rooster59 Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 Khon Kaen villages in crisis as water released from Ubonrat Dam Image: Thai Rath Provincial authorities declared an emergency in parts of Khon Kaen yesterday after a decision was made to release water from Ubonrat Dam. The amount of water being released was raised from 50 million cubic meters to 54 million as levels in the dam rose dangerously. This caused severe flooding in many areas near the dam. Thai media was saying that the locals were being sacrificed to save the downtown business area of the north eastern city. Deputy governor Santi Laobunsangiam held a crisis meeting and ordered the setting up of emergency stations to help villagers who are running out of food and supplies. Who would guess that the dam holding about 116% of its full capacity would require release that would flood downstream? Sometimes a decision made late is not better than never.
