What do you believe happens to you when you die?

Humans are not smart as we think. Our brain could never possibly understand what is exactly out there. The Earth looks flat, but you travel a bit outside and it looks round. The earth looks like the center of everything, but not really if you look from another point of view. Sounds like a double slit experiment to me. I no not believe in afterlife, but I do believe it is entirely possible to be reborn again trillions, quazzilions years in the future and most likely in another "universe". Out consciousness would not be the same and it would not somehow be magically transferred to a new body. You would be a completely different person or animal without any knowledge of your "past lives" In my opinion living now is probably your zillionth life already billions and quazillion years in the future and it will continue ad anfinitum. I guess in this life we could be grateful that some technological advances have been made to have our lives make a bit easier and suffer less. -

Excellent. What is the problem? Wish Canada would do the same. -

I understand you live long time in Thailand and are an expert in everything, but I did not mean they will go after their assets. The banks will harass close and distant families with endless calls. If this is something she wants to do to her family speaks volumes about her character. -

That makes no sense. Car disappeared how? Maybe insurance coughed up the money. Or maybe someone "else" paid her loan off. -

Debt in Thailand is forever owed. There is no such thing as bankruptcy per se. My wife knows a girl who owed 500k on her property even tho the bank took the property away. She managed to avoid the debt, but once she met a hunsum foreign man who offered to take her to promised land she soon found out Thailand would not let her go. My guess is that they refused to issue her a police certificate that would satisfy the immigration. Or maybe it was something else like passport. -
Deposit interest rate paid in Thai banks

I went to HSBC, told them I don't live in Canada anymore and I want to take advantage of their interest savings account. They asked me for some documents like proof of address or foreign driver's license. I didn't have anything. I did tell them I file a non resident tax every year and that seemed to be good enough for them. Out of curiosity I checked 12 month savings bonds in HSBC UK - 5%. -

I am on a marriage extension. I have the bare minimum in a bank account and it is usually out as soon as I get the extension approved. -
I love the old tech. If you don't find anyone, I could advance you the shipping costs to Bangkok.

Deposit interest rate paid in Thai banks
Celsius replied to ezzra's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Yes. Last December I went back to Canada, transferred all my savings into Canadian bank and now I am getting $2000 paid monthly on a 500k guaranteed "investment". The savings certificate will expire in December and I am hoping the interest rates will go higher. Why would anyone keep the money in this country? For what? -
I used to be married to a girl from the South (Surat Thani). She worked in Bangkok for Siemens BTS project and her family had a big plot of land where they were growing fruit, rubber trees and Chicken. Her family was pretty well off, but every time I visited they lived quite modest. Old house, smallest car you can buy and they never really showed off with stuff and things. The only thing they invested money was my ex-wife's education in Bangkok and the University was by all means pretty standard, nothing hiso. When we got married her parents also bought us land and built a small house as a present. So in all they were quite nice, not greedy and level headed. I normally hate the life in the village, but I actually liked going there for a visit as everyone always seemed to be enjoying themselves with just simple basic things. It looked like something out of a storybook. So, I do wonder is this money issue is only Isaan problem and with certain demographic.

My dear god, this nonsense again. Every time there is the potential to pump some stocks UP these "experts" come out of nowhere. 20 years ago STEM cells were supposed to cure cancer. Ten years ago Crypto was supposed to solve world hunger. Electric powered cars were supposed to be "good for the environment". BTW, did you not ask chatGTP about this topic?

People think back home is different. Amazon is exactly the same. The only good thing about Amazon is their refunds.

They are doing you a huge favor. You will eventually develop a massive acid reflux because of it, but hey..... you are one of the mates in Thailand doing things locally.

Last time I did not mention that I packed a laptop in my suitcase. When I did a transit in Seoul they called my name, made me sign a paper that I allow them to open my suitcase and remove and dispose the battery from my laptop. So, I do not see how not mentioning it is going to work. They will find it as they scan everything that goes inside the airplane.

Anyway raising the price 5-10% is normal. 40% is stupid. I don't think this is going to sit well with their Thai customers who are actually really cheap. My biggest peeve with this is that the restaurant will be gone and it will be one less place to eat in my vicinity. I started eating there long time ago because they used to make a really great Tom Kha Gai, but 4 years ago they completely stopped offering it. My guess is that because it was 4 times the price Thais were willing to pay. Most of their menus are traditional Thai dishes that are just a bit Westernized. Interestingly enough, they did not raise the prices of drinks even 1 baht.

You must be really hungry in Thailand. 5 minutes to check out one person at the supermarket after scanning all the food. Once they input their rewards number, collect the coupons, scan the payment with the app that crashed, the barcode that does not match the discount, you would have already finished your meal at McDonald's.

I see this comment a lot. A Cheap Charlie. Thank god I do not drink alcohol or Mama noodles, so I can hopefully be spared from this label. It is a funny comment because the massive amount of Cheap Charlies in Thailand are in fact Thai people.
