Health Insurance Options

Featured Replies

What options are there for health insurance in Thailand?  I'm looking for in-patient and out-patient cover insurance for any hospital n Bangkok and surrounding areas.

I've checked the ads on this site and others and have ac couple of options but I'm wondering what else is available and , if possible, some indicative costs

I have in-patient hospital insurance.

I pay for out-patient as and when I need it.

Outpatient cover is almost never worth it in Thailand. OPD costs are not high here, whereas  it about doubles  your premium. Note that most IPD only policies will cover day surgeries, out patient chemotherapy, outpatient dailysis  and procedures like MRI/CT which is pretty much  everything outpatient that really costs much.

Inpatient cover though is essential. Basically your choices are:

1 - a policy issued by a Thai company. Among them MSH seems to offer the best coverage.

2 - an expat policy issued by a UK or EU   based insurer, many of these have direct billing arrangements with Thai hospitals. Cigna and AXA are among the more popular.

When looking at premiums consider deductible and copay options if you can, lowers premiums quite a bot.
