Carman Tells Mother Pattaya Arrest Is Real

The mother of Australian murder suspect Simon Carman initially believed widely shared footage of her son’s arrest in Thailand had been created using artificial intelligence as part of an online scam, before he confirmed the allegations against him were real.

Get today's headlines by email image.png

Wendy Carman, 68, reportedly sent a message to her son after seeing videos of his arrest at Bangkok airport, asking whether the family was being targeted by scammers. According to police sources cited by the Daily Mail, she believed the footage was fake because Carman had been living in Thailand.

Carman, 45, had already been arrested over the death of 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla, whose body was found inside a suitcase abandoned beside railway tracks near Pattaya. CCTV allegedly showed Carman riding a scooter with the suitcase strapped to the back before police detained him at Bangkok airport while he was preparing to board a Jetstar flight to Perth.

Police said Carman claimed he was returning to Australia to collect a replacement bank card after losing his original card and intended to return to Thailand within days. After his passport, luggage and mobile phone were seized, officers briefly allowed him to use his phone once it was no longer required as evidence.

According to police sources, reading his mother’s message caused Carman to become visibly emotional. One source said he broke down after saying, “Even my mum’s heard about it,” before replying that everything she had seen was true and that he probably would not see his family for a long time.

Carman appeared in court, where he was denied bail after a judge ruled he posed a flight risk. He was remanded in custody for 84 days, the maximum period investigators can request before filing an indictment, and transferred to Pattaya Remand Prison, where he is being held in the hospital wing with five other inmates.

Police said Carman has cooperated with investigators but has not requested visits, phone calls or legal representation. Australian consular officials remain in contact with both Carman and Thai authorities but have not visited him in person.

Detectives allege Carman placed the teenager’s body inside a 74cm suitcase, left it in his bathroom overnight, then transported it by motorbike to railway tracks near Pattaya’s floating market the following evening. He faces either the death penalty or life imprisonment if convicted, while Tunchanok’s father, Thongchai Donhomla, has rejected any financial settlement, saying he wants the legal process to take its course.

over 50% of certain types of serial killers have reported experiencing psychological abuse

So 49% had no abuse but became serial killers. Toss of the coin.

Load of nonsense, some people are just bad and that's it, regardless of their upbringing.

Psychiatrist claptrap, trying to find justification when there is none.

Yes, @rwill admitting to the crime reduces the sentence, pretty much standard in many countries around the globe.

As I mentioned, some are born that way, but it's a small percentage. I did say usually, and not all the time. About 30% are from "normal" homes, but seeing no one was living in those homes besides the parents and eventual killer, they could be lying or exaggerating what went on to protect themselves.

Gang activity, which children get into from usually an abusive or neglective home, has many murder people. Until it's know his background, it's easy to look up why these things happen...............................https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8415833/

30 to 50% are from normal homes. So home life plays a role but not that major.

NB Thanks for the psycho babble -- I don't know that anyone has seriously suggested Carman is a serial killer. From all that has been divulged, I do not believe the late Ms. Cake was lured to Carman's room with the intent to kill her.

This from 3 days ago:

Accused murderer Simon Peter Carman spent much of the past decade isolating himself from many of his friends and family in Australia, according to those who knew him.

The ABC understands Mr Carman had little contact with his parents and siblings, and preferred to spend his time in Thailand, where he's been living since late last year.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-07-04/who-is-simon-carman-thai-teenager-murder-case/106857974

No, I'm not saying he is either, although this might not be the first victim of his. Isolation is a huge symptom of a mental illness , which can be depression or a lot worse. People don't just start killing innocents without some past behavioral problems. It can be held back awhile before they explode like this, or started by killing animals for pleasure. Serial killers always start with one person. Crimes of passion are another thing entirely, which this could have been, but anger to make a person kill another comes from somewhere.................https://maamodt.asp.radford.edu/research%20-%20forensic/2005%2020-1-Mitchell-40-47.pdf.

Jerry , how can you be so sure that he was not a serial killer or had committed other murders ? Look at the facts ...he had an empty suitcase on the ready , he chose a very small bodied victim that would fit , after stuffing her in the case he left her in the bathroom and carried on as normal all day. Did his laundry , went shopping ,had a couple of meals at his local restuarant , bought some beers at the 7/11 , and watched a movie as if nothing had happened. Then at 9.15 pm he put the case with the body on his motorbike and dumped her at his pre-selected site. If this was the first time this grub had ever done this kind of thing do you think that he would just have a normal relaxing day or would he be panicking and stressed out ? If I were the Police I would be checking all missing persons lists in the Pattaya area for other possible victims.

Not just Pattaya. Thai national and Oz police should also be going through his past with a fine tooth comb - everywhere he's lived, cold cases from those periods and areas, and cold cases from the routes of his trucking career. We had one of those recently in Europe. Corpses of young women strewn all over the continent.

The other thing is that even if he hasn't done this before, he has now. It's up to society to make sure he never gets the chance to do it again regardless of his mental state or previous surgeries or any kind of mitigating conditions. We can't have another unsuspecting teenage sex worker falling into his claws again under any circumstances.

Poor lass.

I never said I was sure . I said: - I don't know that anyone has seriously suggested Carman is a serial killer.

The Pattaya and adjacent police have analyzed the 2 unsolved suitcase murders and have said that there have no evidence to connect Carmen.

The actions of people like this is usually started with a very damaged childhood. Abuse, neglect and other trauma over that time has them going into the world thinking control and aggression is how problems are solved. nature and nurture, with some born with a predisposition to this behavior, unemotional traits, but an abusive home life exacerbates it, having that person entering the world with no empathy and prone to violence.

That mom stands by her son is not unusual, an urge to protect her son, denial, culpability feelings and a want to protect the family's reputation, her albeit being a likely part of his actions as an adult.

When parents are absent or present and dangerous, the child doesn't learn one of the major basics of life, respect for life itself, humans and animals, and is how most serial killers get their starts.

Mum’s fault then obviously.

It’s almost as if she packed the suitcase herself.

No telling until he's psychoanalyzed. I'm thinking she's aware of what her son is, although maybe not this deranged.

I think you are trying too hard with this case. Seems like it was a sexual transaction that went wrong. He got angry about something and either accidentally or on purpose killed her. People lose their temper no matter how good or bad they have been brought up, especially if they feel sighted or cheated.

I was just offering a maybe. Yes, it could have been a person that was on the edge and just went over it because she said or did something he couldn't handle, but that's where being brought up to control your temper and not go over the edge because someone slights you in some way. If you think about it, what could have been the worst thing she could have done to bring on this result?

Turned him down for sex or laughed at the size of his todger but more likely because of a disagreement over the price.

So then you should remember that his first 2 victims were a couple sitting in a parked car.

Sure. What I meant was that it starts with one.It has to start somewhere First he shot one and then the other. Bad timing had two there at that first time. He also killed single victims. Most start with one victim. That's what begins the series, a learning tool for them. The Hillside Stranglers, cousins, started out with two also.

What I think is that there is no plausible indication either in Thailand or in Australia that Mr. Carman was involved in any other homicide.

No, possibly not. This could have been his first or tenth. Like some news here, we sometimes don't get updates. At least he was arrested and can't do it again.

WA Premier Roger Cook said Mr Carman had "various interactions" with police while he lived in WA, including having his firearms confiscated.

Court records show his gun licence was suspended in 2023, and he tried and failed to get it back.

This is just conspiracy theory stuff, using random facts to suit a particular narrative.

To look at your “evidence”:

  1. There are five empty suitcases in my house right now of varying sizes. We use them when we travel and they sit empty in our house when we are at home.

  2. A lot of Thai teenagers are a small size and assuming he picked her for sex at his place, maybe he prefers girls of a small stature. Many men do and they aren’t serial killers.

  3. Maybe he continued his normal routine because he was trying to work out what to do and the brain surgery that he had slowed his thinking.

I’m surprised that you missed out that he had knives in his cutlery drawer, so he must be a serial killer.

I mean, come on. I don’t doubt he killed the girl, my own opinion is that it was an argument, that became a fight, that ended in murder.

There is nothing that suggests he targeted his victim with murder in mind and even less than nothing that suggests he is a serial killer.

I admire and thank the scientific input of the self-proclaimed psychologists and psychiatrists on ASEAN Now. I am deeply honored to be able to enjoy these profound diagnoses made by them based on nougat balls. Nevertheless, I will attempt to provide a small theoretical contribution. Whatever the upbringing an individual received, if that person is not genetically affected, they will never commit murderous or related acts under normal circumstances.

Like so many others, especially in America lately, they have them on radar but nothing's done until a tragedy strikes. Understandably they can't be arrested for sketchy behavior.
