Sharing an m3u playlist on Dropbox or similar?

Hi,

I need some help please? In the past I used to create an m3u playlist of several TV channels I would share around the home by simply saving it on public Dropbox with my PC and getting the http url to type into any media player on any device around the house, usually Kodi or Perfect Player. Then the full list of channels would populate the player from the url provided.

In the past this used to work, but now it doesn't anymore? I also cannot get the url to play as a network link in VLC player on my PC, but if I open the actual m3u file with VLC it plays OK.

** What am I doing wrong with the url method? How does one get an url from the internet of ones own person playlist to play on an IPTV player?

Thanks for any feedback guys.

No user/pwd needed as I use the public folder that creates an internet url for the m3u file playlist to send to anyone to open file. In past I would put this url in Kodi IPTV players etc and the playlist would display all the channels..

Judging by your reply it should still work then? Must be senility setting in my old age as I can no longer seem to work it, will keep on trying I guess.

Thanks.

Are you sure the "public" folder is still "public"  ie the permissions haven't changed ?

try making a new/different public folder and put your  playlist in there then point your player to it

like http://my new public folder/my.m3u

is the dropbox dropbox or some other provider ?

if you have a device that is always on you could perhaps host the file locally and cut out the maybe not up at the time internet connection.

It's been a while since I've played around wth dropbox for this kind of thing but how are you generating the link?

I seem to remember that you had to change the first part to dl.dropboxcontent.com or something like that to download the file directly.

Thanks Guys this helped me jog the old memory cells. FYI I was talking about Dropbox.com not some other.

Johng you are correct! It seems Dropbox NO LONGER offers public folders for free subscribers?! I didn't notice when this happened. On my Windows10 explorer when I right clicked on a file in the Public folder it used to offer on context menu an option to "Copy Public Link" (the internet url) and now it just offers "Copy Dropbox Link" which isn't public?

Yes, I remember now. Infact it was https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1234567  where 1234567 was your public account. If one tries to prefix that on a file now it doesn't work anymore.

Finding this out is annoying as besides m3u playlists I used to use Public Dropbox to send other files in form of url to users to simply gain access to my file immediately without need for them to register.

** Therefore can anymore suggest another service that I can use that is free where I can dump a file (anyfile but in this case m3u playlist) and send it to someone else to open without the end user having to log on to a service first?

You could try pastebin.com and make sure you link to the raw data. Can't remember the specifics off the top of my head.

Yes, that works and is exactly what I need to replace the Dropbox public method that no longer works. I opened a Pastebin account and created a RAW link - this plays immediately in my VLC, IPTV players around the home.

Many thanks for your kind help folks.
