The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will cook up to 1.5 million food boxes a day to hand out to mourners participating in the Royal Cremation of HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

BMA deputy permanent secretary Vanchai Thanomsak said yesterday that food boxes from the BMA would be distributed at 119 locations across the capital.

“The distribution is designed for people placing sandalwood flowers in remembrance of the late King on the day of the Royal Cremation,” he said.

In addition to the Royal Crematorium at Sanam Luang, sandalwood flowers can also be placed at various replicas of the Royal Crematorium and temples in Bangkok.

The Royal Cremation Ceremonies for the late monarch will run from October 25 to 29, with the actual cremation to take place on October 26.

Vanchai said the private sector had given the BMA two million drinking-water bottles for distribution as well.

“Many schools, temples and private facilities will also open their doors to mourners who may need to use toilets,” he said.

He said these willing contributors would place a sticker so that people knew where they could drop in.

Between October 23 and 26, 164 schools and temples in the capital have signed up to provide lodging to mourners.
