Blow to Biden as poll shows Trump in lead for 2024 presidential election
Denim replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
Hobsons choice. At the moment, other democracies around the world seem to be struggling with the same problem, a choice of bad or worse. -
Fury grows over Tory visa rules where ‘only the rich’ dare fall in love
Denim replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
The rubber dingy across the channel starts to look like the way to go if you fall in love with a foreigner but don't earn the required amount. I've seen a lot of governments come and go but for completely misunderstanding public sentiment this one take the cake.- 243 replies

Oh....worse than I thought then. I was thinking Manchester. Been a long time since I checked. When I saw how much my old studion flat that I bought for 34,000 is now worth I couldn't believe it. Around 250,000 or over 10,500,000 baht !! -

Rents are through the roof and even if you can afford it the screening is tiresome as landlords want someone in work. Rent a studio for 600 pounds or collect 600 pounds a month yourself. A home address is useful. Easier to continue using the NHS in an emergency plus if you are claiming a state pension a UK address makes it easier to get any rises that come along. Also , property prises in the UK generally move up. They might stall from time to time but like gold , they eventually bounce back. Therefore a property is a real investment A studio is really all you need. If the tennants trash it you only have one room to refurnish. The outside is not your problem as is taken care of in the service charge -

Size down and rent out. Houses need maintenance and most tenants don't bother with it so your house can end up needing a lot of decorating or repairs. A one bedroom flat or studio is a lot less trouble to maintain but you still have a foot in the door in your home country. -

Where is this ? If you live in an area popular with tourists it is more likely to happen than in the boonies. A young policeman once told me that to get assigned to a tourist area in the first place , a bribe to the right person withing the police force is usually necessary. Working in a tourist area is seen as more lucrative than in the back of beyond or worse still in the deep south. As a consequence , tourist areas have cops that are generally more venal than in other areas. A policeman in Khon Kaen town once pulled me over for riding the entire length of a one way street the wrong way. I apologised and explained I hadn't seen the sign. He said mai pen rai but be more careful then let me go. Leaving Pattaya on the way to Sathaheep in a car a young cop pulled me over. I asked what I did wrong ? He said I stayed in the righthand lane too long. I told him I was driving on the left and only used the right lane to overtake a stationary coach !! You took too long was his feeble response. He offered me 2 options. Leave the car parked there and accompany him to the police station to file a report or pay 100 baht on the spot fine.

' Net migration measures ' Says it all. Just a pathetic hand wringing gesture to balance the books. ' Look at us. We are on top of things ! We have migration under control. ' Really , they just take it as a given that the electorate are dumber than themselves and believe all this panic driven hogwash. Unable to control let alone stop illegal immigration they go for the soft option and make legal migration a lot more difficult. Won't save their sorry derrieres . They will be swept away like chaff at the next election and good riddance.

Corrections Dept Told To Not Handle A House Arrest For Thaksin
Denim replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And he might probably likely never will. As JJ Cale put it : Money talks , very loudly. You'd be surprised at the friends you can buy with small change. -
I mentioned this as it was the unforeseen circumstance I mentioned. I counted the 2 months using dates. My immigration office wanted 2 full calender months which left me with just 1 day in hand as my permission to stay expired on November 2nd. But this is Thailand so a different office might not want this requirement
