Trump says North Korea's Kim insulted him by calling him 'old'

HANOI (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said in a tweet on Sunday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had insulted him by calling him "old" and said he would never call Kim "short and fat."

Trump made the comment after attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Vietnam.

In a series of tweets he also said Chinese President Xi Jinping was "upping sanctions" on North Korea in response to its nuclear and missile programs and that Xi wanted Pyongyang to "denuclearize."

During Trump's visit to Beijing last week Xi reiterated that China would strive for the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula but offered no hint it would change tack on North Korea, with which it fought side by side in the 1950-53 Korean war against U.S.-led forces.

One of Trump's tweets read: "Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me 'old,' when I would NEVER call him 'short and fat?' Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend - and maybe someday that will happen!"

Speaking later in Vietnam's capital, Hanoi, Trump said "it would be very, very nice" if he and Kim became friends.

"That might be a strange thing to happen but it's a possibility," he said.

INSULTS AND THREATS

Trump has traded insults and threats with Kim in the past amid escalating tension over Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile programs as North Korea races toward its goal of developing a nuclear-tipped missile capable of reaching the United States -something Trump has vowed to prevent.

North Korea conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear bomb test on Sept. 3, prompting another round of U.N. sanctions.

In September Kim described Trump as a “mentally deranged U.S. dotard" whom he would tame with fire. His comments came after Trump threatened in his maiden United Nations address to "totally destroy" the country of 26 million people if the United States were threatened.

After North Korea’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho addressed the U.N. General Assembly in September Trump tweeted: "Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won’t be around much longer!”

North Korea has conducted dozens of ballistic missile tests in defiance of U.N. sanctions. It has vowed to never give up its weapons programs, saying they are necessary to counter hostility from the United States and its allies.

The United States has said that all options, including military, are on the table, although its preference is for a diplomatic solution.

A pissing contest between two world leaders - wouldn't be more than just the butt of jokes.

But they each have their fat fingers (controlled by idiotic minds) on the launch buttons of thousands of missiles - which can incinerate millions of innocents.   Well, at least it would put a dent in overpopulation.

The US has stuffed up badly with this freak.....so unbelievably bad on the international stage!  The butt of jokes!

It's gotten to such a low point now, that every time Kim and Trump butt heads, Trump looks worse.

I'm currently reading a book about military blunders.  One recurrent theme:  A strong force, brimming with confidence goes against a weaker force and, because of blunderings by those in charge - the supposedly stronger force get whipped.   It's happened thousands of times throughout human history.

It could even happen re; N.Korea vs the US.

US could go in, balls exposed, thinking its superior weaponry would defeat the NK military in days.  N.Koreans hide out in hardened bunkers, and crawl out while the smoke is clearing.  A lot more would happen, of course, but the US should know:  NK doesn't have to win battles in order to win a war with the US.  It only needs to survive, after the US has dropped its load.

While doing so NK would only have to inflict a relatively small amount of damage to the US (sink one large carrier) to "humiliate" the US and "win" even bigger (on it's own, and neighbours, terms).

Hey Einstein, maybe you can explain what the point you're trying (and failing) to make is?

Statesmanship is out the window as world leaders devolve into cranky, petulant children.  Thank goodness that when they blow the rest of us to kingdom-come, they will all be packed into bunkers.  Bunkers packed with psychopaths and the mentally unstable, those bunkers will no doubt become akin to Dante's 10th circle of Hell, the one he'd never imagine during his lifetime.  The rest of us will get off easy.

Is tall and fat supposed to "trump" short and fat?

These two fools both can start a nuclear war.

Bizarre and tragic but the U.S. used to project itself as a responsible, rational player.

To add, trump has basically ruined the original word trump for all of history.

Trump and Kim are like two naughty kids standing outside the 2nd grade class door - after all their schoomates (the rest of the world) are sitting in class (ready to discuss issues).  The two kids are having the following hassle:

>>>  "You're dumb"

>>>  "Nuh uh, you're dumb."

>>>  "Am not"

>>>  "yes you are."

>>>  "No I'm not. You are."

>>>  "Nuh uh, you are, so there."

>>>   "I'm wood and you're glue. What you say bounces off me and sticks to you."

Well I guess that Kim is short compared to Trump and fairly fat compared to the 70 year old Trump.  But Trump is stupid and a moron and....... actually there is no point in going on and on as we all could.

The baby man is totally unfit in every way for the office of president, or president of a condo board for that matter, so being old in years isn't really the problem. Many older leaders are very competent, such as Governor Jerry Brown.

Yay Jerry Brown.  He's one cool cat and would have made a v. good prez.  He and I dated the same woman, waaaay back.   She was a single mom with 3 little kids.  I stepped aside, when I saw Jerry arriving 150 miles from Sacramento in an official helicopter - to see her.  There were other pretty women around at that time, so I wasn't hurting for choice.   Plus, he had more going on than I did.  I was a pot grower in a rural town of 245.   He was Gov of CA at the time (his 1st term).
