I think it's quite humorous golfers still refer to drivers etc. as woods, when they've all been made of metal for many years now. Greg Norman has always claimed he can hit persimmon woods better than the modern "woods". Having seen him hit drivers off the fairway several times in tournaments, I'm inclined to believe him. In my younger days, a golfing friend of mine with huge natural talent enjoyed pissing me off by outdriving me with a putter. Mind you, he did go through quite a lot of putters.
