Food places with big queues and history!

Hi guys,

I'm always looking to find a good food place that survived the test of time (50 years+). Does anyone know good places in Bangkok? Chinese or Thai or any other cuisine?

I was recommended Prachak Roasted Duck as having the best duck in town. It was certainly a gem to find! Very cheap, good, 100 years of history and a great atmosphere.

Thanks!

See Fah has been around since the thirties. But now it's a chain and not really a shadow of its former self. Still, it has certainly stood the test of time.  I'm not sure if the original location still exists.

Go to the Old Siam mall in Chinatown...there are famous shops in there who deliver to the palaces since a long long time. Especially the desserts there are famous...sticky rice with durian or mango.

Also this week my wife brought me kao pad gai from chinatown, Suki was the brand....very good with real pieces of chicken (not sliced fillet) but for 180 baht not cheap.

There are many gems to find in Chinatown but the place is so overcrowded that it's a crime to stroll around there.

But the longest qeueu's i've seen are for Sizzlers and MK-suki...not what you're looking for.

Thai and their ridiculous best-in-the-world-food-places always amaze me ! None of all the famous place that I have visited was better than any other standard not famous place. Best example: pratunam chicken + rice Khao Man Guy that has nothing better than any street chicken + rice !

A terrific topic for a $0.99 Kindle book. There's more than one on Bangkok's best restaurants. But none on little offbeat places with history and/or a cult following.

Btw, this guy blogs on Thai food and his photography in particular is excellent:

But the great little places need more coverage. There used to be terrific Isaan restaurant on Soi Rang Naam (believe called Tida Isaan) which used be packed for lunch and dinner by mostly Thais, so it was authentic for sure, but closed recently for an upscale coffee shop to open in its place. Go figure.

You better ask this to a Thai who's very familiar in Chinatown.

Many times people give us presents (food) bought in Chinatown of very good quality...things like satay or cookies or desserts or ricedishes.

Never believe websites as tripadvisor, we tried a few of their top-rated restaurants but always were disappointed...i guess only western tourists like to rate there but they even are to ignorant to go out of the hotel-area's.

Would be nice to know which restaurants are allowed to deliver to the palaces, those are the best ones i assume.
