  1. "no more coup after the May 14 general election" Other than the May 14 part, you know how many times I have heard this over the last 40 years? I just don't see this happening if past history is anything to go on.
  2. I've never really been a big fan of Phuket. I did like my visits back in the early 80's. Not so much lately (the 90's) and haven't been there in 20 years. I do enjoy a lot of other places in the south though.
  3. In the scenario the OP outlined, I would definitely carry/take my passport with me. I'd also bring photocopies of the passport and relevant pages just in case.
  4. I think "Big Joke" will definitely be down there probing quite a few from sun up to well past sun down.
  5. They have two Brazilians, and one player from Argentina. There is one luk krung player but he is listed as Thai nationality. I have no idea what kind of fan base or crowds that attend their matches. The stadium they play at only hold about 5800.
  6. Not a naked woman. Really nothing more than a quick flash of the boobies. Yet the Thai authorities really got their knickers in a knot over this.
  7. Get involved in doing activities that you used to do in your home country. If those aren't available look for new interests that you might want to try. There are a lot of expat groups that meet on a variety of different things. Most, but not all, also have a number of Thais involved too.
  8. It still does! They are still going strong all over the world and in Thailand as well.
  9. I think it would be a good idea for the Thai government to extend the 45 day visa exempt program. It is good for tourism and brings a lot of foreign money into the country.
  10. There have actually been a lot of films partially shot in Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi over the years. I really liked both Good Morning Vietnam and The Killing Fields.
  11. It's easier to just get a taxi. As others have said, make sure the driver uses the meter. At that time of day it might be quicker to use the airport link and MRT, or airport link and the BTS.
  12. Oh, I don't know. Somebody who thinks they can gain something from it.
  13. Never had a farang wife so I really can't comment from personal experience. Met my Thai wife when she was a graduate student at the university we were both studying at. Married for many years until she passed away much to early from cancer.
  14. Very unlikely he will ever go to prison. Wealthy people like him usually can avoid prison terms.
  15. A very sad story that happens all too often in Thailand. I wish this man and his family all the best.
  16. I loved Koh Chang back in the early 90's! It was a fun place and back then. I haven't been back in over 10 years. I can only imagine what it is like now as it was full of big resorts even then.
  17. I could imagine a few females wanting to wear a school girl uniform around certain Sois in Bangkok to attract some interest from a few guys.
  18. If the title of the thread is correct, I guess that puts me in the 12% group.
  19. I just tell them, "no sir, I'm a Pepsi man myself" and just keep on walking.
  20. Yes, back in the day before there was any internet and mobile phones when I was doing Mountain Search and Rescue. Was out for about 2.5 days in the backcountry attempting to locate some overdue climbers. Low cloud ceiling and not very good weather grounded the helicopters so we were off on foot.
  21. I read the opening post and a couple of more posts but it just didn't make sense. I'm done with it now.
