Shopping theft in Big C Samui

Featured Replies

To the guy who stole a plastic carrier bag (from a number of bags in my shopping trolley)  inside Big C whilst I stood at the Bangkok Bank ATM yesterday , shame on you, and on the day of the Kings anniversary!! I hope you choke on the white chocolate and Macadamia biscuits, and my full of nuts breakfast cereal!! Had to buy the bag of goods again and cost me nearly 500 baht.

Has as anyone else experienced this? Maybe I am just too blissfully, trustingly naive of the lovely Thai people I've met on this island ?

Chocolate was ok biscuits and cereal horrible. Next time, avoid cheap brands and pick up some dark chocolate.

Wow.  Didn't see who took it, but it must have been a 'guy', or a lovely Thai person.

Hopefully this becomes one of those damned 'teachable moments' for you and you'll learn something from it.

How would one assume that the thief was a Thai ?

We don`t know, but anyone who steals white chocolate, Macadamia biscuits and full of nuts breakfast cereal, must have extremely bad taste.

Well all a matter of life...some buy this stuff,  others steal it...

Maybe it's like that time out in somewhat rural New Mexico when I lost track of my Thai wife.  Couldn't find her in the grocery store among all the Navajos.  I was the only white man in there.

There are documented (videoed) cases of farangs stealing bags and their contents in various shopping malls and restaurants in Pattaya. And, of course, many cases of Thais doing the same and also doing drive-by motorbike snatches, which I personally think are worse than stealth crimes.

Did you forget it at the supermarket check-out? Easily done, particularly if you have a number of bags.

If not, I am always very aware of my surroundings, possessions and people around me when using an ATM. It is good practice to continually look around, particularly in the UK where Romanians and North Africans specialise in ATM thefts. There have in the past few years been numerous examples of Eastern European or North African gangs of thieves operating in Thailand's holiday resorts like Samui.
