Another Pattaya own goal as tourists falling out of the new beach chairs

Sophon reported a host of problems associated with the delivery of the new beach chairs and umbrellas on Pattaya beach.

The "earth tone" umbrellas, white loungers and green cushions were supposed to bring order out of chaos by standardizing and beautifying the operations of more than 100 vendors on the resorts' beaches.

Instead tourists have been toppling out of the recliners that don't seem to have been tested on sand.

In addition tourists paying 100 baht a time have been baked in the heat from two angles - there are not enough umbrellas to keep out the scorching midday sun and the cushions actually retain heat making a beach lie down something akin to a wartime torture.

Operator Wanchai Lertnirandorn, 57, was appreciative of the authorities doling out the equipment and a sponsor (Chang) getting involved but he was not happy with the new measures.

He said that the chairs were more suitable to a hard surface and when foreigners leaned they became unstable.

Many had fallen out of them and it was only the softness of the stand that prevented injury.

What with there not being enough umbrellas for each pitch and the green cushions being inappropriate for being in the sun he was not convinced it was a move forward.

Phartrakit Chiawkit, 48, another operator said that some foreigners like the new look but more than a few wish they could just go back to the old equipment that was more comfortable and more suitable for the conditions.

Taking something imperfect, but functioning, and then completely cocking it up, by lack of thought on every level, is about par for the course here. I am sure someone supplying all this crap made a nice earner on the whole mess though.

This article is complete nonsense, anything is better than those cheap wooden deck chairs that have been on Pattaya beach since the 60's, these new loungers are standard issue around the world and are a marked improvement for all concerned

now all they need is water that you can actually swim in without contracting a severe illness or infection

I have seen the Russians falling out of every type of chair usually with a dozen large bottles of Chang close by

Seen a lot of Ozzie guys on the beach and around town,  falling over after two stubby's.

I think this is the norm. as well.  :giggle:

"Another Pattaya own goal"? What is this gibberish? Can someone translate?

Shooting one self in the foot is pretty close but total BS in this rare instance

Here we have a typical design fault. "Somebody" had gotten a nice earn out of doing this and rushes in with an untested, by the sounds of it, inadequate piece of design, that looks good and is less than functional. It doesn't matter where it is, but its just such a waste and pathetic bungling by those involved.

How is this supposed to make people happy. Where is the idea that we can make something really good and get satisfaction from doing it, as well as getting a buck out of it?       Aaah no f. . k that. Lets just get it done and earn a buck.     That attitude is universal and stinks anywhere.

Seems like soistalker has been at the Changs!!!

We've sat on these type of loungers on sand in Khao Lak and on beaches in other countries. Pretty standard - and safe! The point about the pads on them being too hot is equally ridiculous as most people lie on a towel not the bare pad if it is made of vinyl like these.

These chairs are pool chairs designed for hard support like pool deck. It's obviously not supposed to be stable on sand while contact surface is not large enough to cope with moving support. It's like trying to run a Tour de France bicycle on sand.....

I guess you didn't see the pic of the one tipped over.. On concrete!!

Best to read the OP before diving in.

I don't see anything in the OP about one tipping over on concrete - and no picture of such.

The linked "source" just goes to Farcebook, so that's a dead-end for non members.

It looks like the problem is that they have them too close to each other. So the only way to get out, unless you are on one of the end ones, is to scoot forward to the foot of the lounge, where there is no leg support, causing it to tip up.

"akin to a wartime torture"- 555, too funny.

I truly believe it's time for Prayut and the military to investigate this matter, hire some beach chair engineering experts to identify the the design issues and resolve this crisis immediately.

The people cannot tolerate this!
