Bang Saen

Featured Replies

What do you think about Bang Saen? Worth to go there one day for having an relaxing saturday/sunday?

Apparently it is thronged on weekends; during the week is quieter. The beach is a straight stretch with lots of deckchairs and many seafood sellers. There is not much of a breeze so it does get a little too hot. There is no smoking allowed on the beach.

On the main road into Bang Saen from Sukhumvit you will pass the Burapha University. There is an aquarium there which is a good place to pass an hour. It is not as good as Underwater World in Na Jomtien.

Near the Northern end of the beach there is a road leading above the town where you can feed monkeys.

Plenty of parking at the beach if you are going in your own car. Also, a minibus from Sukhumvit takes you there for 80 Baht, then a red baht bus to the beach for 10 Baht.

Oh yes, Saturday Sunday it's loaded of Thais who throw garbage along the beach.

The place is a zoo on weekends, but other than holidays is quiet as can be during the week. The Tide Resort is a very nice place to stay, right across from the beach. Just up the road from the beach are many pretty good restaurants. The beach is actually very nice with lots of palm trees, but the water quality isn't the best.

Weekdays are normally fine, avoid weekends at all costs unless you like crowds.

okay i see.. At the weekend not a good idea to go there. What about Bang Pra/ Bang Pra reservoir? a better idea?

Lived in Bangsaen for 3.5 years. It's a nice place if you're looking for a more "Thai" and less touristy place. Seafood is great, people are generally friendly and fun.

Avoid the beach, it's filthy. You'll be either itching from head to toe after a swim, or end up with your feet covered in black filth from oil and other stuff.

It's a student town, so loads of pubs filled with younger Thais partying every night.

If you are aged between 17 and 21....then.... Yes.

My Condo manager sold her property in Bang Saen because of this, she grew up there and is saddened with the way the place is treated by the Thai's coming from all over.  Garbage all over the place, much like Pattaya and Jom Tien at times. I haven;t been there in years, used to like it because it was a Thai place to go, learned a lot of my conversational skills there.

I like the younger crowd so maybe I'll give it a whirl again, haven't been there in years.

Do the white ones go that far? I thought they stopped at Sri Racha. It must take hours.

Oops. My bad. I made confusion between 2 places.

You're right: I think Sri Racha is their North limit.

Best way to go is minibus from Sukhumvit in Pattaya.

There is a night market on Saturday night.  Lots of young Thai couples and a band stage.

It is all about perception. I used to stay in Bang Saen quite a bit before I got married, have lived not too far away for the last 9 years. It can get a bit busy on holiday weekends but most weekends are not too bad if you stay away from the main beach area. The main road comes down past the university and then turns right along the beach. The Thais want to stop as soon as you turn the corner but if you carry right on down to the end of beach road the beach is much quieter. At the end the road forks and if you carry on round to the left there is a promenade area with deck chairs, food and drink facilities. We normally go there as the toilet facilities are better. The deck chair plots also operate differently. On the beach, the vendor only runs the chairs and they will go and buy food and drink for you with a small surcharge. You should be aware that if you are on your own and sit at 4 chairs, you will pay for 4 chairs. On the promenade its different, the vendor runs the food and drink as well as the chairs and you only pay for the chairs used.

If you carry on along the same road you come to the Bang Saen Walking Street area where they hold the markets and musical events. There are a lot of new restaurants in the area, particularly on the new road from Sukhumvit down to the beach road. I am not into steaks and burgers but there used to be a Buffalo Bills in Scandinavian village.

As someone posted, the Tide Resort is very nice, I had my wedding reception there, and they do a very good buffet on a Saturday evening.

Long time since I have been, there was more Thais than westerners last time I was there, which for me was a plus, not many Bars.

Would be interested what it is like now
