Russia executing own retreating soldiers, US says
thaibeachlovers replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Ukraine
Where we fundamentally disagree is that any side will achieve "victory". As this is IMO a limited war, I see only that Russia will solidify it's defenses along the present front line and Ukraine will continue to try and cause as much disruption as possible, along the lines of what they were doing before the invasion. Is the west in general, and the US in particular in it for decades to come ( they were in Afghanistan for a very long time )? IMO they will give up eventually. Even the intervention in Afghanistan ended, leaving the taliban in charge, again. Perhaps, it is hoped, that episode will educate certain leaders of the futility of such adventures. Of course, the 1% thank the taxpayers of the west for making them even richer, and IMO if there are any "winners" it will be the ones selling the weapons. -
What the poster you replied to does not seem to understand is that not every building in Gaza has been flattened, but as the bombing is random, there is no place that is safe from an occasional airstrike, so it's just a matter of bad luck if one shelters in a place that does get bombed. They have killed over 7,000 so far and many under the rubble. One wonders how many must die to satisfy israeli desire for revenge? The land invasion has begun in North Gaza, but on a limited scale. The israelis will have trouble moving their armoured vehicles, given the amount of rubble the bombing has created.

The world may reject israel, but as long as the US establishment covers for israel nothing will change IMO. IMO the outcome may be concentrated on any israeli that ventures outside the homeland. They will IMO become soft targets for revenge. Perhaps netanyahu thinks the US is all they need, but we will see.

Given the HUGE demonstration in support of Gaza in London ( as seen on Al Jazeera ) Sunak must be feeling somewhat uncomfortable given his poodle visit to suck up to netanyahu. Perhaps he should have been more reticent in his support for the israelis. Perhaps he thought it would all be over by now, so he may be dismayed by netanyahu's declaration of a "long and hard" war in Gaza. The longer it goes on the bigger the demonstrations will become. Apparently the protest in Paris was banned, but it went ahead anyway. Hundreds of thousands demonstrating against israel all over the world, and Erdogan has been forthright in his condemnation of israel, to the point that netanyahu has recalled the israeli diplomats from Turkey ( as seen on Al Jazeera ). History may tell that certain leaders were on the wrong side, too soon.

The Jewish Voice for Peace has a large demonstration in Grand Central Station. Biden might be wondering why Jews don't support bombing children to bits. https://www.timesofisrael.com/200-held-as-jewish-group-shuts-nycs-grand-central-calling-for-gaza-ceasefire/ Jewish Voice for Peace, an anti-Zionist group, protests Israeli strikes on Hamas with banners and slogans saying ‘not in our name,’ and ‘Palestinians should be free’ The US got whupped in the UN general assembly with a majority calling for humanitarian relief and a pause in the bombing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9wAZVTlAZM After rejecting an amendment proposed by Canada and the United States, the General Assembly, by 120 votes in favour 120, 14 against and 45 abstentions, today (27 Oct) adopted a resolution calling for an immediate and sustained humanitarian truce.

One suspects Iran is the reason that the US has sent 2 carrier groups to the Eastern Mediterranean.

I used the women's toilet today
thaibeachlovers replied to Chris Daley's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I didn't like that a Thai guy would start massaging my back while having a p, because they wanted a tip, or they handed over a towel for same reason. I gave more than enough tips in in the gogo part. -
Were they tough working years?

I didn't mind shift work, but I preferred permanent night shift. It was easy to be able to do it as not many did want to. -

I had obtained the nursing documentation to work in Aussie, and at one time I was going to get a job up by the Barrier Reef, as I'm a qualified scuba diver, but I discovered Thailand and stayed put in London as I was only interested in making money to go to LOS. I was also interested in the Flying Doctor Service, but ditto. I had also inquired about working in Canada in a ski area as I loved skiing, but at that time if a Canadian nurse wanted to work there I would have been sacked to allow them to work instead, so I gave that a miss. I even passed the American exam to work in America, but the litigious nature of the Americans was a disincentive, so I went to work in Saudi instead, which had no such insanity, provided free accommodation, and a free yearly flight to home location. They also paid a whole lotacash to work there. I actually got hooked on Thailand on a stop off between Saudi and NZ. Nursing, now it's such an unpopular job, gives all sorts of opportunities for interesting jobs around the world given the world wide shortage of nurses. Interesting jobs like ORBIS, which has a flying operating theater that treats eye problems in the third world. -

When I went to Penang on a visa run I had the misfortune to use the public toilet in the Butterworth Railway station, which was vile. Fortunately I discovered the handicapped toilet on my return visit. -

I have no idea. I was responding to your post. -
The US ( and this is bigger than an individual president or party ) needs to absolutely support the Philippines ( AND Taiwan ), or China has the green light to take the entire Pacific IMO. If they can't stop China in the Philippines, where can they stop them? I have no doubt that China is the biggest threat in the world to free nations at this time, but they are so dominant in selling cheap stuff to the west that many western countries have turned a blind eye to their military build up.

House elects Mike Johnson as Speaker, ending GOP chaos
thaibeachlovers replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I suspect the reason was because they couldn't support israel till a speaker was elected, and he just happened to be acceptable to the Trumpist holdouts. He can always be removed once israel has demolished Gaza. They need all the bombs they can get to finish the job,and without the US supplying them the job will not be finished to their satisfaction. It's significant that his first order of business was israel and not the debt crisis. -
I see nothing in that quote to say I'm a Russian supporter. Anyway, you are under the mistaken assumption that we have to support either Russia or Ukraine, but I support neither. Ukraine is nothing to do with me, and I am commenting on the waste of western money being spent on an IMO hopeless cause, and a proxy war that only results in lots of dead and Ukrainian destruction. Western countries should be spending taxpayer money on the taxpayers, not making American arms manufacturers rich on the corpses of people that didn't have to die. Next.

Plenty of links if one looks. https://www.newsweek.com/ukraine-passes-law-shoot-deserters-304911 Ukraine Passes Law Allowing Military to Shoot Deserters Feb 06, 2015 at 12:53 PM EST https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-65792384 At least 90 Ukrainian draft dodgers and deserters are thought to have died trying to escape over the border into Romania
