I sincerly hope those guys are not running out water hoses to squirt on it

If you watch the bottom left of the VDO they are indeed running out a hose!

Where I used to live in Lamphun there were regular explosive noises from transformers. Apparently snakes liked to lie on them and short circuited the connections. Just blew the breakers though, and power back on in 30 minutes.

The one at the hospital looks like the real deal though.

What is the difference between the electric system and delivery here compared against for example, Morocco, or New York or anywhere temperate in the USA? I am asking why transformers here need so much maintenance and are often failing and needing repair. I gave these two examples of places I know well and have lived in for extended periods of time and the electric runs better. Morocco is chosen specifically because although we had frequent outages the transformers were not going 'boom' as they do here.

Is it the tropical heat? or the delivery system?

They are the Golden Tree Snake and are attracted to the HT hum.

I have had one get between two phases of my TP transformer on the HT side, cost me around 50k in damage to two of the big HT insulator  fuse carriers,  the subsequent blow back surge into the house destroyed air cons and CCD cameras.

Unfortunately even a tiny 5 or 10a mcb does not clear fast enough when faced with those kind of fault levels.

There are 2 kinds of maintenance: preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance. If the first one doesn't exist, you will have to repair a lot...

I was struggling a while to learn which "Pattaya Hospital" it is.

It's indeed the fairly new "Pattaya City Hospital" between Soi Buakhao and 3rd road.

Ironically the fire brigade hardly has to move it's vehicles as their main station is on the premises about 50m(?) from the explosion :shock1:

From a different perspective:

A huge mess.

Patients on ICU beds pushed over the yard.

Pre term born, post operation patients needing oxygen.

To where?

ICU monitor devices, oxygen etc.

A life threatening situation for those patients.

Routine inspections:-

Is there any sign of a problem.

Any sign of water ingress.

All relevant panels closed and secured.

Any oil leak.

etc.

I'm guessing you're not an engineer.

I saw a lot of them being helped and carried over to the blue hospital just to the south on soi bua khao. Wheelchaired them to the steps then forced up on their feet. Tiny babies in arms too. Some ambulances brought some patients away, to other hospitals I presume, but were not moving fast as traffic was a gridlock with all the gawkers.

Oil level.  Checks on the oil for various contaminants and condition.

Oil change periodically.

Clear breathing holes.

Cooling system functional checks, etc, Used to make a living out of it in Saudi Arabia,  Even cleaning of the bushings etc as there is a lot of grunge build up here. An internet search will produce requirements.

That must have been a mess as being a fit pedestrian in that area is deadly!

Hopefully nobody tried.

But, then again, why not, it would be culling the worlds population by natural selection? :whistling:

Okay, a flippant remark - sorry to those who maybe offended. The locals do this very well on their roads, unfortunately.
