<deleted>.  I for one have been mugged here, in Bangkok.  Truth is the dangers are clear, just that these two chancers noticed it was such a common occurrence they assumed they could get away with it with a particularly crappy plot

Such a "common occurrence"? It never happened to any friends, nor me in 15 + years.

Thailand is way safer than many other way "more civilised countries."

Unfortunately I binned the police reports for both.  And this is not even counting being robbed by a maid, a couple of mobiles swiped off bars (careless to be fair) and actually catching a repairman in the act of rumaging through drawers whilst fixing a water heater.  Fact is this lot would nick anything that isn't bolted down and don't care who gets hurt in the process.  There are many 'dangerous' countries, and many 'dangerous' places in 'safe' countries.  Thailand is, in the main 'safe' but there are many, many, many, acts of violent crime against Thais and Farangs on a daily basis as witnessed right here.

You are in Pattaya, anything goes in Pattaya and life in Pattaya isnt indicative of life in Thailand .

Its a sordid little cesspit which attracts like minded people

Why some British? See Rimmer's post above. I'm a Brit by the way, so I have no axe to grind here.

You're not the only one, I had a ladyboy theory too, in my naivety I didn't suspect they were both just pure scammers, and probably thieves too.

Jenny2017 really stupid to defer on this one! Makes you look silly. Love how you put Americans first lol. There are 5 pages of posts already and when this story first came out many ( mainly British ) posters tried to imply these two jerk/ scamming Brits were telling the truth and a lot Thai bashing ensued. On the other hand many other Brits called them out immediately ( good for your sleuths, really ) But not ONE single poster who said things like " why would they lie" or "this happens all the time in Thailand" has come on this thread to admit they were wrong!  Not one! They should be named and shamed along with the two scamming pig couple.

My favorite was the poster who called us 'clowns' and said we were all 'victim bashing'.

Spot on. Unfortunately true. Pattaya seems to attract all foreign, but also Thai scam artists in all forms. That includes the good looking girl who receives money to stop working in a bar, but she never does. Five foreigners then sending her money every month, does the trick.

Motorcycle gangs, mafia, drugs, guns, pedophiles and child porn, spiked drinks, aggressive lb who kick the shi..e out of “innocent” farangs, girls who tell their customers that buffaloes got sick, mom has cancer, brother an accident, school for seven kids has to be paid, plus many other stories, Pattaya is always good for anything that's illegal.

bs. i've been here a long time. mostly in bkk. i haven't heard many stories of muggings. practically unheard of. you got unlucky it seems but i can tell you that muggings in bkk are far less frequent than ldn or any other western city for example

which is understanable in my home town as they all know my family. but bkk. i've been wasted on so many occasions and in sois and areas i didn't know. not once did someone try to rob me. you were unlucky

And my post was in no way "American bashing." It just pointed out that other nationalities aren't that innocent.

That America came before Germany was just a coincidence.

My favourite was the one who told us that we wouldn't have respect for an older guy? Harrh.

A pity to believers and sympathizers of the first story. What a scam!

Fled the scene - and banned for life hopefully.

I do not think that they did anything legally to warrant a ban

The Thai Police have already stated they there are no charges to press and they havent broken any immigration laws

He has probably gone back to the UK for medical treatment, via Dubai .

I wonder what his neighbours will say to him ?

"Hello Mik , you are back from your holiday early, what happened ?"

"My Mrs went to the toilet , I disapeared and ended up falling off a balcony at some resort , broke my leg and got rushed to hospital , the Mrs then told a go fund me page that I had been kidnapped, robbed at gunpoint and attacked . The Thai Police then investigated after the story went viral , they found out that we were lying and we had to quickly come back home "

"Why didnt you just spend a month lying on the beach "

"Yeah, with hindsight, that would have been the better option"

"Anyway, happy birthday.............and hows your leg?"

I don't think they are stupid enough to find out what could happen if they return.

The Thai Police said the Couple  didnt make an official complaint to the Police .

I do not know of what was said, if anything between the two, but the RTP have stated that they hve no grounds to prosecute  them

They all left Thailand on the next available flight, this was the "final nail in the coffin" ,"its just not safe here anymore" , "its not like how it used to be" "These kind of things happen everyday , these days" , "its just not safe to walk the streets" "Thais everywhere with guns shooting felangs" , they all got on the next available flight to Dubai , probably on the same flight as Mik and his Mrs

Thanks for the laughs but they are still here. All bark and no bite. You forgot "dishonor the regiment " or some such......

Hi quality farangs everywhere of late

Quality doesn't come here. A quick look at types at Suvvanabumi and Don Mueng airports will quickly dispel any notions of quality. The rich don't come here. Your average Don Joe and Don Jane save wages to come here. Quality?  What a laugh.

Im interested to know your theory to explain this in a different way than the article says?

Just because you havent seen this in 17 years dont mean much.

Farangs is finding new ways everyday of being d*ckheads and getting in trouble in Thailand!

What we know:

He wasnt staying at the hotel

Does not say a staff was showing him the room

So what was he doing?

Trying to find a ladyboy who rip him off?

Some jealous Thai girlfriend throw him off the balcony and its a coverup?

the original story was that he was help up at gun point and mugged in a popular busy place in Phuket. that my point that i said theirs more to this story and did not believe it, AND GUESS WHAT , I WAS RIGHT.

Was wondering why this story sounded iffy....

There were far too many injuries for a mugging.

No, just the wrong type of injury for a typical mugging - all I can see is a broken leg!
