  1. No they're not, the government treads a fine line between the more liberal sensibilities of the urban population, and the more conservative sensibilities of the rural population. The Islamic party PAS is also part of the coalition in government. The issues regarding homosexuality are difficult because there's no leeway in Islamic law, so these things are dealt with generally on a don't tell don't ask basis. Muppets like the moron Matty Healy who caused a chaos at a recent music festival, and stuff like Swatch cashing in on the alphabet soup are of no help. When brought front and center the Malaysian government can only be seen to act one way. This is the same for Indonesia.
  2. 10Bht you're hardly being stepped on. Rights & integrity ~ do you realise how ridiculous that sounds for 10Bht!
  3. For pity's sake just pay, life's too short to fret over 10Bht
  4. Powerbuy is also good, deliver, install and remove old one, can't remember if that was free or not. https://www.powerbuy.co.th/en/ Over the last 20 years we've had 3 front loaders; an LG that lasted 8 years, a Samsung that only survived 6, and for the last 6 years another LG which is still going strong.
  5. I have a 5 year old Asus Vivomini VM45 that runs as a media box with my TV, been very happy with it. When the aging desktop finally gives up the ghost will likely replace with whatever Asus mini-PC is then current.
  6. They'll be needing an immigration office then too!
  7. What are they going to import from space!
  8. Yes, the Hat Yai city centre is fairly compact and easy to walk around, station to Lee Garden, but Hat Yai does sprawl; Hat Yai Nai to the Municipal Park is 8km for example. That said there's plenty of songthaew that'll take you to most parts of the city for 10Bht, plenty of tuk-tuks, and we also have Maxim ride hailing app just started. But if you want to to venture further afield to the mountains or the beach you need a car.
  9. What could possibly go wrong?
  10. Hat Yai's is a 'tourist like' city, just not with western tourists. Plenty of scooter and bike hire places around town, don't ask which as I have no idea, suggest homework with Google and reading reviews. Car hire likewise, from the international companies like Avis, Budget and Sixt etc, to local rent-a-wreck entities. You won't have any issues finding wheels in Hat Yai.
  11. No issues shopping in Tops Hat Yai today, shortage seems to be over.
  12. Might be an issue if you live in Bangkok, but in the provinces, nah.
  13. Nope never, but whilst I enjoy a drink I very seldom get drunk, luckily I know when to stop.
  14. You're assuming the child had any say in the matter.
  15. It is a fixed term deposit account, yes I can access the money at a branch but with the loss of interest for that term. I've never been asked to do that in order to show activity on the day of the extension, they are happy with the letter and statement made on the day of application. There is no movement on the account, just updates every 3 months at the end of the term, so I would fail as per the example cited. Songkhla doesn't have an issue with money on fixed term deposit. .
  16. Errrm, does it actually specify "instant access account", I keep my money for extension in a timed deposit account but haven't had any problems with immigration.
  17. There are quite a few countries that possess such a "geographical advantage" - Thailand's nearest point to the equator is Yala - not sure building a space port there would be quite so advantageous. I think he has perhaps too much space between the ears.
  18. None, haven't owned a car in 40 years. Lots of public transport, and if I need I car I hire one. No point living in a city and owning a car.
  19. How precisely does one do that - "hello, you have my moral support", no doubt they're all eternally grateful and feel thoroughly morally supported!?
  20. No, not there, the other side of Soi33 - roti shop not 'steakhouse' the Ded-o-cha Restaurant
  21. I wouldn't leave a car in Robinson's car park overnight, the ones near the airport are you best bet as they have security.
