  1. Well, I'm happy for you then. If you were a loyal fan of the books this series would be equivalent to a remake of the Bible with Moses as a feisty drag queen leading his people to the Promised Land of Woke.
  2. Apparently, this version of Siobhan Clarke is also a lesbian. Well, why not? Honestly, why make a film version of an iconic book series if you don't care about portrying it at least somewhat accurately.
  3. Heart attack. It runs in the family and my blood pressure is too high so it's more or less inevitable. I just hope I go quickly. Fortunately, there isn't any cancer in my family.
  4. I just started Rebus. While I have like the first two episodes, and can accept Richard Rankin (no relation to Ian, he plays Roget in Outlander by the way) as Rebus, even though he doesn't really fit the character portrayed in the books, is no one going to mention the elephant in the room: The character of Siobahn Clarke? This is one of the most fundamental relationships in the later books and I just wish that had found an actor who better embodied her character. I guess Ian Rankin must have signed off on it though since he is an executive producer.
  5. How can anybody stand this lying hypocrite? Why is he popular? He's betrayed his supporters over and over again.
  6. You obviously don't get out enough. The government was setting up makeshift quarantine facilities to house all the patients. We had one right next door in a hotel that had closed because of your non-pandemic. 7 million people have died worldwide so far, including over 34,000 in Thailand. At one point, there were so many deaths the government arranged special train cars to ship the bodies back to the provinces. On the other hand, government invariably take advantage of crises such as this to try to implement an agenda they know they can't get in any other way. That's a conspiracy theory that's probably true. Read "Disaster Capitalism" by Naomi Klein.
  7. They've been dialing down the wokeness though and transitioning to a more collaborative approach, in the classic Star Trek syle, rather than focusing so much on Burnham. They did bring Ensign Tilly back in Season 5 which, IMHO, was a mistake. Ironically, although this is supposed to be set 1000 years in the future, nothing much has changed in the human condition.
  8. I'm sort of a Star Trek fan. The recent offerings have been lackluster at best. Picard was unnecessary (to be kind), Star Trek Strange New Worlds was a little better, had much of the original Star Trek feel, but it doesn't really seem to know what it wants to do with itself. Discovery was the biggest disappointment. I found the first two seasons unwatchable. But they managed to right the ship and the last two seasons, particularly the one now ongoing, have been quite entertaining.
  9. So now I believe there's a conspiracy to oust Srettha and throttle Thaksin's power
  10. That Thaksin was brought back to Thailand by a secret deal under which he would join forces with the Royalists and promote their agenda. I believe that one.
  11. It's built in and updates are automatically downloaded through windows update.
  12. I concur that Microsoft Defender is the way to go. It's free, they don't nag you about upgrading to some premium addition, all of the features are unlocked, it updates automatically with Windows Update and its antivirus properties are as good as any of the paid programs. I previously used Avast (until it started collecting and selling user data) and Kaspersky and Microsoft Defender is as good or better than either one.
  13. Look, the bank understands the Thai mentality. People will sign up enticed by the amount of interest but few of them will actually put in 10,000 a month for two years. So they'll lose all the interest and whatever money they do deposit the bank will get to use for free.
  14. No, he should just say it doesn't concern me, I'm not the real prime minister anyway.
  15. This from a company that states as its goal to eventually lower fees to zero.
  16. Yeah, what? The government just announced it's considering including lese majesty detainees in its political amnesty legislation, a direct consequence of her death.
  17. That's right, the complaint has to be filed with the court in order for it to be valid. In the past, the stipulation was that the accused had to be brought before the court but if I remember correctly that changed under the Prayut administration so they could convict Thaksin in absentia. But the Thai justice system is obviously flexible and the rules change depending on who is involved.
  18. Once a person is indicted, the statute of limitations no longer applies. Thai prosecutors deliberately drag out the case to make sure influential people are never indicted. That's not easy to do. This case had to drag out for 15 years.
  19. What about the transfer to your Wise account? They also charge for that, don't they?
  20. According to the email I received, the increase on a $1,000 transfer is from $8.84 to $10.98, which is pretty steep. They're recommending transferring from a Wise account, which would lower the cost to $8.81. You still have to transfer to the Wise account though so I'm not sure if it's worth it. Pros and cons?
  21. Wise is raising fees again for transfers between the US and Thailand from 8.84 to 10.98 (for a $1000 transfer), which is a pretty steep increase. They're recommending funding the transfers from a Wise account , which they say is cheaper, although it requires a 2-step transfer and funding the Wise account. Does anybody use a Wise account? How long does a transfer take? Any pros and cons?
  22. I guess next we'll be reading about you having disappeared in Thailandd.
