, they need to get some real cheese and not that processed junk, it's unhealthy.

Not me, I loved the old malls. Out of curiosity how old are you? Nobody I know who grew up in the 80's or before dislikes malls.

They like driving in circles there. Also, anywhere you need to go is named "Ngoc Gap" so it's easy to get directions.
