Three Taiwanese women arrested as alleged call centre scammers

Crime Suppression Division officials have arrested three Taiwanese women on suspicion that they are members of a call centre scam gang.

 

CSD Sub-Division 1 commander Pol Colonel Thongchai Yuksem told a press conference on Friday that Chen Yi-Hsui, 27, Hsieh Yu-Han, 44, and Hsieh Yu-Chun, 22, were arrested in Bangkok’s Wang Thong Lang district on Thursday. Yu-Han and Yu-Chun are mother and daughter.

 

Thongchai said the three were arrested while withdrawing cash from an ATM machine at the front of Soi Lard Prao 87.

 

Thongchai said police found seven ATM cards, 23 ATM slips and Bt340,000 in cash on the three. Police later checked the three bank accounts and found they have Bt700,000 remaining in the accounts so police told the banks to freeze the accounts.

 

The CSD conducted an investigation and located the three women after it received a tip-off from the Siam Commercial Bank. The bank reported that some Taiwanese women had collaborated with some Thais to call targets and convince them to transfer money to another bank account. The victims were told that their accounts were being investigated.

 

The SCB detected that the three Taiwanese women had been withdrawing money from several ATM machines since Tuesday.

 

Thongchai said the CSD is now trying to hunt down accomplices.
