Thai hotel criticised for warning guests about light-fingered ‘ladyboys’

Adam Smith

BANGKOK: -- A Thai hotel has been criticised for warning guests about bringing ‘ladyboys’ back to their room.

Guests at The Omni Complex Hotel in Bangkok were given a form to be filled out in event they invite a sex worker to their room.

Bangkok has the one of the biggest populations of sex workers and transgender communities in the world and its record on LGBT issues is among the best in Asia.

If I am reading this correctly, the Hotel gives out the form if you go back with a katoey, presumably to make sure you are aware of what you have picked up, which seems fair enough as some newbies cant tell the difference till its too late. I hear the scream of protest from Gay rights people, but it cannot be denied that Lady-boys do have a pretty poor reputation when it comes to thefts, so I think the warning is fair.

I would just forbid any ladyboy or soidog on the hotelpremises.

Maybe they should open special gayhotels where ladyboys can work as staff and be sexworkers as well..

Good warning. Nothing wrong with that. They are just known for having the longest finger in the world. Guess Giunness Record Book will have a go at that one.

Following accusations of Transphobia on the part of the hotel in the UK Gay Press, I have replied to the newspaper concerned, stating that all the negativity about LBs is fully justified. Not only do heterosexual men "make mistakes" (the only difference between a heterosexual man and a bisexual one is about 4 cans of Singha...)---but the LBs are ostracised by Thais and Farang as well, which is normally justified although this does have its reasons. Part of the problem is that, because they have nothing to lose, they will lift anything or rob anything. They will also up the price, and attempt to pickpocket or steal if agreement is not reached. I know somebody who was even "robbed" of a 35b box of Kleenex when he took a Katoey home by mistake or by design. It is worth adding here that a small percentage of LBs are nice people who feel no urge to be manly, and may feel themselves born in the incorrect gender. The many bad LBs on Beach Road make it hard for the decent few.

Of course, there are some "normal" men who adore ladyboys. The small ads on Craigslist are full of them.

LBs, especially in gangs of 3-4, are AYOR. But let us bear in mind that they live within a vicious spiral, in that very few can get a "proper job" or afford to live in a nice condo. Once shunned by family, most doctors, and even the army, there is nothing left but hookering or stealing, plus an easy passage into illegal drugs which might bring about some measure of relief, or bestow more bravado. The whole saga is really quite sad, but LBs have always existed here, even within palaces and beauty parlours.

Outraged, eh?  Boo-hoo.  LBs have become a scourge and it just makes sense to warn guests.  (Not sure what dancing baby has to do with anything tho'.)

Warn the world I say,,, take back to your apartment at your peril, great warning & absolves the

Management of any responsibility when things go missing or get hurt with a belt over the head with a stiletto

I thought prostitution is illegal in Thailad ????

I think Thailand is the hub of ladyboys, don't know any other country with so many of them.

This is a great initiative on behalf of the hotel, which should become a common practice.... I see this as proactive and responsible initiative

perhaps the wording could be revised, and another form should be drafted for female prostitutes, which would take the sting out of it for the lgbtwhatthehellwasitcommunity.

also... the hotel does have the right to know who is staying in their building... even should know who is in their building, for safety and security

just correlating the director's first name with the song... I imagine he was conceived while it was playing, which might have set the stage for his future endeavors...

It's a good idea not sure about the form but a info sheet is a great idea

Lady Boys are renowned for sticky fingers i hear it all the time and it's  not just  lady boys it's sex workers in general

Buyer beware???

But I have to say Im so tired of this gay right shit

Every person that meets me thinks I'm gay I'm not I'm straight do you hear me complaining about it NO I suck it up and move on

This chip on the shoulder crap it's 2017, not 1955, people have never been more open to gay Rights then ever before!!

I think the hotel is  just tired of guests complaining there stuff has  been stolen after a night of passion be it a man or a lady

Its there Bussiness to run not the sex workers??,

Each hotel and its management reserves the right practice its own rules, I don't see anything wrong in it. Besides its for the safety of the guests.

Yeah, sure! Maybe it would be better to just accept the way you were born instead. Pretty simple solution for most people.

No, no! First I just had to be a ladyboy. After that I just had to operate myself. Now I wear make-up and skirt everyday, and nobody seems to be willing to give me my dream job. It all result in that all I´ve done to myself makes me so depressed. Now my life is shit and I have to cheat and steal for a living, so I can afford all the drugs I need for live with what I´ve done to myself. If people don´t give me and my 3 friends what we what, we also have to hit and kick on people to get it anyway.

I guess you hear how stupid that sounds, right?

This is going to be a good one for the LGBT (or whatever it's called, it seems to change everyday) ...

The latest I saw was LGBTQX, or perhaps it was LGBTQX+

I agree with what you say, but we didn't need the clip thanks...

The LGBGT lot can whistle (well if they can) and the warning should be at huge sign at the airports and in all immigration halls.

(No I have never been caught out)
