  1. Good question. I think a lot of them would like to look for work in the building trade where they can be based in a more urban environment and earn better wages. My mothers previous next door neighbor had a large extension built. Foreman English , three semi skilled workmen were Romanian. As with Thai agricultural workers who flit between seasonal agricultural work and the building sector.
  2. Are you saying that Australians only have a little over half a brain ???
  3. And if they don't want that kind of work ? They can probably find hard manual work for low wages where they came from. If they have paid a trafficker a large sum just to get here they are likely looking for more lucrative employment.
  4. No. I'm painting a big target on MILs roof. You'll be fine.
  5. Just done third extension. They visited on year one but none since.
  6. I was thinking , during covid , many cruise ships were sold for scrap. Since the government is throwing money at hotels why not just buy a cruise ship at auction and house the economic migrants on these until their claims for asylum are processed. Example : The Carnival Fantasy was sold for scrap in 2020 . Capacity 2675 passengers. Those picked up mid channel could be taken onto the ship which could be moored off shore. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnival_Fantasy
  7. Four small bottles of Lao Khao a week mixed with water and fresh squeezed lime juice does me. Avoid ring top brand ....smells like turps. Screw top is fine ....odourless. For variety sometime mix with blue boy grape juice concentrate ..... nicccce. Also comes as 35 degree or 30 degree.
  8. Ah.....Thailand , the hub of dissipation. Always was , always will be. I will laud and hail it until the kwais come home
  9. Ah how romantic. She obviously missed you. Several times luckily for you.
  10. Twice a week here, Monday and Thursdays but they don't take garden waste ( leaves and branches ). Most of my garden waste is huge dry leaves from Teak tree. Gave up composting them and now burn them once a week as the sun goes down and people close up for the night as mosquitoes get lively. . Flares up for 60 seconds then all gone in about 3 minutes. What is needed is a proper municipal dump where garbage and old furniture can be sorted and disposed of or recycled.
  11. Meanwhile, back at the army ranch, a special unit has been mobilized to dig up some dirt on Pita Limjaroenrat.
  12. Bad roads are one of the main reasons I don't drive fast. Rather take a bit longer getting somewhere than risk an accident

  14. Your own guess would be correct.
  15. In my youth , I used to be 100 percent against the death penalty. Now after a lifetime of reading sad things like this on almost a daily basis I am 100 percent in favor of it. Murderers don't deserve to live.
  16. I have a different issue. I was a regular smoker for about 20 years until I settled down with my wife here. One thing I did not like was that shorty after a smoke my heart would start pounding away in my chest for about 45 minutes. As my heart is now not in the best of health I am put off restarting a habit I have long since learnt to live without. However, I also have a bit of arthritis in my hands and thought that a mild infusion before bed time a couple of times a week might help. I'll look into the suggestions above as they sound pretty mild.
  17. My 16 year old acer monitor was working fine until recently when I spilt some coffee on it and made the mistake of cleaning the stain with alcohol gel instead of just warm water. Result coffee stain gone and worse stain left by alcohol so that when screen was showing anything dark there would be a big faded blob in the middle. As others say . Solution ....new acer monitor 3500 baht

  19. Except he didn't refuse assistance. The Chinese helped the Vietnamese train their military commanders; reorganize their defense and financial systems, including tax and fiscal policy; and create a solid economic base. They also helped the Vietnamese to mobilize the peasants to support war through land reform campaigns. Overall, there was a massive transfer of the Chinese experience of making revolution to the Vietnamese. https://www.wilsoncenter.org/article/china-contributed-substantially-to-vietnam-war-victory-claims-scholar#:~:text=On the contrary%2C the Chinese, their war against the French.
  20. Would anybody notice the difference ?
  21. Do you mean half a gram ?
  22. Same advice I gave visiting relatives who insisted on staying on the Sukhumvit tourist ghetto area. If a place looks swanky with nice decor and air con but no customers you have to wonder how fresh the food is. Places with highest turnover have freshest food at fair prices.
  23. Yes...take it to Ma Boon Krong. If you are just selling you might not get much of a price but if you are trading up you might get a good deal especially as there are hundreds of dealers there so you can shop around.
