Taxi meters

Featured Replies

Are the Taxi's using the meters like they were ordered to do or is Uber still my choice ? Last promotion was for next 10 rides you got 60 Baht off each ride ( it ended today but made my last weeks Uber rides about half of normal fares they charge .... amazing service that changed much for me in Pattaya . In Bangkok I got Skytrain and MRT but Pattaya / Jomtien none of that .

Who trusts the Bangkok Taxi cheats ?

(naturally, I am not refering to the widely publicized  "quality" taxi drivers who return lost bags of money to their customers)

"No meter."

That is the response I got from a registered by taxi last week. Then he wanted 150 baht from the bottom of Buddha Hill to Foodland in Jomtien. That'sless than a five minute ride.

I don't think it isn't possible to get a taxi to use the meter in Pattaya.

Isnt Uber illegal in Thailand?

Just sharing a ride , that's legal [emoji106]

Don't think it's legal for a taxi driver to tell you he won't use the meter [emoji849]

I think the bone of contention for many is that an Illegal Service such as UBER is far Safer and far more reliable than the legal Taxi service who's drivers are hell bent on breaking the law....

So, I care little for the legalities and choose the better service.

Last I heard the official order is that Pattaya taxi meters now are all required to use meters.

Have yet to hear even one report that any have.

Also not only is Uber illegal, so is Grab.

Have yet to hear that they have actually stopped operating.

Amusing country, eh?:stoner:

They are all embroiled in a turf war where lawlessness is the order of the day. Try to steer clear of the "crossfire" if you choose Uber or Grab. Paying for a ride in a car should be risk free, whether that involves being ripped off or ambushed.

Uber and Grab are illegal yes, but only because some government hill-billy in Bangkok thought he could do it better and started his own taxi-booking-app..........well at least that was the plan.

Never heard of it eversince.
