Provincial authorities declared an emergency in parts of Khon Kaen yesterday after a decision was made to release water from Ubonrat Dam.

The amount of water being released was raised from 50 million cubic meters to 54 million as levels in the dam rose dangerously.

This caused severe flooding in many areas near the dam.

Thai media was saying that the locals were being sacrificed to save the downtown business area of the north eastern city.

Deputy governor Santi Laobunsangiam held a crisis meeting and ordered the setting up of emergency stations to help villagers who are running out of food and supplies.

Floodwaters in areas such as Samran district have topped one meter with homes and and shops suffering severely.

Offered on the altar of money?

Wouldn't be surprised at all.

However, the nearer to the outlet the higher the probability of flooding.

Well, as a fine, upstanding Dutchman perhaps you could perform a civic duty by sticking your finger in it?

Who would guess that the dam holding about 116% of its full capacity would require release that would flood downstream? Sometimes a decision made late is not better than never.

the rain seems to be finished here now maybe slow the gate valve a little
