They will, eventually but probably when they realise that everyone booked holidays elsewhere due to their time wasting restrictions at which point it will be far too late for this year....better luck next year maybe? People don't like to waste time. It will cost the country billions and maybe they learn from their mistakes.

Baht drops against dollar to 5-year low, poised to drop further
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Of course it's not, the USD is rallying at the moment, hence the change. -
You may be right, I guess we will need to see what COVID brings as we head into the winter months. I'm pretty sure the situation won't be the same as it is now, and nearly every single one of the potential tourists will not have been vaccinated for a year by then. All or nothing - my money is on nothing - this country deserves to pay for its incompetence.

The western governments are going to be in for a shock later this year when nobody bothers with going for another vaccine after having conracted covid multiple times. People are done with them. They travel to places which don't require any kind of documentation or testing as it's too much hassle, even if they're fully vaccinated. There's plenty of such places. The free market will force this issue as millions of people go the route of least resistance. If that means hardly anyone comes to Thailand then so be it.

Provinces Make Clear Intention to Declare COVID-19 Endemic
ukrules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
You're talking about something completely unrelated to my post yet quoted me anyway. But I'll chime in anyway. I agree that COVID was an emergency. I'm using 'was' in the past tense there. -
Provinces Make Clear Intention to Declare COVID-19 Endemic
ukrules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Declaring something 'endemic' is an admission that there has been a complete and total failure to control it during the pandemic stage. So, endemicity is failure yet also inevitable with one variant or another which will also likely change over time. -
Thailand further eases entry restrictions for international travellers
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I'm sure more tourists will come to Thailand with these now reduced restrictions but I know for sure this 'Thailand Pass' is a step too far for a lot of people who just want to get on a plane and go on holiday. For example, my Mother, she's not coming again until she can just turn up at the airport and get on the plane and she's not going to any country that has hoops to jump through - ever. She won't be alone in this view.- 295 replies

It used to be, tax crimes were not something you would typically be extradited for in the past but that appears to have changed over the last few decades. All depends on the treaty and when it was signed. Of course adding in a couple of other spurious criminal charges as well gets rid of that problem if it arises.

Possibly blacklisted but wants to return
ukrules replied to bradiston's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
He was pardoned, that carries a lot of weight does it not? -
What's happening in Europe is without a doubt going to happen in the US, it's just delayed a little, these things take time to spread over great distances - but it's coming, there is no doubt about that. It's not really that bad in Europe anyway and numbers are coming down. The real test is going to be what happens in September / October 2022.

Yes, that's exactly the situation. This way they can be seen to be keeping the numbers down and by extension blame it on the foreigners. Lots of foreigners came to Thailand and over the next 2 weeks there's a going to be a lot more covid Obviously it was the foreigners, so ban them. I know their game. It's a game of deflection and face saving.
