Thai Rath announced that dawn raids targeting "foreigners of color" were carried out by special branch and tourist police in Bangkok this morning.

Surachet Hakpan - chief of 191 - said that the raids were targeting colored gangs causing trouble in Thailand.

Crimes included fraud and skimming and Surachet said that the raids were conducted due to serious economic impact on Thailand of the criminal activity.

Among those subjected to search warrants were footballers and language teachers and other trouble makers, he said.

The raids took place in Lat Prao, On Nut and Ramkhamhaeng beginning at 7am. A news conference to announce the full results was expected later today.

But Thai Rath already gave some details of two men who were raided in their apartments at a condo in Lat Prao Soi 107.

In Room 401 of the unnamed condo they found an African called Bogba Francis, 31, who was an ex-tutor.

In his account he had evidence of transactions amounting to 5 million baht.

In Room 507 a search warrant was served on Paul Mokube from Cameroon aged 27. He is a language teacher at Methanee School.

Nothing illegal was found in their rooms but police were awaiting the results of urine tests.

I see nothing in this article that says any of the "foreigners of color" targeted had actually committed any crimes, so it seems to have been a purely racist raid. It now seems that if you are colored and a footballer or a teacher you are instantly deemed a trouble maker, which is a pretty sad indictment on the Thai cops.

Must have been a great tutor. Retired at 31 with 5 million in the bank ! :cheesy:

Glad to see this being done. Thailand is NOT politically correct! Being PC is the biggest problem to stopping this. Have you ever been to the Nana area? Target the problem makers and forget being PC. Have a clue! ...Racist? lmfao.

But with at least the two named individuals, thus far, he has not been able to provide a single shred of actual evidence of wrongdoing to back that statement up.

You are glad to see colored people being rounded up indiscriminately? When I read the story it said there was nothing incriminating found with the two fellas. I don't dispute there is trouble in the area, but that shouldn't give license to just kicking in the door of anyone in that part of town just because they are black. Targeting trouble makers is all very well, but targeting any random black person just because they are black is not.

Hogwash! You target the people that are creating the problem. You do not target everybody to make the PC idiots happy because you will get little accomplished. Blacks are a major problem in this area and they should be targeted. If they have done nothing wrong, they will be free to carry on. The police obviously had tips to kick in their doors. Have clue! This was not random!! Whew!!!!

Exactly. Because of PC and being afraid of offending the Muslim community in a city in the UK many young girls were groomed and abused while the authorities stood by and did nothing.

And while we are on that subject, there is periodic whining by some that 'people of colour' are overly targeted by the authorities in both the UK and USA, with a disproportionate number being jailed. Guess what. That's because they commit a disproportionate number of crimes. Why that is so is a subject for another day. Before I'm accused of being racist, let me admit to having been married to a coloured girl while in the UK, I shared a house with an Indian family, and I'm married to an Asian now.

Shame the police in the Nana area don't do anything. African guys openly dealing drugs with police sat metres away. Mainly at the corner of Suk 13 but all around the area. Couple of nights ago a couple of police were stood with 4-5 African guys laughing and joking.

The police do nothing. As someone said in a thread a few days ago it will be great when the Hyatt opens on that corner - hopefully the hotel security won't be as accepting of people dealing in front of their hotel. Not suggesting that the security themselves will care either way but would guess orders will come down to sort it if reviews start appearing saying there are people selling drugs directly outside the hotel.

How many people and properties were raided?

How many ARRESTED?

You raided all these places because you have solid information to make you carry out such raid YET you have nothing solid to show except 2 guys that you mentioned above with no real crime committed.

It is pure RACISM but then again it is a police culture to hide their inability to  arrest local top criminals.?

You know nothing of what the police really have or their reasons for the raids on these people. Pure racism? lmfao. You are promoting police ineffectiveness!! Target those they know are breaking the law. You want the police do this to everybody to be PC. What a waste of time!! Have a clue, Mr PC!!!!

This has nothing to do with racism, and all to do with the fact that a large part of people who grew up in countries like Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana and a few others, and took up residence in Europe or Asia, have a criminal history. They know only too well how to play the racism and PC card (works really well in Europe), keep among themselves (pretty hard to place a non-black snitch in their organisations), and they're pretty good at their various illegal businesses. When was the last time anyone saw a person from any of those notorious African countries holding a proper, legal job (outside the odd football player)? And yet quite a few live in Thailand, and are somehow able to pay their rent etc. Wake up and smell the roses...
