Hat Yai is almost back to normal, now that the border has reopened and flights to KL and Singapore resumed. With Malaysian school term 2 holiday break starting tomorrow it will be a busy couple of weeks in Hat Yai. With money tight for most people, many won't want to venture too far for a holiday, so Southern Thailand is just right. Always worth remembering that Malaysia is 40% non-Muslim, and many do like to drink, and it's more often whiskey or brandy (by the bottle) rather than beer. People who think Malaysians are low spenders have obviously never had a night out in KL or Hat Yai.

No, but only from habit. Shop at Big C Extra which used to be Carrefour, there and at Tops. Stuff I can't find in Hat Yai, like Yorkshire Tea, I order from Food Variety on Lazada. Things like sausages and the occasional steaks I order through Passion Delivery.

We've got 5 now dotted through the house, 2x Dot 3, 3x Dot 4. One came from Amazon UK, the other 4 from Lazada. They work fine, I have succeeded in getting Spotify to work, as well as BBC Sounds, Global Player, TuneIn and Skype. There are 5 Sensibo air conditioner controllers linked in, and numerous smartplugs. The intercom 'Drop In' feature is a great help living in a 4 storey shophouse. To do lists and shopping lists link to the Alexa app on the phone, and you can use the drop in feature from the phone too. I find them invaluable. I also don't worry too much about possible eavesdropping. I suspect that's the least of my worries heading deeper in to the digital future. .

Prompt Pay and QR Code
Stocky replied to jayboy's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
It's in the app, at least for Kasikorn and Krungsri. You need to register first, then people can either pay to your phone number or using your QR code. Can only register one account. . -

Where does Bangkok figure on the Asian pollution index?

It's subjective rather than based on measured data, just Joe Farang thinks it's dirty. -
Santander Bank (U.K.) Voice ID.
Stocky replied to The Fugitive's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I closed my Abbey National/Santander account because of issues with failing the ID verification process. Due to the time zones working in the Russian Far East I invariably ended up with a call centre in Delhi, where my inability to understand what I was being asked meant my being forwarded to the 24hr customer services desk in the UK, who fixed the issue after confirming it really was me. I just couldn't be bothered with the extra hassle. . -

It would be very difficult to stage a free and fair referendum in the southern provinces. There would be considerable pressure on voters from the separatists to vote one way, and the government to vote the other. I suspect most are happy to remain part of Thailand but with the acceptance of Pattani-Malay (Jawi) as an official language, an end to Thaification, and recognition of their history and culture. Many would also want to see the implementation Sharia law, similar to Malaysia, where Sharia Courts deal with the Islamic laws relating to betrothal, marriage, inheritance, apostasy and divorce. Sharia law would not apply to non-Muslims. .
