  1. You are a resident of Thailand only in your dreams. In any case it seems like you enjoy complicating your life with a Thai issued credit card instead of going with Wise while getting great exchange rates. Up 2 u
  2. Know what? I was gonna send you the nastiest reply ever, but I just tried adding my credit card and it went through. I remember trying to add a card numerous times in the past 2 years and it specifically said only domestic cards were allowed on shopee. But now it works, so.....
  3. Maybe it allows foreign debit cards, but not foreign credit cards.
  4. This has been repeated so many times and it is simply not correct. First of all the below LOL statement What resident? Can Thailand pls show me my PR or citizenship card where I can claim such privilege? Or are people claiming that just because I spent more than 6 months in a country I am considered a resident? Not in Thailand. To get a card with Wise, you simply get verified with whatever passport you have. I did with my Canadian passport then put my mom's address. If your parents are dead or your friends and family back home hate you, just put any address, like a hotel. After you are done with all the formalities you can apply for a card and put whatever address you want. I had my Wise card delivered to my Bangkok condo - free of charge. And I would just like to say how I am impressed with their app. It is so easy to navigate that any idiot can do it. Their numerous borderless accounts are amazing if you want to open an online shop. Their additional virtual cards which I used numerous times even on platforms like shopee which does not allow foreign credit cards. Not to mention their fraud prevention and customer service will be better than when dealing with a Thai bank. Wise is a God's gift to Farang expat.
  5. Congratulations on getting married
  6. CP has a license to expand 7/11 franchises in Laos and Cambodia. Do Japanese employ secret shoppers to go there also because I find that hard to believe.
  7. Actually you can start one with only 1 million. 7 has several different "packages" depending on how much profits and risk you are after. Some of their packages even include rent. However, this info is from 15 years ago, so..... But when we were looking into opening Amazon 2 years ago, they also had a similar scheme. I think their smallest start up package was below 500k. Of course, this assumes a bank loan. They were guaranteeing 300 cups per day which was a break even point for a small franchise. I pulled out a calculator and if we were to take on a loan and go with the lowest priced package, 2 of us would be making about the same amount as barista. The only upside is that in 5 years the loan would be paid off and profits would be higher. Of course, they could get you on other things, such as required renovations, updates or whatever they want to do.
  8. Definitely better and I think King Power also provides health insurance and provident fund....something she would have to pay herself in the long run if she was her own "boss" at 7
  9. My wife used to work for CP as a 7/11 franchiser. She was a location specialist. She quit that job 15 years ago, but the OP is pretty much correct. The owners would be lucky to clear 30k a month after all expenses, but these expenses would probably include a bank loan. I wanted to open 7/11 out of pure boredom and the fact she could get a franchise on better terms as an ex employee, however, she convinced me that this is extremely hard work and a lot of headache. A better franchise in her opinion would be Amazon coffee, but I really hate their coffee. Some of her friends own 2-3 stores and are doing well. But they had years of training and know everything that there is to know about running this business. My wife is a big fan of Maru Waffle franchise and thinks it's a fun job with not much risk. Also any franchise that deals with ballz....fish ballz, pig ballz, chicken ballz......low fees, free training which can be useful once you decide to un-franchaise yourself.
  10. Asking 3 years later if it is now possible to register sim online with a passport or do they still only accept Thai ID. Any company is fine....true, dtac, ais....whatever
  11. Must be a really stupid movie from a stupid director. What old guy would hang himself bevause his penis won't go up. There are so many other pleasures in life besides zombie sex.
  12. What is fully funded? I have almost million dollars in savings. My wife also works and gets good salary. I don't think this is enough to live in a country where you have to pay for healthcare out of your own pocket and get kicked out if you don't satisfy immigration requirements which become more difficult as you get older. As for a younger wife, some of us like to live in the real world where your "younger" wife won't go cry to her bro at the first sign of missed payment.
  13. That's another thing. My wife has been paying into life+health+social insurance since she started working at 18, so 25 years of non stop high premiums (not including insurance she gets from work). She proudly told me that in case she gets cancer, the insurance is going to pay me 500k baht compensation and pay for her treatment. However, if she gets cancer again then no luck. If you want to have any kind of preventive care here, you pay out of pocket. Forget about 6 month mammograms for women over 40 or once a year checkup.
  14. Yes. I knew this comment would be coming. But for many people living in Canada is no issue at all. Thailand is for young people, not old. Came at 39 and I am 49 now. I don't want to spend another 20 years on this forum complaining, so I don't think I will be spending my old age here. I don't wanna go to immigration every year and beg for a visa especially when my body gets weaker. Not my country. Young guys in, old guys out. Only a matter of time before Thailand pulls Malaysia regarding retirement visas. The cost of everything is going up. Pity the folk who sold everything to live the dream. In my mid 50's the plan is to have enough money for me and wife for a business class to Thailand and stay 6 months a year or whatever and maintain Canadian residency. That is quality life, not slumming it here in heat and no Western kitchen.
  15. This is what happens when you live in a 3rd world country with no money for hospital bills. A lot of my family in Canada are enjoying their lives in their mid 70's. Yes, in my old age I will be getting the best healthcare on taxpayer dime. Trust me, no old folk are envious of you living in Thailand.
  16. I think he is asking how to translate from English to Thai and confirm the translation is, in fact correct as most people who live here know what google translate from/to Thai often comes out as gibberish. What I normally do is use google translate and then I feed the translated Thai sentence back to google to be translated back to English to check if it makes sense. Not bullet proof, but it works most of the time,
  17. I do. As a matter of fact I do eat outside a lot. And I still think food here is garbage, but I have no choice. No thing such as western kitchen in Bangkok condo. Not paying 100k a month for something to resemble western condo and not even get a dishwasher. And I hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings here, but Thai food is one of the worst on the planet. Thais simply do not know how to cook. Pls do not get triggered.....
  18. The only Thai girl that ever cost me money was the one i met in Canada on a study permit. She was from well off family and naturally she wanted to show off in front of her friends which meant me most of the time footing the bill for outings and trips. She was also much younger in her early 20's, so I did not mind much. My previous Thai wife worked for Siemens. The last one just got hired by US company and works from home. I paid f all in the last 10 years and never pulled money out of ATM for any girl, even when I was dating on Tinder. I do my cheap charlie research before I go on a date, so there.
  19. Because in Thailand it is about location, price and who you know and not about how great your business plan is. So you open up your grocery store and tomorrow Somchai opens 7/11 next to you. Who is going to win? Also with 7/11 you can start with a smaller capital like 1 million baht. They have several price points for franchises. Great for people with not so deep pockets and easy to get a bank loan. My wife used to work for CP doing exactly this....scouting locations and opening stores before she moved to other things. Your only option would be to sell jackfruit or fishballs next to 7 to get any kind of traffic. What grocery store lol
  20. I think MedPark at present is a very good hospital overall unlike other expensive hospitals which are a hit and miss depending on what doctor is on duty. So, that being said, it is not about the hospital, but more about the doctors at these hospitals. I think you should mention what is your concern to get a much better advice.
  21. I have experience with this. You need to do endoscopy at like this very moment to get the correct diagnosis. In my case I have hiatal hernia and acid never goes away. It gets managed with gaviscon advance mostly. Your drinking is causing you anxiety issues. Having beer just sometimes won't cut it. Same for junk food. Your acid reflux will get 100 times worse if you get any form of anxiety. This is why it is actually very important to have endoscopy. I had it along with a CT scan and since there was nothing besides hernia and some gallstones I sleep better at night and my acid has gone from 8 out of 10 to 1 out of 10, No, I don't think you are careful at all.
  22. Yea...be ready to do more with a lot less when your goverment decides to cut your pension because you are a non resident. Then Thailand will be such a joy for every sexpat. I admit i didn't read the wall of text in case there is some other hidden philosophy behind it.
