Land Transport Dept to launch TAXI-OK project on Nov 9

BANGKOK, 30th October 2017 (NNT) - The Department of Land Transport is expected to officially launch its TAXI-OK application on November 9th to raise the standards of taxi services in Bangkok.

Director of the Land Transport Department, Sanit Promwong revealed today that the department is informing and educating taxi operators about the new application.

Via this mobile app, passengers will be charged an additional 50 baht on top of the actual metered fare.

Around 50,000 taxis are expected to join the project this year and 20,000 more will follow next year. Operators whose licenses have expired will need to renew them before they can enroll in the TAXI-OK program.

70,000 taxis expected to join - that's about the total number in Bangkok. So, all will be the same but for an extra 50 baht. Amazing Thailand.

Yes, of course all those that join will be the same and the extra B50 will apply for those booking online.

Drivers who want to participate in the “Taxi Ok” project must not have criminal records, and their taxis must not be older than two years and be registered as public transportation. Once accepted, they must install a GPS tracking device in their car, CCTV camera, and an emergency button that will send a signal from the passenger to the app center.

I suppose you can find something wrong with those requirements also?

Nope, can’t find anyone wrong with those. If all those requirements are made and upheld I’ll be impressed. Can you point out where it mentions them in the original article?

Almost all other countries have an extra fee for ordering a taxi by application or phone. Nothing Thai specific. Where is the problem.

@Just Wierd. Thanks for the useful info.

How about the Land transport department remind taxi drivers that is there job? They are taxi drivers and stop refusing to take customers Also prob top priority for this dept is how to stop 26,000 Thai from killing themselves on the roads
