  1. A bung under the table to Blatter and co should do it.
  2. He messed up big time with the rice-pledging scheme. But let's remember he was the first democratically elected prime minister of Thailand to serve a full term and was re-elected in 2005 by an overwhelming majority. He was good for business and the economy, whatever his foibles. I doubt the massive scale of corruption of the present (and unelected) junta "government" of this country will ever come to light. They are holding a gun to the head of the media, and silencing dissent by any means necessary.
  3. That is so sad.. ????
  4. I enjoy visiting the UK at least once per year. Wouldn't want to live there full time though. House prices (and rents) are crazy there now, unless you just rocked up on a beach in a dinghy. ???? I live in what I think is a nice part of Thailand. I can go anywhere else I want to in-country, for a very cheap price. Still work here, and mostly enjoying it especially as retirement is on the horizon. No complaints really.
  5. It's just another 'divide and rule' tactic employed by our "elites" to further atomize society. The technology and methods used have obviously improved a lot since Roman times, but its still the same tactic.
  6. Nobody mentioned the work "Triad" here yet? The BP version of this story yesterday states that the heads of the 5 major Chinese Triad gangs have only just been declared persona non grata here. Wonder how long they've been operating beforehand.?
  7. That is the vision of chaos and decay broadcasted 24/7 by our beloved mainstream media, anyway. It's calculated to create anxiety and despair among the general population. "Ordo Ab Chao" or 'order from chaos' is how we are divided and ruled using this technique. Create the problem, then the solution.
  8. I'm surprised that Pro-Celebrity Boxing never really took off, tbh.
  9. Hate to sound cynical, but maybe those charges are the reason this "foundation" was started in the first place?
  10. Could have been just a titter. Or even a minor chortle.
  11. Yes, agree. Pitbulls are indeed marketed here in Thailand (on FB and other outlets) on their strength and aggression, to a certain 'proxy-toughguy' mentality buyer base.
  12. ^Yep, seems to be a more 'upcountry' phenomenon with the noise pollution thing. Living in a busy area of Rayong, it's at least quiet of a night time and I usually get a decent night's sleep before work in the morning, same as most of the neighbours, I guess. If you live upcountry, I doubt there is much you can do to prevent noise. Even industrial ear-plugs don't muffle the bass 'kick' from those huge speakers. Maybe get in some power-naps or "siestas" like the locals during day time?
  13. The political art of pishing down the peasant's backs, and glibly informing them that it's raining. ????
  14. Beer Laos holds up well against competition from a lot further afield than LOS, imo. But you are correct, it puts it's supposedly wealthier Southern neighbor to shame with the meagre selection of cartel-operated, junkies-pish fayre produced here.
  15. "Fa-losty da sanow man" sang by chipmunks on helium will be pumping out at 140dB from most Thai shopping malls within a few weeks. Hurrah!
  16. Lotus's's's's' do a Penfold's (Koonunga Hill) Shiraz for less than 700 Baht. It's the only time I bother shopping there, tbh. A local mom 'n pop shop has started selling a range of wines. Usually a bit hit 'n miss obviously for any wine under 500-, but the missus struck lucky with a bottle of dry red named "Knight Black Horse" which was actually very good for a paltry 290 Baht. Certainly avoided it's normal fate as a boeuf bourguignon ingredient, anyway. ????
  17. Age old question.. If you want a proper job, get a professional in.. ????
  18. Are the recent hold-ups and long queues in any way due to increased security for the APEC meetings?
  19. The queues are always bad at "long weekend" national holidays, and actual weekends starting on Fridays. I've never had any problems when avoiding these time frames.
  20. Last 20 years? -Personally speaking, I grew up a bit, got married, finally became a father in my 40's. Still working at the company I started here, nearly 30 years ago. Drink a lot less than I used to do, and exercise a lot more. I go back to the UK at least once a year to visit family and friends, and see a lot of change. Mostly not for the better, imo. Still, it does give me a better perspective of life here in Thailand, and reduces any mountains back into molehills on an annual basis.
  21. Put footie shirts on the soi dogs.
  22. That has been a worldwide trend. Due to the pandemic; small-medium, and even large (unconnected) businesses have gone to the wall, to be consumed by conglomerates in the biggest wealth transfer of our times.
  23. But there are actual convicted drug dealers in Govt. ???? Sounds a bit like a revamp of Thaksin's "war on drugs", using extra-judicial means. Great.
