Poll: As a Pattaya expat, do you hate the week-long water-splashing Songkran?
What's with the dumb music. Sounds like just drums with no clear vocals, or just continual beats. I guess it's a songkran thing fortunately and not all the time. Is there actually a band playing it? Do they have an album?

Pattaya Beach Road Needs Shade Trees
Weiird, isn't it? It's like people are afraid of the sun here. Contrast with Mexico where everyone is out there sunbathing and playing volleyball all day.

Root canal quote and need Crown
Might want to call them and see. Also, they need a microscope to do good root canals these days. So your first question is do they have the microscope. If not, the dentist is going only by the feel of the files which is very hard to do and they usually don't get all the way to the bottom, it reinfects years later, causes an abcess, etc. I had to have a couple re-done with a microscope later on. Part was left at the bottom of the root that caused an abcess and you can lose the tooth because the bone wastes away under the tooth. There's also a new "hyper-sonic" spray that's done at the conclusion of the procedure into the canal to clear away bacteria. It's an expensive tool, like the microscpe is, so not everywhere will have it. I feel like it helped me when I had mine done with these advanced tools.

Pattaya sees record tourist surge during Songkran
They hear stories about how great it is and end up not liking it once they are here (or at least it does not live up to the hype). The longer they stay, the more they complain. I moved here thinking it was going to be a good party, which I do partake in. I ended up not liking it much. I never vibed with the scene much and my fellow expats are mostly from the Uk, France, etc that I don't relate well with as an American on a partying level. They also seem too old to hang out with, even though I'm mid-50's.

Root canal quote and need Crown
I have seen this mentioned before and it seems to be my experience. Why do you think the multiple visits are so common? Is it a scheduling issue? Or a rushed, disorganized dentist with too many patients?

Root canal quote and need Crown
I went with a white zirconia substructure (strong for molars) and porcelain on the outside (looks like a real tooth). Looks great. Would have gone with full gold but was 36k baht for the full gold so gave it a miss. The full gold crowns are best because they don't need to drill as much of your tooth away to fit the crown. Need to drill away about 1 cm more to fit the zirconia. There was also a silver colored palladium crown similar to gold slightly more expensive then the zirconia, but I did not like the silver color so passed. The full gold crowns are not the same as porcelain fused to gold, as the gold there is an amalgam and oxidizes on the the edge causing decay. It can't be 18k gold because they need the other metals mixed it in order to fuse it with the porcelain. Could go on all day and write a book on it. Hope that helps. My crown was 22k. I advise against places named on this forum. The same places pop up each time and I don't think they are legit reviews. Good luck.

Belgian tourist brutally attacked in Hua Hin, friend seeks justice
What happened afterwards? Did he stick around until the police arrived? How was he caught? Did he say anything afterwards?

Belgian tourist brutally attacked in Hua Hin, friend seeks justice
Where did this happen in Pattaya? How hard was the kick, enought to knock you down?

Belgian tourist brutally attacked in Hua Hin, friend seeks justice
Had you ever seen or interacted with him before the attack? What did he do before/after the attack? Who else was around or in the pool?

Belgian tourist brutally attacked in Hua Hin, friend seeks justice
I guess I could just view it as a new Miami. It's all in the interpretation. I used to think I could find good & cheap if I looked hard enough (cheap paradise). Now I'm pretty much a believer in I get what I pay for. 8 years?? 🤷🏻♂️ I'm not good with dates.

Kad Suan Kaew is closing
So what? It closed. Still relevant. Is there something about the dates that bother you? Does everything have to be brand new? No wonder these older malls are dying.

Kad Suan Kaew is closing
These old school malls are shutting down all over. Enjoy them while you still can. In their place new shiny places like Maya mall, etc. Once the younger crowd stops going it's a death spiral. Most won't go to places that are empty and lack people, even with good stores still there. Sad to see them go. Just changing times. Many good memories in older malls from when I was younger.

Looks like all those party huts and bungalows down by Serendipity Beach are gone. The Happy Pizza shack places likely gone as well.

Belgian tourist brutally attacked in Hua Hin, friend seeks justice
Sihanoukville was the worst I saw in Cambodia. They call them 'deathpats'. People who have washed up in the last place that accepts them. Maybe they have been pushed along by now with the Chinese development. Saw one room with bloody swabs all over on the pillow and bed when looking to rent a room. They seem to be preyed upon by other expats and maybe locals as well. They just go down hill with booze and drugs and end up in a tiny cheap room, usually close to a grungy entertainment area like Victory Hill, or one of those places near the water where there is nothing. Not the same as Pattaya and similar, it's much worse. Strange things blowing in on the wind there, strange smells, especially along deserted dirt roads. Could feel something in the breeze. Felt like...lack of hope, for lack of a better word. Siem Reap and PP was Ok for me if you stay in a decent place.

Pattaya: "Popular" British pensioner gunned down on way home after just returning from UK Xmas visit
People who use gun ranges are typically ultra responsible and overkill on safety. Those would be the last people to worry about.

What happens if old Farang dies in Thailand having made zero preparations? (Better?)
The Op may envision that dying without preparations could be a big hassle. I think the reality is that it's not such a big deal and nobody cares for very long. Even for family it's soon over. For others, someone at an office desk has it sorted over morning coffee. Thanks for playing. Done & dusted.

Not necessarily. There are people in every country who will just shoot. Thailand is not immune. Younger guys, thugs, drunks, psycho's...

Thailand once was the place, now dirty beaches, bad air, cheapo tourists
I think I read in school that there is a mechanism in nature that starts throwing wrenches in when overpopulation happens. Diseases, pandemics, not sure of the others. A way of naturally controlling the population.

Poll: As a Pattaya expat, do you hate the week-long water-splashing Songkran?
It's interesting to read here the negativity surrounding this holiday. I think it's a "too much" scenario. The country already has a fair bit of immaturity and giddyness in popular areas. When a fun holiday is added onto that, it's overkill. Many people will avoid those areas and not participate and look for quiet time, or sit on their balcony with a beer type thing.
