  1. What happens here maybe once a week (phone scam, etc) happens multiple times daily in other parts of the world. Ignore and block. And refuse or give fake numbers to everyone )like when getting a store loyalty card, etc).
  2. Just like the pennies in North America. Useless, but if they're removed from circulation then inflation will go up. (As I had read somewhere.) So it's monetary policy to keep small useless coins in circulation.
  3. Quite possible and common (from my experience). Like suggested, turn off everything and check your reader. Also be aware that old/dirty A/C use a lot of electricity. (In old home my with old A/C my e-bill was significantly higher than in my new home with new A/C and.)
  4. No license = no Installation. THAT is what I would be worried about.
  5. Many people migrate to avoid the smoke. If you can afford it, go.
  6. Expensive A/C ... move elsewhere. No one forces you to stay in a beautiful building with bad cooling system. 7k is a lot, but not crazy. I know a studio apartment where a tenant paid 15k month.
  7. Tragic. Hope there are consequences for the driver. But she is not entirely faultless. Having been here so long, she knows not to trust traffic lights, esp when there is little traffic (otherwise how could the van have been speeding?) and everyone knows that people drive like crazy.
  8. I know a fair number of Thais that collect watches. Most is by word of mouth or FB groups. Post it on FB Marketplace, incl pictures of receipts/documents. Do your research on ebay what they might be worth.
  9. Yes, it gets violent. Sounds like a story, but true. Happened at a bar we all frequented. A friend snatched a girl in a bar. When he left, he got jumped by the other gang, severely beaten up, thrown into a car and driven to the 'burbs, stripped down to his underwear, and dumped into a dark alley. Clothes and wallet never found.
  10. The benefits of the pink ID are overrated. I have one (I got it for fun) but hardly ever get a chance to use it. What do you want to use it for?
  11. Gov't is cracking down on landlords and tenants abusing the system. Condo juristic person has to comply and provide documents.
  12. No, you are not within your rights to do this. Pay rent is your contractual obligation. Returning deposit is his obligation. If not, go to court. Self-help by not paying isn't how society works. Sucks that the landlord is in the position of power. But that's the way it is.
  13. Viscous cocker spaniel. Came wagging tail and then turned and bit all of us. Would have put her down in a heartbeat if it were my decision.
  14. Might the quality of the plane/service be in correlation to its destination?
  15. Not surprised. I just paid 2k tax on four shirts that my family sent via FedEx. (Why they didn't declare it properly and why they sent them via FexEd is a different story.)
  16. I know Thais who haven't paid their speeding and parking violations in 20 years. And are proud of it. Still, dumb tourist. Should know and behave better.
  17. Angry because foreigners. Indifferent when Thais. Scandal-oriented news reporting.
  18. In a plastic bag and into the tank of the toilet. (Assuming he has a toilet and not a squatter with water bucket.)
  19. At least here he'll be put away for a good ling time and not released with a behave-or-else like in Canada.
  20. I remember reading that only on-site deaths are recorded. That number doubles if you count those that die on the way, and in, hospital.
  21. I remember water trucks filling up at the river and delivering to Khao San. And people then aiming deliberately at eyes, ears, and mouth. Not my idea of fun.
  22. A no frills cremation at a temple in Bangkok will run you about 10-15k. Ashes/bones will be handed over in a cloth bag in a box. Scattering the ashes in the river (taking a boat out from the pier at Pakred) is well under 5k. Even cheaper if it's at a temple outside of Bangkok. It's free if you find access to a river without watchful eyes.
  23. BS is at it again with his stories.
  24. It's policy set by hotel Mgmt and that won't be questioned by front staff. Photocopy of passport must be made. I was refused check-in without passport (even though the driver's license and the pink ID have the passport number on them). A photo of the passport on the phone also wasn't accepted.
  25. Go to the dealer and order a new set of keys.
