Phuket faces excessive garbage amount with at least 400 tons per day.

PHUKET: -- Related officials chaired by Phuket Governor Nirun Kalayanamit discussed measures to handle the excessive garbage issue which Phuket is facing. It is estimated that residents and tourists produce around 400 tons of waste per day with an increase of 30% during the tourist season.

The meeting concluded the resolution by adding one more burner for the present incinerator plant under the care of the Phuket City Office. This would increase the capacity of the incineration plant to handle a maximum of 500 tons from the current capacity of 250 tons per day. Phuket is the only province in Thailand which runs comprehensive incineration plant management.

400 Tons!!! Christ!

It would be interesting to get an analysis of the trash. In other words, what percent is plastic bags, what percent is plastic bottles, what percent is styrofoam, etc.

Building material scrap must make up a large portion. On my street alone, there are over a dozen new shop house complexes. Besides being extremely boring and ugly, they use up a lot of natural resources. Is the building ever going to end? Where's the water gonna come from to support this many more residents? Man, Phuket is rapidly turning into Bangkok.

I'm doing my little bit by not taking a plastic bag with every single item I purchase... the check out people sure do like stuffing things in plastic bags don't they. OK, end of surmon :o
