  1. ?????????????? I lived on a lot less than 65k a month and lived very well. 800,000 was permanently in the bank and never touched. Insurance was the only real problem I had. I certainly never had any problems "settling" in LOS, and preferred it.
  2. That's true, but when I reached the age it was difficult to get medical insurance I left. I might get free hospital treatment here, but anything before that ( GP, physio etc ) costs a heap. The NHS is the ONLY reason I'd like to live in the UK.
  3. IMO most farangs that like living in LOS didn't move there to live as if they were back home, and it's very cheap to do so without all the ( IMO ) BS that we have to live with in the west. Things like accommodation, food, public transport, dentists, vehicle maintenance are EXTREMELY cheap in LOS compared to western countries.
  4. Really? Ladyboys are not trying to get your $$$? LOL. I've seen one on Sukhumvit relieving a farang of his wallet while said farang is being distracted by another of the gang. At least bargirls usually wait till the customer has bought a drink, before attempting to get him to part with the $$$.
  5. Something I support. There were already far too many tourists prior to corona and they were ruining every tourist spot eg Maya Bay. Anything to restrict the mass tourism is IMO a good thing.
  6. From what I read on TVF the monstrosity is still slowly disintegrating. The blue "pool" is apparently coloured concrete.
  7. Pity the plod were not as enthusiastic when it came to the jet ski scammers prior to corona. If that's the priority, I can only hope that they all go broke for lack of opportunities to pocket the brown envelopes.
  8. LOL. Did any westerner visit Pattaya for the peaceful and local vibe? That's the good thing about Thailand- something for most tastes. I, and many, liked the seediness- kept the families and bagpackers away.
  9. What's wrong with pointing out the many horrible things about China? Anyway, far as I know there is no forum rule protecting China from criticism.
  10. Thank you for posting an example of the sort of thing that made the problem in the first place. You may not have noticed, but the thread isn't about me, and I'm entitled to post my opinions without being criticized for doing so by other posters. That is against forum rules.
  11. I'm happy it ended. In the months before it did, I stopped posting on World News because of the vitriol that was said against myself and anyone that supported a contrary opinion to the majority. In the end all it was IMO was a group posting amongst themselves. I'm not saying that I was happy about it closing because I was not in the majority, but it would have been nice to be able to post an opinion without being insulted for it. I guess we had cancel culture before it was a common thing.
  12. IMO it was more of a community back then, though there were quite a lot of rather nasty posters that liked attacking other posters. That still goes on now, though less since World News ended, IMO.
  13. Are they <deleted> blind? So long as the beach gets washed away by a normal rain storm, and that derelict monstrosity looms over south Pattaya, other than Chinese and Indians, who with money is going to visit Pattaya? Far, far better beaches in Thailand to visit, and with the night life at virtual zero, what is there to attract western visitors? Perhaps they should do something to sort City Hall, or it's all going amount to a big fat nothing, IMO. Up to them.
  14. Sixpack is still around. Gamma gets attacked a lot, so I wouldn't be surprised if he gives up. I remember when I could easily spend half a day on TVF, but these days it's more like half an hour. Sorry, but I just don't get enthused about threads which regurgitate corona all the time, and that seems to be as exciting as it gets now. Just don't seem to get the sort of threads that used to attract masses of comments anymore- threads about mia nois, scams, bars, sex, ladyboys, etc. Even the long running God thread has apparently run it's course. What is the answer? That's a hard one to answer, and may run into problems that I can't discuss on here.
  15. For reasons that would be obvious to any that were not of the majority opinion, I'm happy it ended.
  16. Just as well that wasn't in Pattaya, as it might put a crimp in the "Riviera of Thailand" myth they've been promoting. Couldn't make this stuff up.
  17. As they should be, IMO. Politics in Thailand are nothing to do with farangs, unless they become citizens. Don't like it, you know where the exit is. However, that's not saying we can't comment on here, within reason. Venting is good.
  18. IMO corruption is always involved in anything to do with Pattaya, but it's a stretch to believe that all of the hotel owners would allow minions to turn off the taps. IMO the whole "make Pattaya a world class tourist destination" thing is never going to happen because everything they touch turns to dross, as it's done as cheaply as possible, for the usual reasons. IMO same reason Swampy is a lemon instead of something as good as Changi.
  19. I must have got my love for the Goon Show from my father, who loved it very much.
  20. Don't remember the story, but I remember that we used to listen to that series. I do remember the intro.
  21. I did enjoy that movie, but didn't like that it went woke at the end and he confessed all. Should have kept his yap shut and enjoyed the ride.
  22. I wonder if people that grew up with tv were able to develop an imagination to the same extent that those of us that grew up without tv did. I notice that when I watch tv my brain switches off to an extent. IMO if we don't use our brain much it isn't going to work as well.
