BANGKOK: -- BTS have unveiled new trains that are expected to go into service over the next two years.

The vehicles have been made by German company Siemens and CRRC of China and will be used on existing and new routes.

They feature three new handrails and a space for wheelchairs.

BTS chief Suraphong Laoha-anya said that a total of 46 trains containing 184 compartments had been ordered at a cost of 11 billion baht since May of last year.

The Siemens trains are expected to arrive early next year and be in service by September 2018 after testing phases.

The Chinese vehicles are scheduled to arrive in January 2019 and will be in service later that year.

The trains will service the Sukhumwit Road route from Morchit to Bearing, the National Stadium to Bang Wa route, the Bearing extension and Morchit to Khukhot in Pathum Thani.

The latter is the new green line passing through Ratchayothin and Kasetsart that is currently under construction.

Good news. Khukot station is being built just down the road from us. We'll use that and these trains will be good as my son is a wheelchair user.

Wonder if they will include an elevator when building the station?

What's the use, if the wheelchair can't get to the station?

Don't be daft, there'll be a 20 year feasibility study first

Why  do some people persist in posting that?

Bloody stupid and misleading as those barriers are there for a purpose and are perfectly ok, as that photo only shows half of the barriers, go in turn right, then turn left easy.
