The cost, benefits, and implication of cash handout programs
sirineou replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
A lot of nonsense above as it pertains to the subject matter of the OP. A stimulus is classic economic device often used by governments to stimulate a lagging economy. Money paid to citizens generates consumption, and what better way to infuse those funds in an economy , that to give it to the poor who would spend all of it. The multiplier affects. I send 100 bht at the shoe maker , and taxes are collected, the shoe maker spends the 100 bht buying supplies and food at the butcher and collects taxes, , the butcher spends that 100 bht to buy more meat to sell and flowers for his wife etc etc etc. The money circulates many times through the economy, and the goverment gets back the original stimulus in taxes collected. . -
Same here I wad my washing machines connected full time , all my life and never had a hose burst/ IMO it is a low probability event. I know in the US I had a spill tray under my washer and Under my water heater, They must have them here, or you can adapt something , or have one made out of tin.

Trump wins Iowa caucuses, cementing frontrunner status in 2024 race
sirineou replied to webfact's topic in World News
Not necessarily . The candidate with the most supporters showing up , not the most diehard supporters wins. -
We were thinking taking a road trip to the above, and were wondering if anyone has been there recently , and given the fact that it has not rained for a while if it is even worth it going there at this time of the year or should leave it for later during the wet season. I would appreciate any advice.

Trump wins Iowa caucuses, cementing frontrunner status in 2024 race
sirineou replied to webfact's topic in World News
Not surprising IMO , the bad weather favored the candidate with the most diehard followers -
Perhaps I am not understanding the issue correctly, but why can't the boy simply travel to the US on his US passport? When mu wife who holds both US and Thai passports travels to the US she always usses her US passport., and returns on her Thai Once when my wife's Thai passport was expired and we needed to come to Thailand ASAP and did not have time to renew it, she got an emergency travel document from the Thai embay in the US, it was essay. so If when returning to Thailand your son would need to return with his Thai passport as he should to eliminate overstay and visa issues, and since he does not have one, just get an emergency travel document. Apologies if I misunderstood the issue.

Does using a VPN impact online banking?
sirineou replied to BananaBandit's topic in IT and Computers
Nord VPN allows you to look like you are in the US at the area where your website is. But even if you are in the US often websites will send a text message to verify your identity. Some other websites have the option for email , or verify your identify in other ways, such as asking you answers to questions they have on file. I cover all bases. -
I was just scanning the news headline and a article from the New York Post caught my attention No No , relax, it hasn't started yet , but I thought of this thread and thought it apropos to this thread. "Germany preparing for Russia to start World War 3, leaked war plans reveal " https://nypost.com/2024/01/15/news/germany-preparing-for-russia-to-start-world-war-3/ Of course I am sure, in view of the situation ,all major countries are making contingency plans. It would be irresponsible not to. But it looks like we are a couple of steps closer to it. But I think the idea that Russia will attack NATO , unless it had no other option, is preposterous, They are having a problem pacifying Ukraine and they would attack NATO? an entity several orders of magnitude stronger than Ukraine, But if it had no other choice................

Can i keep my family in home country from knowing if i die?
sirineou replied to Pouatchee's topic in General Topics
Not true, depending on the state or country the OP is from, there are succession and community property issues, in addition if the OP has left a will, regardless of the contents of the will, interested parties have the right to contest such will, How could they possible do that if they don't even know the OP has passed away ? -

One Billion in US Weapons Sent to Ukraine Unaccounted For
sirineou replied to morrobay's topic in The War in Ukraine
Because of American exceptionalism. We think that the axiom of "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" does not apply to the US. -
That is a major advantage. I have a generator in the back of my pickup truck for running tool away from the shed. I would love to get rid of the generator and the noise it makes. I am of the opinion that at this point , electric is so inexpensive here in Thailand that making the investment might nor be economically viable, but I am not sure, Me and the wife have talked about the solar cell for the house option. Not to derail this thread but. What size system do you find is adequate for am average home? and what size battery system for overnight consumption? Except for the cool winter months, we run the AC in the bedroom almost 24/7 and the Living Room kitchen area most of the time.

Can you use your battery to run household alliances in the event of a blackout, or if too far from power outlets? I read that with many EVs that is an option now.

I understand the point you are trying to make and I am not entirely opposed to it . I simply challenging your methodology. I did a search on Google for the average mileage driven per year in Thailand. I Didn't find any official statistics but there were many reports in this forum of 20-25k per year , which seems to be in line with our driving also, so based on that your 18K seemed to be on the low side. other than that I used your numbers, If you thought that the fortuner is a guzzler you should not had used that for an example, But regardless, for you, those would be the numbers . I am not saying that you basic premise is wrong , I am challenging your assumption that you need to consider the full price of the EV in your calculations, but rather the difference between an ICE and an EV , And that your calculations were a bit on the high side. I would also not buy an EV right now, though I am tempted. For us, at this point, an EV would be as a second vehicle. We like to drive long distances around Thailand, and the EV range and charging times would make that difficult. But when it is time for our 2 year old seven seater to be replaced we will seriously consider getting an EV. I have an old pickup truck that i use to play around at the farm. We were thinking that perhaps ,when it comes time to replace vehicles we get a new extended cab pickup truck,( I like a 4 door but their bed is so small) and a small EV for around town, but who knows by then the range issue might have improved, (I hear reports of 1,000 kn range in the pipeline) 90% of our driving, perhaps more, is around town and no more that 30 km from home, Aside from all the other benefits. A small EV would eliminate 90% plus of our fuel consumption. IMO for anyone who owns a house and an EV would be a good idea to have a small solar cell installation . At our farm we had a solar cell installed to run the well pump. I don't remember exactly how much it cost but it was not more than 40k . I am sure it is less now as prices seem to go down. As I briefly mentioned above . the benefits of an EV are not limited to fuel consumption, of course we have the reduction in pollution. but also the simplicity of the system that eliminates costly maintenance and repairs. Anyway right or wrong, that's my thinking on the subject. PS: for the benefits I forgot to mention that in the event of a blackout , you can also run your house with most EVs, try doing this with my , or your ICE vehicle

The MG ZS EV is1,023,000 and the comparable MG ZS ice is 759,000 a difference of 264,000 using the numbers you provided of 56,170 per year (which is below average but if we take your number then it will take less than 4 years to offset the difference of 264,000 bht
