Police held a meeting on Wednesday night to analyse how thieves managed to open the reinforced door of an armoured vehicle and make off with two bags containing Bt6 million.

After the meeting at Bang Yai Police Station in Nonthaburi at 8.30pm, Pol Maj-General Suwat Jaengyodsuk, Provincial Police Bureau 1 acting commissioner, admitted that police were still in the dark how the thieves had managed to open the door of the Brinks vehicle.

He said investigators were still not sure whether two security officers with the company were involved in the heist.

The theft took place at 10pm outside the Central West Gate shopping mall in Nonthaburi’s Bang Yai district.

The truck was being driven by Somyos Kham-oon and guarded by security officer Namchai Jinoo.

The two parked the truck on the roadside to pick up a deposit from a True shop in the mall.

The men told police that when they returned to the truck, they found the door open although they had locked it. They also reported that two bags each containing Bt3 million had disappeared but 11 other bags were still in the truck.

Police checked the truck and did not see any signs of the door being forced open.

Suwat said footage from security cameras in the area showed a pickup driving near the armoured vehicle several times but did not reveal how the thieves opened the truck’s door.

Cops should check who at their base had access to the keys, and who quite possibly didn't turn up for work this morning. Bit surprising that the thieves didn't take the lot, but 6 million is not a bad days work I guess.

Cops here are quite easily baffled though.

Police are baffled, well what do you expect, distinct lack of brain cells is a major requirement for getting a police job.

Whilst they are scratching their heads someone should inform them it was an inside job.

Door locked, not forced, another set of keys, easy, now wait for security staff to disappear.

With a key ?,someone has made a copy and given it to a friend, who

just opened the door and buggered off with 2 bags of cash.

Really the security trucks here are a joke, pickup trucks with a canopy

on the back,or ordinary vans, big enough tin opener would do the job,

and only two guards, and both went to collect from the shop, leaving

the truck unattended, full of money!!! looks like everything done on the cheap.

I guess by mistake they left the doors unlocked and some one just took the chance and got away with 2 bags....

Yes, that is very likely. But only problem is to get the two THAI security officers admit the mistake.

Since that will never happen, I fully understand why the police are still scratching their heads. They have to find another way to explain this, so the guards do not lose face... LOL

A very difficult case this one :-)

The thieves took 2 bags each containing 3 million baht and 11 bags were left behind.

Did all 13 bags contain 3 million baht each? If not and the other bags contained less money how did the thieves know which 2 bags to take? Another possibility that they grabbed 2 bags at random, the 2 thieves each making their getaways on a motorbike and could only carry one bag each, which is more likely the case, van doors were left unlocked and was an opportunist theft.

They move the money in canvas bags here... back home they move the money in special security bags that give you just a few minutes from when you have removed the bag from it's rack in the truck to disarm the bag or the money is destructed!

I always though armoured trucks leave a guy in the cab at all times. But there again this is Thailand. And Brinx security is world wide and would think that in every country they would have the same US or UK standards and system, but probably have it all fully managed by Thai management, and 2 guards, if the rules are to leave one man in the cab would not work, one going for the money would prob say to his mate, come on let's have something to eat. But yes at least 2 guards should be together collecting and delivering cash bags. And no more than 2 bags at a time collecting or delivering.

Do it the cheap Thailand way, save money.
